सुख भोगे जो कथा सुने विश्वास
सोलवा अध्याय लिखे यह दास
राजा पृथु ने कहा:-
हे नारद जी ! यह तो आपने महाप्रभु शंकर की बड़ी अद्भुत कथा सुनाई है।
अतः कृपा करके आप यह भी बतलाइये कि उस समय राहू उस पुरुष से छूट कर कहाँ गया?
नारदजी ने कहा:-
उससे छूटने पर वह बर्बर नाम से विख्यात हो गया और मानो नया जन्म पाकर उसने अपने आप को धन्य माना तथा वह धीरे-धीरे जलन्धर के पास गया। वहाँ उसने शंकर जी की चेष्टा कही।
उसे सुनकर दैत्यराज को बड़ा क्रोध आया और उसने सब दैत्यराज को बड़ा क्रोध आया और उसने सब दैत्यों को सेना सजाने की आज्ञा दी।
कालनेमी और शुम्भ निशुम्भ आदि सभी महाबली दैत्य तैयार होने लगे।
एक से एक महाबली दैत्य करोड़ों की संख्या में निकल कर युद्ध के लिये तैयार हो गये। महाप्रतापी सिंधु पुत्र शिवजी से युद्ध के लिये निकला।
उसके आगे महर्षि शुक्राचार्य और छिन्न सिर राहू हुआ। फिर तो उसी समय जलन्धर का मुकुट खिसक कर धरती पर पड़ा। आकाश में मेघ छा गये और बड़े अपशकुन हुए।
उधर इन्द्र आदि सब देवताओं ने एकत्र हो कैलाश पर जाकर शिवजी से जब वृत्तान्त कहा और यह भी कहा कि-
आप ने जलन्धर से युद्ध करने के लिये जो भगवान विष्णु को भेजा था वह उसके वशवर्ती हो गये हैं तथा लक्ष्मी सहित जलन्धर के अधीन होकर उसके घर में निवास करते हैं।
अब देवताओं को भी उसके यहाँ निवास करना पड़ रहा है। अब वह सागर पुत्र आपसे युद्ध करने को आ रहा है।
अतः आप उसे मार कर हमारी रक्षा करो।देवताओं से यह सब कुछ सुन शंकर जी ने भगवान विष्णु से पूछा- हे ऋषिकेश !
युद्ध में आपने जलन्धर का संहार क्यों नहीं किया और बैकुण्ठ को छोड़कर आप उसके घर कैसे चले गये?
तब भगवान विष्णु ने हाथ जोड़कर शिवजी से कहा-उसे आपका अंशी या लक्ष्मीजी का भाई होने के कारण नहीं मारा है, वह बड़ा ही वीर व देवताओं से अजेय है।
मैं सत्य कहता हूँ कि उसे कोई भी नहीं मार सकता। इस पर लक्ष्मी ने मुग्ध होकर, मैंने स्वयं उसके घर में रहने का वर दे दिया है इसीलिए मैं उसके घर में रहता हूँ।
हे सुरवर्य विष्णु ! आप यह क्या कहते हैं? उस दैत्य जलन्धर को मैं अवश्य मारूंगा इसमें कुछ भी सन्देह नहीं है।
अब आप सब देवता जलन्धर को मेरे द्वारा ही मरा जान अपने स्थान को जाइये।
जब शंकर ने ऐसा कहा तो सब देवता सन्देह रहित होकर अपने स्थान को चले गये ठीक उसी “समय पराक्रमी जलन्धर अपनो विशाल सेना के साथ कैलाश पर्वत को घेर के सिंहनाद करने लगा।
दैत्यों के नाद और कोलाहल से शिवजी क्रुद्ध हो गये। उन्होंने अपने नन्दी आदि गणों को उसके साथ युद्ध करने की आज्ञा दे दी।
कैलाश पर्वत के पास भीषण युद्ध होने लगा, दैत्यों ने अनेक प्रकार के अस्त्र-शस्त्र वर्षाने शुरू किये।
भेरी मृदंग, शंख और तीरों तथा हाथी, घोड़ों व रथों के शब्द से धरती कांपने लगी। युद्ध में कटकर मरे हुए हाथी, घोड़े और पैदलों का पहाड़ सा लग गया।
जिससे कि युद्धभूमि और भी आगमय हो गई दैत्यों के आचार्य श्रीशुक्राचार्य अपनी मृतसंजीवनी विद्या से सब दैत्यों को जिलाने लगे।
यह देखकर शिवजी के गण व्याकुल हो गये और उनके पास जाकर सारा वृत्तांत सुनाया
उसे सुनकर भगवान रुद्र के क्रोध की सीमा न रही। वह अपने भयंकर रूप से दिशाओं को प्रज्वलित करने लगे फिर तो उस समय उनके मुख से एक बड़ी भयंकर कन्या उत्पन्न हुई जिसकी कि दोनों जंघायें ताल. वृक्ष के समान थी।
वह युद्ध भूमि में जाकर सब असुरों का चर्बन करने लगी।
युद्ध भूमि में इस तरह विचरते हुए वह शुक्राचार्य जी के पास पहुँची और शीघ्र ही उन्हें अपने उदर में गुप्त कर लिया फिर स्वयं भी अन्तर्ध्यान हो गई।
शुक्र के गुप्त हो जाने से दैत्यों का मुख मलीन पड़ गया और वह युद्ध छोड़कर भागने लगे।
इस पर अनेक शुम्भ निशुम्भ और कालनेमि आदि सेनापतियों ने अपने भागते हुए वीरों को रोककर शिवगणों पर बड़ा कठिन प्रहार किया,
और ऐसा ही शिवजी के नन्दी आदि वीरगणों जिनमें गणेश और स्वामी कार्तिकेय भी थे अपने गणों को रोककर दैत्यों से भीषण युद्ध किया।

Oh Lord! You have narrated this wonderful story of Mahaprabhu Shankar.

