दरिद्रता और ऋण के भार से दु:खी व संसार की पीड़ा से व्यथित मनुष्यों के लिए प्रदोष पूजा व व्रत पार लगाने वाली नौका के समान है। स्कन्दपुराण के अनुसार जो लोग प्रदोष काल में भक्तिपूर्वक भगवान शिव की पूजा करते हैं, उन्हें धन-धान्य, स्त्री-पुत्र व सुख-सौभाग्य की प्राप्ति और उनकी हर प्रकार की उन्नति होती है।
एक बार एक अत्यन्त गरीब ब्राह्मणी अपने पुत्र को लेकर शाडिल्य मुनि के पास गयी और अपनी दरिद्रता दूर करने का उपाय पूछने लगी। शाडिल्य मुनि ने ब्राह्मणी से कहा- ‘प्रदोषकाल में भगवान शिव की पूजा करने से इसी जन्म में मनुष्य धन-धान्य, कुल व सम्पत्ति से सम्पन्न हो जाता है। तुम्हारा पुत्र पूर्व-जन्म में ब्राह्मण था। इसने अपना सारा जीवन दान लेने में बिताया, इस कारण इस जन्म में इसे दारिद्रय मिला। इस दोष को दूर करने के लिए अब इसे भगवान शंकर की शरण में जाना चाहिए।
दोनों पक्षों की त्रयोदशी को निराहार रहकर यह व्रत करे। प्रदोषकाल में भगवान शिव का पूजन आरम्भ करे। फिर हाथ जोड़कर मन-ही-मन उनका आह्वान करे- ‘हे भगवन् ! आप ऋण, पातक, दुर्भाग्य, व दरिद्रता आदि के नाश के लिए मुझ पर प्रसन्न हों।’
फिर दरिद्रतानाशक व सम्पत्तिदायक भगवान शिव के प्रदोष स्तोत्र का पाठ करते हुए प्रार्थना करें-
जय देव जगन्नाथ जय शंकर शाश्वत।
जय सर्वसुराध्यक्ष जय सर्वसुरार्चित।।१।।
हे देव जगन्नाथ (समस्त जगत के स्वामिन्) ! हे देव ! आपकी जय हो । हे सनातन शंकर (सर्वदा कल्याण करने वाले) ! आपकी जय हो। हे सर्वसुराध्यक्ष (समस्त देवताओं के अध्यक्ष) ! आपकी जय हो तथा हे सर्वसुरार्चित (समस्त देवताओं द्वारा पूजित) ! आपकी जय हो।
जय सर्वगुणातीत जय सर्ववरप्रद।
जय नित्यनिराधार जय विश्वम्भराव्यय।।२।।
हे सर्वगुणातीत (सभी गुणों से अतीत) ! आपकी जय हो। हे सर्ववरप्रद (सबको वर प्रदान करने वाले) ! आपकी जय हो। नित्य, आधाररहित, अविनाशी विश्वम्भर ! आपकी जय हो।
जय विश्वैकवन्द्येश जय नागेन्द्रभूषण।
जय गौरीपते शम्भो जय चन्द्रार्धशेखर।।३।।
हे विश्वैकवन्द्येश (समस्त विश्व के एकमात्र वन्दनीय परमात्मन्) ! आपकी जय हो। हे नागेन्द्रभूषण (नागेन्द्र को आभूषण के रूप में धारण करने वाले) ! आपकी जय हो। हे गौरीपते ! आपकी जय हो। हे चन्द्रार्धशेखर (अपने मस्तक पर अर्धचन्द्र को धारण करने वाले) शम्भो ! आपकी जय हो।
जय कोट्यर्कसंकाश जयानन्तगुणाश्रय।
जय भद्र विरुपाक्ष जयाचिन्त्य निरंजन।।४।।
हे कोटि सूर्यों के समान तेजस्वी शिव ! आपकी जय हो। अनन्त गुणों के आश्रय परमात्मन् ! आपकी जय हो। हे विरुपाक्ष (तीन नेत्रों वाले कल्याणकारी शिव) ! आपकी जय हो । हे अचिन्त्य ! हे निरंजन ! आपकी जय हो।
जय नाथ कृपासिन्धो जय भक्तार्तिभंजन।
जय दुस्तरसंसारसागरोत्तारण प्रभो।।५।।
हे नाथ ! आपकी जय हो। भक्तों की पीड़ा का नाश करने वाले कृपासिन्धो ! आपकी जय हो। हे दुस्तर संसार-सागर से पार उतारने वाले परमेश्वर ! आपकी जय हो।
प्रसीद मे महादेव संसारार्तस्य खिद्यत:।
सर्वपापक्षयं कृत्वा रक्ष मां परमेश्वर।।६।।
हे महादेव ! मैं संसार के दु:खों से पीड़ित एवं खिन्न हूँ, मुझ पर प्रसन्न होइए। हे परमेश्वर ! मेरे सारे पापों का नाश करके मेरी रक्षा कीजिए।
महादारिद्रयमग्नस्य महापापहतस्य च।
महाशोकनिविष्टस्य महारोगातुरस्य च।।७।।
