, Shri Hari:. [Bhaj] Nitai-Gaur Radheshyam [Chant] Harekrishna Hareram Six Goswamigans in Vrindavan of Mahaprabhu

Rudroadrim jaladhim harirdivisada duram vihayashrita: Even the mighty Bhagindras were first situated at the foot of the underworld I think she is absorbed in the lotus forest and dwells in the lotus for fear of seeking wealth In Kali-yuga only virtuous men are devoted to the upliftment of the poor.

The six goswamis of Mahaprabhu Chaitanya Dev are very famous. Their names are (1) Shrirup, (2) Shrisanatan, (3) Shri Jiva, (4) Shri Gopalbhatta, (5) Shri Raghunath Bhatta and (6) Shriraghunathdas ji. Readers must have read some details of these six in the previous episodes. Shrirup and Sanatan had gone from Puri to Vrindavan only after taking the permission of the Lord, but since then they did not return to Gaudesh. Shreejeev was the favorite son of his younger brother Anoop. The whole family became disinterested. It was a divine family. Jiva Goswami must have come to Vrindavan either after the disappearance of Mahaprabhu or shortly before the appearance of the Lord. The account of his meeting with the Lord is nowhere to be found. He went to Vrindavan only after taking the permission of Nityanand ji, this only indicates the absence of Mahaprabhu. Raghunath Bhatt was sent by the Lord himself from Puri. When Gopal Bhatt was young, Prabhu had spent Chaturmas traveling south to his home, after that he did not see Prabhu again. Raghunathdas ji came to Vrindavan after Lord’s pastimes and after Swarup Goswami’s departure to the other world and then he did not even put a foot anywhere leaving the holy land of Vrindavan. He spent the rest of his life living in Vraj. Let’s describe all of these very briefly separately further.

1- Srirup G Goswami

Readers have already got the introduction of Shri Roop ji and Sanatan ji. It is estimated that the birth of Shri Roop ji is said to be around Samvat 1545. He was only a year or two younger than his elder Shri Sanatan ji, but being the first to be blessed by the Lord, he is considered the elder brother of Sanatan ji in the Vaishnav society. The meeting of these two brothers with the Lord at Ramkeli, the meeting of the Lord with the Lord at Prayag, the darshan of the Lord at Puri, the creation of dramas, the news of God’s permission to return to Vrindavan after passing through the country of God So the readers must have read in the previous chapters, now listen to two or four incidents of his Vrindavan residence.

You used to reside near Brahmakund. One day you were doing bhajan without fasting, feeling hungry, but you didn’t want to leave the bhajan and go for alms, in the meantime a black cowherd boy came to him with milk in an earthen vessel and Said- ‘Take it Baba! Drink it Why are you doing hymns of the hungry, why don’t you go to the villages to beg.’

Roop ji drank that milk. It tasted better than nectar. Only then did they understand that ‘the dark-skinned boy is the same deceitful Vrindavan resident, he cannot see anyone hungry in his kingdom.’ No where did he go on his own. Hearing this news, Shri Sanatan ji came running and hugged him and said- ‘Brother! This Manmohan is very soft, don’t trouble him. You yourself beg for pieces from the houses of the residents of Vraj.’ From that day Shri Rupji Madhukari started going for alms daily. One day Shri Govinddev ji ordered him in a dream that ‘Brother! I am lying buried under the ground in a certain place. Every day a cow gives me milk from her breasts, you target that cow only and take me out and reveal my worship.

He got up early in the morning and reached the same place. There he saw – ‘A cow is standing there and the milk flowing from her udder itself is going down through a hole.’ Then his joy knew no bounds. At the same time they started digging that place. A lovely idol of Govind Dev ji came out of it, they started worshiping it. Later, Maharaj Mansingh ji of Jaipur got a grand and huge red stone temple of Govinddev ji built, which is increasing the glory of Shri Vrindavan. Due to the fear of Aurangzeb’s attack, the Maharaja of Jaipur had taken the Shrimurti here to his place from behind. Later, a new temple of ‘New Govinddev ji’ was built, in which along with Govinddev ji, the deities of Shri Chaitanya Dev and Shrinityanand ji were also installed from behind, which are still present.