Naradji said:- On being released from him, he became famous by the name of barbaric and as if having been born again he considered himself blessed and he slowly went to Jalandhar. There he told the efforts of Shankar ji.
Hearing this, the demon king got very angry and all the demon kings got very angry and he ordered all the demons to decorate the army.
All the great demons like Kalnemi and Shumbh Nishumbh started getting ready.
One by one the great demons came out in crores and got ready for the war. The majestic Sindhu went out to fight with the son of Shiva.
Maharishi Shukracharya and severed head Rahu appeared in front of him. Then at the same time the crown of Jalandhara slipped and fell on the earth. There were clouds in the sky and there were great bad omen.
On the other hand, all the deities like Indra got together and went to Kailash and told the story to Shiva and also said that-
The Lord Vishnu who was sent by you to fight with Jalandhar has become under his control and resides in his house under Jalandhar along with Lakshmi.
Now even the deities have to reside here. Now that son of the ocean is coming to fight with you.
So you protect us by killing him. Hearing all this from the gods, Shankar ji asked Lord Vishnu – O Rishikesh!
Why did you not kill Jalandhar in the war and how did you leave Baikuntha and go to his house?
Then Lord Vishnu said to Shiva with folded hands – he has not been killed because of being your Anshi or brother of Lakshmiji, he is very brave and invincible from the gods.
I tell the truth that no one can kill him. On this, Lakshmi was enchanted, I myself have given the boon to stay in his house, that’s why I stay in his house.
O Lord Vishnu! What do you call this? I will definitely kill that demon Jalandhar, there is no doubt about it.
Now all of you go to your place knowing the deity Jalandhar was killed by me.
When Shankara said so, all the gods went to their places without any doubt, at that very moment, the mighty Jalandhar surrounded Mount Kailash with his huge army and started making a hymn.
Shiva was enraged by the sound and noise of the demons. He ordered his Nandi etc. to fight with him.
A fierce battle started near Mount Kailash, the demons started showering many types of weapons.
The earth trembled at the sound of bheri mridang, conch shell and arrows and elephants, horses and chariots. A mountain of dead elephants, horses and foot was cut in the battle.
So that the battlefield became even more ignorant, the teacher of the demons, Shri Shukracharya, started to revive all the demons with his mritsanjeevani vidya.
Seeing this, the members of Shiva became distraught and went to him and narrated the whole story.
Hearing this, Lord Rudra’s anger knew no bounds. He started igniting the directions in his fierce form, then at that time a very fierce girl was born from his mouth, whose both thighs would be rhythmic. It was like a tree.
She went to the battlefield and started munching on all the demons.
While wandering like this on the battlefield, she reached Shukracharya ji and soon hid him in her abdomen, then she herself became engrossed.
Due to the secret of Venus, the faces of the demons became dirty and they started running away leaving the war.
On this many generals Shumbh Nishumbha and Kalnemi etc. stopped their fleeing heroes and attacked the Shivaganas very hard,
And in the same way, Nandi and other heroes of Shiva, including Ganesha and Swami Kartikeya, stopped their Ganas and fought a fierce battle with the demons.