हे शंकर ! मैं घोर दारिद्रय के समुद्र में डूबा हुआ हूँ। बड़े-बड़े पापों से आहत हूँ, अनन्त चिन्ताएं मुझे घेरी हुई हैं, भयंकर रोगों से मैं दु:खी हूँ।
ऋणभारपरीतस्य दह्यमानस्य कर्मभि:।
ग्रहै: प्रपीड्यमानस्य प्रसीद मम शंकर।।८।।
सब ओर से ऋण के भार से लदा हुआ हूँ। पापकर्मों की आग में जल रहा हूँ और ग्रहों से अत्यन्त पीड़ित हो रहा हूँ। हे शंकर मुझ पर प्रसन्न होइये।
स्तोत्र पाठ का फल-
दरिद्र: प्रार्थयेद् देवं प्रदोषे गिरिजापतिम्।
अर्थाढ्यो वाऽथ राजा वा प्रार्थयेद् देवमीश्वरम्।।९।।
दीर्घमायु: सदारोग्यं कोशवृद्धिर्बलोन्नति:।
ममस्तु नित्यमानन्द: प्रसादात्तव शंकर।।१०।।
यदि दरिद्र व्यक्ति प्रदोषकाल में भगवान गिरिजापति की प्रार्थना करता है तो वह धनी हो जाता है और यदि राजा प्रदोषकाल में भगवान शंकर की प्रार्थना करता है तो उसे दीर्घायु की प्राप्ति होती है, वह सदा निरोगी रहता है। उसके कोश की वृद्धि व सेना की अभिवृद्धि होती है। हे शंकर ! आपकी कृपा से मुझे भी नित्य आनन्द की प्राप्ति हो।
शत्रव: संक्षयं यान्तु प्रसीदन्तु मम प्रजा:।
नश्यन्तु दस्यवो राष्ट्रे जना: सन्तु निरापद:।।११।।
मेरे शत्रु क्षीणता को प्राप्त हों तथा मेरी प्रजाएं सदा प्रसन्न रहें। चोर-डाकू नष्ट हो जाएं। राज्य में सारे लोग आपत्तिरहित हो जाएं।
दुर्भिक्षमारिसंतापा: शमं यान्तु महीतले।
सर्वसस्यसमृद्धिश्च भूयात् सुखमया दिश:।।१२।।
पृथ्वी पर दुर्भिक्ष, महामारी आदि का संताप (प्रकोप) शान्त हो जाए। सभी प्रकार की फसलों की वृद्धि हो। दिशाएं सुखमयी बन जाएं।
एवमाराधयेद् देवं पूजान्ते गिरिजापतिम्।
ब्राह्मणान् भोजयेत् पश्चाद् दक्षिणाभिश्च पूजयेत्।।१३।।
इस प्रकार गिरिजापति की आराधना करनी चाहिए। आराधना के अंत में ब्राह्मणों को भोजन कराना चाहिए। इसके बाद दक्षिणा आदि देकर उनका पूजन करना चाहिए।
सर्वपापक्षयकरी सर्वरोगनिवारिणी।
शिवपूजा मयाख्याता सर्वाभीष्टफलप्रदा।।१४।।
भगवान शिव की पूजा सब पापों का नाश करने वाली, सब रोगों को दूर करने वाली और समस्त अभीष्ट फलों को देने वाली है।
यदि व्रत-पूजन आदि का कोई विधि-विधान न बन सके तो श्रद्धाविश्वासपूर्वक केवल प्रतिदिन इस स्तोत्र का पाठ ही करें तो मनुष्य की जन्म-जन्मातर की दरिद्रता दूर हो जाती है। भगवान शिव सब पर अपनी कृपादृष्टि बनाए रखें।

Pradosh Puja and fasting are like a boat to cross for people who are saddened by the burden of poverty and debt and distressed by the pain of the world. According to Skandpuran, those who worship Lord Shiva with devotion during the Pradosh period, they get wealth-grains, women-sons and happiness-good fortune and they get all kinds of progress.
Once a very poor Brahmin went to Shadilya Muni with her son and started asking the way to remove her poverty. Shadilya Muni said to the Brahmin- ‘By worshiping Lord Shiva in Pradoshkal, a man becomes rich in wealth, family and property in this very birth. Your son was a Brahmin in his previous birth. He spent his whole life in taking charity, due to which he got poverty in this birth. To remove this defect, now it should go to the shelter of Lord Shankar.