When Shri Roop ji used to reside in Nand gram, then Shri Sanatan ji went to meet him at his place one day. Seeing his elder, he greeted him and gave him a beautiful seat to sit. Shri Roop ji started cooking food for his brother. He saw firsthand that Pyari ji was collecting all the food items, Sanatan ji was very upset by this. They sat silently watching. When the food was ready, Shri Roop ji offered it to God, God started eating directly with Pyari ji. He gave food to Shri Sanatan ji, who had left his leftover Mahaprasad. It had a divine taste more than nectar.

Sanatan ji said – ‘Brother! You are very fortunate, who get the prasad of your loved ones every day, but Sukumari Ladili ji must be having difficulty in collecting your belongings, I feel sad thinking this.’Shri Sanatan ji left after saying this. And the remaining Mahaprasad was eaten by Shri Roop ji with great interest and taste.

In some poem, Mr. Roop ji compared Pyari ji’s braid to a black snake. Sanatan ji felt very sad thinking that what is the use of poisonous black snake near Pyari ji’s Amritpurna Anan? He was engrossed in this worry that he saw Pyari ji swinging with her beloved on the Kadamba tree in front of him. There was a black snake-like wave on his head, there was no work of cruelty in him, there was no name of anger and poison. She was the most gentle, the one who defeated the hearts of the lovers and the fickle, very playful serpent who attracted the mind towards her. Shri Sanatan ji was very happy with this and Pyari ji automatically resolved his doubt by giving her rare darshans. In this way many stories are told of the greatness of his devotion and love. They always lived happily in the form of couple Madhuri. Alone, by mistake, by mistake, by wandering, he always used to wander in the forests of Vrindavipin. His food was the nectar of the beloved’s beauty, that’s all, he always remained happy in that item. He always kept on chanting while being engrossed in love and in the rest of the time he used to recite devotional books. Sixteen devotional texts made by him are available.

(1) Hansdoot, (2) Uddhavasandesha, (3) Krishnajanmatithividhi, (4) Ganoddeshadeepika (5) Stavamala, (6) Vidagdhamadhava, (7) Lalitamadhava, (8) Danlila, (9) Dankelikaumudi, (10) Bhaktirasaamritasindhu, ( 11) Ujjavalanilamani, (12) Mathuramahatmya (13) Akhyatchandrika, (14) Padyavali, (15) Natakachandrika and (16) Laghubhagavatamrita.

Staying in Vrindavan, he showed the real form of Shri Krishna-love. He was always engaged in chanting names and reading books. In the book titled ‘Journey to Vrindavan’, the date of his Vaikunthavas is written as Shravan Shukla Dwadashi of Samvat 1640 (AD 1563). In this way, by staying on this earth for almost 74 years, he kept shining the light of devotion.

3- Sanatan Goswami ji Shri Sanatan ji’s birth is estimated to be around Samvat 1544, the account of his imprisonment, coming to Prayag after being liberated from it, listening to the classical teachings while staying at the lotus feet of the Lord, going to Vrindavan, returning to Puri, coming back to Puri. Readers must have already read the story of getting itching, deciding to die under the chariot of Shri Jagannathji, going to Vrindavan by the order of the Lord and doing bhajans and reading books, now two or four incidents of Vrindavan related to these. Listen

One day this Shri Yamuna ji was going to take bath, he found a piece of Paras stone lying on the way. They covered him with dust right there. The same day a Brahmin came to him and started begging for money. He said a lot – ‘Brother! We are beggars, we eat pieces by begging, where do we have money, go to some rich Seth-moneylender.’ But he did not agree. He said – ‘Shri Maharaj! I worshiped Shiva for many years with the desire of wealth, that’s why Shiva was satisfied and said to me in the dream at night – ‘O Brahmin! The desire with which you worship me, that desire will be fulfilled when you go near Sanatan Goswami in Vrindavan. I have come to your shelter only because of his dream. On this Sanatan ji remembered that Paras stone. He said- ‘Good thing, Yamuna ji come with me. Saying this, he took him to the bank of Yamuna. He told him the place of Paras by pointing his finger from a distance. He searched a lot, but could not find Paras. Then he said- ‘Don’t deprive me, if you can, then find it yourself and give it.’

