आजु मैं गाइ चरावन जैहौं।
बृन्दावन के भाँति भाँति फल
अपने कर मैं खैहौं ।
ऐसी बात कहौ जनि बारे,
देखौ अपनी भाँति।
तनक तनक पग चलिहौ कैसें,
आवत व्है है राति।
प्रात जात गैया लै चारन,
घर आवत हैं साँझ।
तुम्हरौ कमल बदन कुम्हिलैहै,
रेंगति घामहिं माँझ।
तेरी सौं मोहिं घाम न लागत,
भूख नहीं कछु नेक।
सूरदास प्रभु कह्यौ न मानत,
पर्यो आपनी टेक।
अर्थ-कृष्ण मां से हठ करने लगे कि आज तो मैं भी (और ग्वाल बालों की तरह) ग्वाल वालों के साथ गाय चराने जाऊँगा। वृन्दावन के वनों में पाए जाने वाले फलों को स्वयं अपने हाथ से तोड़-तोड़ कर खाऊंगा, मां ने कृष्ण की उम्र और उनकी कोमलता को देखते हुए कहा-अरे मेरे पुत्र! गोचारण की बात मत कहो, जरा अपनी ओर तो देखो, तू अपने तनिक-तनिक से पैरों से इतना बड़ा जंगल का रास्ता कैसे चलेगा, और वन से लौटते-लौटते तो रात भी हो जाएगी; ये ग्वाल-बाल तो सुबह मुंह अंधेरे गायों को चराने वन में ले जाते हैं और सन्ध्या होने पर ही लौटते हैं, इन ग्वाल-वालों की तरह दिन भर धूप ही धूप में रेंगते-रेंगते (धीरे-धीरे चलते हुए) तेरा तो मुख रूपी कमल मुरझा जाएगा- इसलिए मेरे लाल ! वन जाने का हठ मत कर। पर कृष्ण कहने लगे-हे मां! मैं तेरी सौगंध खाकर कहता हूँ कि मुझे गर्मी (धूप) जरा भी नहीं सताती, और भूख भी नहीं सताती है-तू मुझे बस वन जाने दे। सूरदास कहते हैं कि कृष्ण मां यशोदा का कहना न मानकर अपनी ही जिद पर अड़े हुए हैं।
बृन्दावन देख्यौ नँदनन्दन,
अतिहिं परम सुख पायौ।
जहँ-जहँ गाइ चरतिं ग्वालनि सँग,
तहँ-तहँ आपुन धायौ।
बलदाऊ मोकौं जनि छाँड़ो,
सँग तुम्हारें ऐहौं।
कैसेहुँ आजु जसोदा छाँड्यौ,
काल्हि न आवन पैहौं।
सोवत मोकौं टेरि लेहुगे,
बाबा नंद-दुहाई।
सूर स्याम बिनती करि बल सों,
सखनि समेत सुनाई।
अर्थ-वृन्दावन की वन सुषमा देखकर कृष्ण को बड़ा सुख हुआ। अति उत्साह के साथ जहां-जहां ग्वालों के साथ गाएं चर रही हैं, वहां-वहां स्वयं दौड़-दौड़कर जाते हैं। कृष्ण बलदाऊ से कहते हैं-हे बलदाऊ ! मुझे कहीं अकेला मत छोड़ देना, मैं नित्य प्रति तुम्हारे ही साथ आया करूंगा, (अगर तुमने मुझे छोड़ दिया तो) आज तो मां यशोदा ने जैसे-तैसे मुझे छोड़ दिया है, पर कल तो वह बिल्कुल भी नहीं आने देंगी; भाई! तुझे नन्द बाबा की सौगन्ध है कि कल भी मुझे सोते से उठा लोगे। सूरदास कहते हैं कि श्याम ने सभी ग्वाल-बालों के सामने, उन्हें सुनाकर बलदाऊ से विनती की।…

Meaning- Krishna started insisting on the mother that today I too (and like the cowherd hair) will go to graze the cow with the cowherds. I will eat the fruits found in the forests of Vrindavan, plucking it with my own hand, the mother, seeing Krishna’s age and his tenderness, said – Oh my son! Don’t talk about cow slaughter, just look at yourself, how will you walk such a huge forest path with your little feet, and while returning from the forest, it will be night too; These cowherd-hairs take the dark cows to the forest to graze in the morning and return only after dusk, like these cowherds, crawling in the sun all day long The lotus will wither – hence my red! Do not insist on going to the forest. But Krishna started saying – O mother! I say by taking your blessings that the heat (sunshine) does not bother me in the slightest, and I do not even feel hungry – you just let me go to the forest. Surdas says that Krishna is adamant on his own insistence by not obeying Mother Yashoda.