Do this fast on the Trayodashi of both the sides without any food. Start worshiping Lord Shiva in Pradosh Kaal. Then, with folded hands, invoke Him in your heart – ‘O God! May you be pleased with me for the destruction of debt, sinfulness, misfortune, and poverty etc.
Then pray while reciting the Pradosh Stotra of Lord Shiva, the destroyer of poverty and the giver of wealth-
Jai Dev Jagannath Jai Shankar Shashwat. Hail Sarvasuradhyaksha, Hail Sarvasuraarchit.
O Dev Jagannath (Lord of the whole world)! Hey, God ! Hail thee . Oh Sanatan Shankar (the one who always does welfare)! Hail thee. O Sarvasuradhyaksha (Presiding deity of all the deities)! Glory be to you and O Sarvasuraarchita (worshipped by all the gods)! Hail thee.
Jai Sarvagunaatit Jai Sarvavarprada. Jai Nityaniradhara Jai Visvambharavyaya.
O Sarvagunateet (beyond all qualities)! Hail thee. Hey Sarvavarprad (the one who gives blessings to all)! Hail thee. Eternal, baseless, indestructible universe! Hail thee.
Jai Visvaikavandyesh Jai Nagendrabhushan. Jai Gauripate Shambho Jai Chandrardhashekhar.
O Vishvaikvandyesh (the only worshipable God of the whole world)! Hail thee. O Nagendrabhushan (one who wears Nagendra as an ornament)! Hail thee. Hey Gauripate! Hail thee. O Chandrardhashekhar (the one who wears the half-moon on his head) Shambho! Hail thee.
Hail Kotyarksankash Jayanantgunashray. Jai Bhadra Virupaksha Jayachintya Niranjan..4.
Oh Shiva, as bright as crores of suns! Hail thee. God the shelter of infinite qualities! Hail thee. O Virupaksha (the benevolent Shiva with three eyes)! Hail thee . Hey Achintya! Hey Niranjan! Hail thee.
Jai Nath Kripasindha Jai Bhaktaartibhajan. Jai, Lord, lifting the ocean of difficult worlds.
Hey Nath! Hail thee. Kripasindho, who destroys the suffering of the devotees! Hail thee. O God who can cross the world-ocean! Hail thee.
O Mahadeva have mercy on me who am suffering from this world O Lord, destroy all my sins and protect me.
Hey Mahadev! I am suffering and sad due to the sorrows of the world, be happy with me. O God! Protect me by destroying all my sins.
He was drowned in great poverty and defeated by great sins He was in great grief and afflicted with great disease.
Hey Shankar! I am drowned in the sea of extreme poverty. I am hurt by great sins, I am surrounded by eternal worries, I am saddened by terrible diseases.
Burdened with debt and burning with actions. O Lord Shiva, have mercy on me who am tormented by the planets.
I am burdened with debt from all sides. I am burning in the fire of sinful deeds and suffering a lot from the planets. O Shankar, be pleased with me.
Fruit of reciting the stotra- A poor man should pray to the god Girijapati at dawn. Whether he is rich in wealth or a king he should pray to the Lord.
Long life, good health, increase in cells and increase in strength. May I have eternal bliss by Your grace, O Lord Shiva.
If a poor person prays to Lord Girijapati during Pradosh Kaal, he becomes rich and if a king prays to Lord Shankar during Pradosh Kaal, he gets long life, he remains healthy forever. His treasury increases and army increases. Hey Shankar! May I also get eternal joy by your grace.
May my enemies be destroyed and may my people be pleased May the thieves be destroyed and may the people be safe in the kingdom.
May my enemies be afflicted and may my subjects be always happy. May the thieves and dacoits perish. All the people in the state should become free from objection.
May the tribulations of famine and pestilence be at peace on earth May all crops be prosperous and may the directions be happy.
May the anger (outbreak) of famine, epidemic etc. on the earth subside. May all types of crops grow. May the directions become happy.
Thus one should worship the Lord of the mountains at the end of the worship. One should feed the brahmins and afterwards worship them with alms.
This is how Girijapati should be worshipped. Brahmins should be fed at the end of worship. After this they should be worshiped by giving Dakshina etc.
It destroys all sins and prevents all diseases. I have described the worship of Lord Shiva as the bestower of all desired fruits.
Worship of Lord Shiva is the destroyer of all sins, the remover of all diseases and the giver of all desired fruits.
If there is no law and order for fasting and worship etc., then only recite this stotra daily with faith and faith, then the poverty of man after many births goes away. May Lord Shiva keep his blessings on everyone.