He said – ‘Brother! What is the matter of deprivation in this, I cannot touch it, you search with patience, you will find it here! Brahmin started searching, suddenly he found a piece of Paras. At the same time he tested it by touching it with a piece of iron, in no time the piece of iron turned into gold. The brahmin was happy and went to his home. He must have reached half way when his mind changed completely. He thought – ‘ Those great men who eat pieces from house to house and do not touch this gem which is considered so priceless in the world, surely they have something more than this extraordinary stone. I will get the same from him.

By giving this Paras, he misled me.’ Thinking this, he came back again and fell at his feet and narrated all his agony by crying. Seeing his true disinterest, he threw Paras in Yamuna ji and preached him the priceless name of Hari. Due to which he became a supreme saint in some time. Someone has rightly said-

In Paras, among other saints, saints give more respect. He turns iron into gold, this one turns into gold like you.

He used to go to a Chaubey’s house to do Madhukari in Mathura ji. That Chaubey’s wife was an ardent devotee and worshiper of Shrimadan Mohan Bhagwan. Shri Madanmohan Bhagwan used to sit in his house from childhood. Sanatan ji would have been very happy to have darshan of his idol, in fact he used to go there only to have darshan of Madanmohan ji. That Chaubin had a small child. Madan Mohan also remained a child. There was a lot of friendship between both of them. Madan Mohan remained an illiterate cowherd. What do these ethics and thoughts know? Used to eat in a vessel with that Chaubin’s boy. I was very surprised to see Sanatan ji that this Madanmohan government is very strange.

One day he went to buy honey. Chaubin started giving alms to them. He insisted – ‘Mother! If you want to give me something, then give the leftover food to this child.’ Chaubin accepted his request and gave him the same leftover food of Madan Mohan. That’s all, then what was there, they got a taste of the food that was attached to the tongue of that butter thief, they started going to take the same food every day.

One day in a dream, Madan Mohan ji said – ‘Brother! We feel bored in the city, you bring me to that Chaubin, I will stay in the jungle.’ Exactly the same night, Chaubin also had the same dream that you give me to Sanatan Sadhu. The next day he went and said – ‘Mother! Madan Mohan now wants to live in the forest, what is your wish?’

Chaubin said in a voice of anger mixed with love – ‘Sadhu Baba! I already know all these misdeeds of his. He doesn’t even know how to stay in one place, he is very ruthless, no one is his relative!

He used to say to me too – ‘I don’t feel like here.’ When you are not in love with me, then I am also not in love with you. Even if you go with the monk.’ Saying this with tears in his eyes, he made Madan Mohan join Sanatan ji. She was saying such things on the surface, but her heart was agonizing with the separation from her Madan Mohan. Sanatan ji came to the bank of Yamuna taking Madan Mohan along with him. Now for Madan Mohan’s stay, he built a thatched hut on a picturesque mound near Suryaghat and in that he started worshiping Madan Mohan ji. Now he used to bring a pinch of flour from house to house and make Madhukari of the same without salt and feed Madan Mohan.

One day Madan Mohan made a face and said – ‘Sadhu Baba! We can’t eat these balls without salt. Ask someone to bring some salt too.’

Sanatan ji got annoyed and said- ‘Don’t put this problem on me, if you want to eat, then eat like this, otherwise take your way home.’ Madan Mohan Sarkar laughed a bit and said- ‘Who would refuse a pebble of salt, by asking to bring it from somewhere.’ The next day he started bringing some salt along with the flour. Chatore Madan Mohan was fond of sweet butter and sugar candy, so one day he said very humbly – ‘Sadhu Baba! These dry tikkas do not go down our throat. It is better if you bring some ghee from somewhere.’ Now Sanatan ji has started narrating to Madan Mohan ji. He said- ‘Look! Listen my true words.

I have only these dry tikkas, if you had a chaat of ghee and sugar, you would have gone to a rich man’s place, but at my beggar’s place you would get only these dry tikkas. Whether it comes down your throat or not, I will not go to any rich man to ask for ghee. Get stuck with some Yamuna water. Even the soil used to get stuck.’ Poor Madanmohan became silent with a frown on his face. What else could they say to that loin clothed monk. The next day he saw a very wealthy businessman coming near him. He was doing bhajan while sitting, he prostrated at his feet from a distance and started saying in a very compassionate voice – ‘ Mahatma ji! My ship has got stuck in Yamuna ji, give such a blessing that it leaves, I have come in your shelter.’ He said – ‘Brother! I don’t know anything, tell the one who is sitting in this hut.’

