मीरा का मान

मीरा का मान रखने के लिये स्वयं श्री कृष्ण ने स्त्री रूप धारण किया।

राणा सांगा के पुत्र और अपने पति राजा भोजराज की मृत्यु के बाद जब सम्बन्धियों के मीराबाई पर अत्याचार अपने चरम पर जा पहुँचे तो मीराबाई मेवाड़ को छोड़कर तीर्थ को निकल गई। घूमते-घूमते वे वृन्दावन धाम जा पहुँची।

जीव गोस्वामी वृन्दावन में वैष्णव-सम्प्रदाय के मुखिया थे। मीरा जीव गोस्वामी के दर्शन करना चाहती थीं, लेकिन उन्होंने मीराबाई से मिलने से मना कर दिया। उन्होंने मीरा को सन्देशा भिजवाया कि वह किसी औरत को अपने सामने आने की इजाजत नहीं देंगे। मीराबाई ने इसके जवाब में अपना सन्देश भिजवाया कि ‘वृन्दावन में हर कोई औरत है। अगर यहाँ कोई पुरुष है तो केवल गिरिधर गोपाल। आज मुझे पता चला कि वृन्दावन में कृष्ण के अलावा यहाँ कोई और भी पुरुष है।

जीव गोस्वामी ने सुबह जब भगवान कृष्ण के मन्दिर के पट खोले तो हैरत से उनकी आँखें फटी रह गई, सामने विराजमान भगवान कृष्ण की मूर्ति घाघरा चोली पहने हुये थी, कानों में कुण्डल, नाक में नथनी, पैरों में पाजेब, हाथों में चूड़ियाँ मतलब वे औरत के सम्पूर्ण स्वरूप को धारण किये हुये थे।

जीव गोस्वामी ने मन्दिर सेवक को आवाज लगाई–‘किसने किया ये सब ?’

सेवक बोले–‘कृष्ण की सौगन्ध पुजारी जी मन्दिर में आपके जाने के बाद किसी का प्रवेश नही हुआ ये पट आपने ही बन्द किये और आपने ही खोले। जीव गोस्वामी अचंभित थे, सेवक बोला–‘कुछ कहूँ पुजारी जी ?’ वे खोए-खोए से बोले–‘हाँ बोलो।’

सेवक बोला–पास ही धर्मशाला में एक महिला आई हुई हैं जिसने कल आपसे मिलने की इच्छा जताई थी, आप तो किसी महिला से मिलते नहीं इसलिये आपने उनसे मिलने से मना कर दिया, परन्तु लोग कहते हैं कि वो कोई साधारण महिला नही उनके एकतारे में बड़ा जादू हैं कहते हैं वो जब भजन गाती हैं तो हर कोई अपनी सुधबुध बिसरा जाता हैं, कृष्ण भक्ति में लीन जब वो नाचती हैं तो स्वयं कृष्ण का स्वरूप जान पड़ती हैं, आपने उनसे मिलने से इंकार किया कही ऐसा तो नही भगवान जी आपको कोई सन्देश देना चाहते हो ?’

जीव गोस्वामी तुरन्त समझ गए कि उनसे बहुत बड़ी भूल हो गई हैं, मीराबाई कोई साधारण महिला नही अपितु कोई परम कृष्णभक्त हैं। वे सेवक से बोले–‘भक्त मुझे तुरन्त उनसे मिलना हैं चलो कहाँ ठहरी हैं वो मैं स्वयं उनके पास जाऊँगा।’

जीव गोस्वामी मीरा जी के सामने नतमस्तक हो गये और भरे कण्ठ से बोले–‘मुझ अज्ञानी को आज आपने भक्ति का सही स्वरूप दिखाया हैं देवी इसके लिये मैं सदैव आपका आभारी रहूँगा। आईये चलकर स्वयं अपनी भक्ति की शक्ति देखिये।’ मीराबाई केवल मुस्कुराई और कृष्ण-कृष्ण करती उनके पीछे हो चली।

मन्दिर पहुँचकर जीव गौसाई एक बार फिर अचंभित हुये कृष्ण भगवान वापस अपने स्वरूप में लौट आये थे, पर एक अचम्भा और भी था उन्हें कभी कृष्ण की मूर्ति में मीराबाई दिखाई पड़ती तो कभी मीराबाई में कृष्ण।

Meera’s honor

To honor Meera, Shri Krishna himself took the form of a woman.

After the death of Rana Sanga’s son and her husband Raja Bhojraj, when the oppression of Mirabai by her relatives reached its peak, Mirabai left Mewar and went on pilgrimage. While roaming around she reached Vrindavan Dham.

Jiva Goswami was the head of the Vaishnav sect in Vrindavan. Meera wanted to see Jiva Goswami, but he refused to meet Mirabai. He sent a message to Meera that he would not allow any woman to come in front of him. In response, Mirabai sent her message that ‘Everyone in Vrindavan is a woman. If there is any man here then only Giridhar Gopal. Today I came to know that apart from Krishna, there is another man in Vrindavan.

When Jeeva Goswami opened the doors of Lord Krishna’s temple in the morning, his eyes widened with surprise. The idol of Lord Krishna seated in front was wearing a ghagra and blouse, earrings in his ears, nose ring in his nose, anklets on his feet and bangles in his hands, meaning he was wearing the complete form of a woman.

Jeeva Goswami called out to the temple servant – ‘Who did all this?’

The servant said – ‘I swear by Krishna, priest, after you entered the temple, no one entered the temple, it was you who closed and opened the doors. Jeeva Goswami was surprised, the servant said – ‘Should I say something, priest?’ He said softly – ‘Yes, say.’

The servant said – A woman has come to the nearby Dharamshala who had expressed her desire to meet you yesterday. You do not meet any woman, that is why you refused to meet her, but people say that she is not an ordinary woman, there is great magic in her beauty. They say that when she sings bhajans, everyone forgets their mind. When she dances, engrossed in devotion to Krishna, she appears to be the form of Krishna himself. Did you refuse to meet her? Did you say so? God ji has no message for you. Want to give?’

Jeeva Goswami immediately understood that he had made a big mistake, Meerabai was not an ordinary woman but a great devotee of Krishna. He said to the servant – ‘Devotee, I want to meet her immediately, let’s go to where she is staying, I will personally go to her.’

Jeeva Goswami bowed before Meera ji and said with a deep voice – ‘Today you have shown me the true form of devotion to the ignorant Devi, for this I will always be grateful to you. Come, come and see the power of your devotion yourself.’ Mirabai just smiled and followed him chanting ‘Krishna-Krishna’.

After reaching the temple, Jeev Gausai was once again astonished that Lord Krishna had returned to his form, but there was one more surprise. Sometimes he saw Meerabai in the idol of Krishna and sometimes Krishna in Meerabai.
