गुरुनानक देव जी ने कहा: मैं तो अपने विशाल जगन्नाथ जी की आरती में प्रत्येक क्षण सम्मिलित रहता हूँ। उसकी आरती कभी समाप्त नहीं होती तथा वह निरंन्तर चलती ही रहती है। यह सुनकर पुजारी पूछने लगे: वह आरती कहाँ हो रही है हमें भी दिखाएँ। इसके उत्तर में गुरुदेव जी ने कहा: गगन रूपी थाल में सूर्य और चद्रमाँ रूपी दीपक जल रहे हैं। गगन के सितारे उस थाल में जड़े हुए मोती हैं। मलयानिल धूप बती का कार्य कर रहा है और पवन विराट-स्वरूप भगवान के सिर पर चँवर झुला रहा है। इस सँदर्भ में आप जी ने बाणी उच्चारण प्रारम्भ कर दी: ॥४॥ राग धनासरी, अंग 663 पूरी वनस्पति भगवान के अर्पित फूल हैं। उसकी आरती तो स्वयँ प्रकृति ही कर रही है ! अनहद शंख नाद किया जा रहा है। इस विराट् रूप, में आपके हजारों नयन है। परन्तु निर्गुण स्वरूप में आपकी एक भी मूर्ति नहीं है। विराट स्वरूप भगवान के हजारों पवित्र चरण है परन्तु निर्गुण पारब्रह्म का एक भी पैर नहीं है। निर्गुण स्वरूप में हे प्रभु ! आप बिना नाक के हैं परन्तु इस विराट स्वरूप में आपके हजारों नाक है। आपकी यह लीला देखकर, मैं कर्त्तव्य विमूढ़ हो गया हूँ। हे जीव ! सब जीवो में उसी ज्योति-स्वरूप-परमात्मा की ज्योति है और उसी ज्योति के कारण सबको प्रकाश की प्राप्ति होती है। गुरू की कृपा से ही उस ज्योति का अनुभव होता है। जो जीव उस परमात्मा को भाता है उसकी आरती स्वीकार की जाती है। हरि के चरण कमलों का आनन्द-रस प्राप्त करने के लिए मेरा मन तड़पता है और दिन-रात मुझे प्रभु दर्शन की प्यास रहती है। हे प्रभु ! मुझ प्यासे पपीहे को अपनी कृपा की स्वांति बूँद देने का कष्ट करें। इससे मेरे मन में आपके पवित्र नाम-रूपी अमृत का निवास होगा। इस व्याख्या को सुनकर राजा प्रताप रूद्रपुरी बहुत प्रसन्न हुआ। अतः उसने गुरुदेव से दीक्षा की याचना करने का मन बनाया। तब गुरुदेव ने वहाँ हजारो भक्तो के साथ राजा प्रताप रूद्रपुरी को भी दीक्षा देकर कृतार्थ किया।
Guru Nanak Dev ji said: I am involved in the aarti of my huge Jagannath ji every moment. Her aarti never ends and she continues continuously. Hearing this, the priest started asking: Show us where the aarti is taking place. In response to this, Gurudev ji said: In the plate of the sky, the lamp of the sun and the moon are burning. The stars of the sky are pearls embedded in that plate. Malayanil is doing the work of incense sticks and the wind is swinging the moon over the head of the Virat-swaroop God. In this context, you started chanting Bani: 4॥ Raga Dhanasari, Ang 663 The whole vegetation is the flowers offered to the Lord. Nature itself is doing her aarti. Anahad conch shell is being sounded. In this vast form, you have thousands of eyes. But there is not a single idol of you in the form of Nirguna. The Viraat Swaroop God has thousands of holy feet, but the Nirguna Parabrahman does not have a single leg. O Lord in the formless form! You are without nose but in this vast form you have thousands of noses. Seeing this Leela of yours, I have lost my duty. O creature! All living beings have the same Jyoti-Swaroop – the light of the Supreme Soul and due to that light everyone gets light. That light is experienced only by the grace of the Guru. The aarti of the creature which is pleasing to that God is accepted. My heart yearns to get the pleasure and juice of the lotus feet of Hari, and day and night I am thirsty for the sight of the Lord. Oh God ! Please give me the trouble of giving the thirsty papa the freedom of your grace. By this the nectar of your holy name will reside in my mind. Hearing this interpretation, King Pratap Rudrapuri was very pleased. So he made up his mind to solicit initiation from Gurudev. Then Gurudev along with thousands of devotees also blessed King Pratap Rudrapuri by giving initiation.