The merchant prayed to Lord Madanmohan- ‘O God! If my ship leaves, I will serve you with half of the sale amount. In those days trade was done by boat through the rivers. Rails, wires and motors etc. were not there then. Mahajan’s goods were sold for double the price. At the same time, he got the temple of Madanmohan ji built with great generosity by spending thousands of rupees. And for the service of God, priests, cooks, servants and many other workers were kept. It is still present in the Vrindavan temple.

On hearing his fame, Emperor Akbar came to visit him and started praying to him for some service. When he did not agree even after a lot of persuasion, then he ordered to repair the corner of Yamuna ji’s torn ghat near his hut. At the same time, Akbar started seeing all the land there studded with priceless gems. Then he fell at his feet and started saying – ‘Lord! Forgive my crime, even my entire kingdom is not equal to the value of a jewel here.’ The same incident is said in relation to Shri Haridas Swami ji, both are correct. The pastimes of the devotees are limitless, they should be listened to with devotion. If you want to argue, read the philosophies.

He has also criticized the essence of devotion. His four books are famous: ( 1) Brihadbhagavatamrita (two volumes), (2) Haribhaktivilas, commentary and other exhibitions, (3) Vaishnavatoshini (commentary on the tenth Skanda), (4) Lilastava (tenth character).

At the age of seventy no. In 1615 (AD 1558), on the day of Ashadh Sudi Chaturdashi, it is said that he went to Golok. He was the ultimate Vinayi, Bhagwat and Bhagwat-Ras-Rasik Vaishnava.

3 – Mr. Jeevgoswami

The quietness of Shri Anup-Tanaya Swami Shrijiv was supreme. He remained celibate throughout his life. He didn’t even see women. When his father went to Vaikuntha and both his uncles became renunciates, he also followed his path and left everything and went to Sri Vrindavan, following the footsteps of his ancestors, in scripture-thinking and Shri Krishna-Kirtan. Started spending his time. He was a renowned scholar of his time. He had a lot of prestige in Vrajmandal. Leaving the holy land of Vraj inaccessible even to the deities, he did not go anywhere on anyone’s request. It is heard, once Emperor Akbar called him to Agra with great insistence and as per his orders, he made him sit in a horse-cart and took him to Vrindavan at night the same day. Listen to one or two incidents related to their relation-

It is heard that once a Digvijayi Pandit came to Vrindavan with the wish of Digvijayi. Shri Roop and Sanatan ji wrote a letter of victory to him without even discussing the scriptures. But Shri Jigoswami confronted him and left him only after defeating him. Hearing this news, Shrirup Goswami scolded him and even said – ‘The Vaishnava who does not know how to respect others is not a true Vaishnava. What do we have to do with victory and defeat? You clashed with him because of Jai’s wish, so don’t come in front of us. When Shri Sanatan ji heard this news, he came to Roop Goswami and asked – ‘Should Vaishnavas have compassion for living beings or Adya.’ Should be displayed.’ On hearing this, Sanatan ji indicated to Jeevgoswami ji to fall at his feet. Jivagoswami fell at his feet impatiently and remembering his crime started crying like a child. Shri Rupji’s heart was filled, he hugged him and forgave him for his crime.

It is heard that Mirabai, a great devotee, had also met him. In those days he lived in seclusion and women were not allowed to enter his ashram. When Mirabai expressed her desire to meet him and got the answer that he does not meet women, then Mirabaiji sent a message – ‘Vrindavan is the end of Banke Vihari. No one except the Gopikas can enter it. Where else did these new bandaged men of Vihari ji come from, they should search for some other place.’ This made him very happy and he met Meerabai ji with great love. He preached the path of devotion a lot like a qualified Acharya. Like his ancestors, he also made many books. Krishnadas Goswami has told the number of books of these three to be four lakhs. Here, the meaning of the book is from the Anushtup verse or a verse, not from the book. Everything created by Srirupa is said to be a Laksha Granth or Shloka. There can be so many verses in all the books. The following texts written by Shri Jivagoswami are found – Shri Bhagwat Shatsandarbha, Vaishnavatoshini, Laghutoshini and Gopalchampu. We did not know the exact date or Samvat of his Vaikunthavas from any scripture.

