Kagbhushundi, who appeared in the form of a crow, was a great devotee of Lord Shri Ram. He had a boon that he could go out of time. That is, what happened in the past and what will happen in the future, they all could see. He could see the cycle of time becoming deteriorating.

That’s why he had seen Mahabharata 11 times and Ramayana 16 times, that too before Valmiki ji wrote Ramayana and Ved Vyas ji wrote mahabharat… because he was a crow in his previous birth. First of all, Ram Katha was narrated by Lord Shankar to Mother Parvati. Then he too listened. After his death, he was born in a Shudra family in Ayodhyapuri. He was a supreme Shiva devotee but used to ridicule other gods because of pride. Angered by this, sage Lomash had cursed him, due to which he had become a crow again. After this he lived his whole life as a crow.

When Ravana’s son Meghnath tied Lord Shri Ram to Nagpasha while fighting with Shri Ram, then at the behest of Devarshi Narada, Giddharaj Garuda freed Lord Shri Ram from the bondage of Nagpasha by eating all the serpents of Nagpasha. When Lord Shri Ram was tied in this way, Garuda got suspicious that Shri Ram was God. To clear Garuda’s doubts, Devarshi Narada sends him to Brahmaji. Brahmaji sends them to Shankarji. Lord Shankar also sent Garuda to Kagbhushundi ji to clear his doubts. In the end Kagbhushundi was done.

That is why Sanatani Hindus feed Kagbhushundi ji in the form of a crow in the Shraddha Paksha. So that that food can reach our ancestors.

Today the irony is that some of our Sanatani brothers also make fun of these things without reading, without knowing them… whereas there is nothing without reason in Sanatan Dharma.