4 – Shri Raghunathdas Ji Goswami

Readers must have read the story of Shri Raghunathdas ji’s renunciation, homelessness and Puri residence. After the disappearance of Mahaprabhu and Sri Svarupa Goswami, he returned to Vrindavan very sad. His wish was that we should lose our lives by jumping from the Govardhan mountain, but on the persuasion of Shrirup-Sanatan etc., he abandoned the idea of renunciation. He always used to reside near Radhakund. It is said that he used to live only once in 24 hours by drinking a little whey. He always used to shout ‘Radhe-Radhe’ being engrossed in love. His birth is said to be 1416 Shakabd, he enjoyed his full age. In Jai Shakabd 1512, Shri Niwasacharya ji Gaud was coming to the country, then he is said to be alive. His renunciation and disinterest was wonderful and supernatural. Throughout his life, he never tasted food, did not wear beautiful clothes and did not enjoy any kind of worldly pleasure. For almost a hundred years, he kept purifying the atmosphere of this selfish world with his breath of renunciation. (1) Stavamala, (2) Stavavali and (3) Sridancharit – these three books are said to have been made by him. Who can have a renunciation life like him? So much sacrifice even after being the son of a prince! Das sir! We have millions of salutations at your holy feet. Lord! Communicate your power in the heart of this lustful adham.

5- Shri Raghunath Bhatt

We have already told that Shri Raghunath Bhatt, son of Tapan Mishra ji, after the death of his parents, stayed in the lotus feet of the Lord for eight months and started living in Vrindavan on their orders. He was a great scholar of Bhagwat, his voice was very soft. He used to tell the story of Shrimad Bhagwat in the meeting of Rupgoswami. His birth date is estimated to be 1425. For how many days he used to make Vrindavan spring for twelve months by chanting Shrimad Bhagwat from his cuckoo-kujit kamaniya kantha, the exact account of this is not available.

6-Shrigopal Bhatt

He was the son of Venkat Bhatt, a resident of Shrirang area and nephew of Shri Prakashanandji Saraswati. After the death of his father, he came to Vrindavan for his abode. When he was young in the journey to the South, then the Lord had spent four months of fourteen months at his house. After that he did not meet Mahaprabhu again. The news of his arrival was sent by Shri Roop Sanatan ji to the Lord, then the Lord sent a letter to these two brothers Roop and Sanatan to keep them with him with affection and consider them as their own brothers. Mahaprabhu had sent his seat and rope for him. He was overjoyed to receive these two Prabhupasadi priceless things. At the time of meditation, he used to do bhajan by holding the prasadi dori of the Lord on his head. His worshiper was Shri Radharaman ji.

It is heard that their worshiper was earlier in the form of Shaalgram, they used to serve and worship him, once a rich man came to Vrindavan. He provided beautiful clothes and ornaments for the Thakurs of all the temples. Brought them too and gave them many beautiful clothes and ornaments. Seeing the clothes and ornaments, he wished that if we too had the hands and feet of Thakur ji, we too would have made him wear these ornaments. So, all was set. God is subordinate to the devotee, He never does otherwise to the devotee’s wish. At the same time, hands and feet came out from the idol of Shaalgram and Lord Shri Radharaman became Murli Dhari Shyam. Bhattji’s happiness knew no bounds. He adorned the Lord with clothes and worshiped him with devotion. Shri Niwasacharya ji was his disciple. The priest of his temple Shri Gopalnathdas ji was also his disciple. After his death Shri Gopalnathdas ji became the owner of that throne. Shri Gopinathdas, the disciple of Shri Gopalnathdas, made his younger brother Damodardas a disciple and asked him to marry him. The present Goswamigan of Shri Radharaman ji are the descendants of this Shri Damodar ji. The same graceful idol of Shri Radharaman ji in Vrindavan wearing its wonderful and supernatural influence is proclaiming the power and oneness of its beloved devotee Shri Gopal Bhatt. What can’t a devotee of God do?

Sri Krishna! Govind! Hare! Murare! O Lord! Narayana! Vasudeva!
