[भज] निताई-गौर राधेश्याम [जप] हरेकृष्ण हरेराम
सार्वभौमके घर भिक्षा और अमोघ-उद्धार
सार्वभौमगृहे भुंजन् स्वनिन्दकममोघकम्।
अंगीकुर्वन् स्फुटीचक्रे गौरः स्वां भक्तवत्सताम्।।
गौड़ीय भक्तों के चले जाने के अनन्तर सार्वभौम भट्टाचार्य ने प्रभु के समीप आकर निवेदन किया- ‘प्रभो! अब तक तो मैंने भक्तों के कारण कहने में संकोच किया, किन्तु अब तो भक्त चले गये। अब मैं एक प्रार्थना करना चाहता हूँ, उसे आपको स्वीकार करना होगा। ‘प्रभु ने कुछ प्रेमपूर्वक व्यंग करते हुए कहा- ‘सब बातों को पहले ही स्वीकार करा लिया करें, तब बताया करें यह भी कोई बात हुई, बताइये क्या बात है, जो मानने योग्य होगी तो मान लूँगा और न मानने योग्य होगी तो ‘न’ कर दूँगा।’ भट्टाचार्य ने कहा- ‘नहीं, ऐसी कोई बात नहीं है। मानने तो योग्य है।’
प्रभु ने जल्दी से कहा- ‘जब पहले से ही मालूम है कि बात मानने योग्य है, तब संदेह ही क्यों किया? अच्छा, खैर सुनूँ भी तो कौन-सी बात है ?’
कुछ सोचते-सोचते धीरे-धीरे भट्टाचार्य सार्वभौम ने कहा- ‘मेरी भी इच्छा है और षाठी (भट्टाचार्य की छोटी पुत्री) की माता भी बहुत दिनों से पीछे पड़ रही है कि प्रभु को कुछ काल तक निरन्तर ही अपने घर लाकर भिक्षा करायी जाय। आप अधिक दिनों तो हमारी भिक्षा स्वीकार ही क्यों करेंगे, किन्तु कम-से-कम एक मासपर्यन्त तो अपनी चरण-धूलि से हमारे नये घर को पवित्र बनाइये ही। यही मेरी प्रार्थना है।’
प्रभु ने जोरों से हंसते हुए कहा- ‘आप तो कहते थे, मानने योग्य बात है। इस बात को भला कोई संन्यासी स्वीकार कर सकता है कि एक महीने तक निरन्तर एक ही आदमी के यहाँ भिक्षा करता रहे। संन्यासी के लिये तो घर-घर से मधुकारी मांगकर उदरपूर्ति करने का विधान है।’
भट्टाचार्य ने कहा- ‘प्रभो! इन सब बातों को रहने दीजिये। आप इस प्रार्थना को स्वीकार करके हमारी तथा हमारे सब परिवार की इच्छापूर्ति कीजिये।’
प्रभु ने आश्चर्य-सा प्रकट करते हुए कहा- ‘आचार्य! आप भी जब ऐसे धर्मविरुद्ध काम के लिये मुझे विवश करेंगे, तो फिर मूर्ख भक्तों की तो बात ही अलग रही। एक-दो दिन कहें तो भिक्षा कर भी लूँ।’ अन्त में पांच दिन की भिक्षा बहुत वाद-विवाद के पश्चात् निश्चित हुई। भट्टाचार्य प्रभु को एकान्त में ही भोजन कराना चाहते थे। इसलिये प्रभु के साथी अन्य साधु-महात्माओं को दूसरे-दूसरे दिनों के लिये निमन्त्रित किया।
नियत समय पर महाप्रभु भट्टाचार्य के घर भिक्षा करने के लिए पहुँचे। भट्टाचार्य के चंदनेश्वर नाम का एक लड़का और षाठी नाम की लड़की थी। षाठी के पति अमोघ भट्टाचार्य सार्वभौम के ही पास रहते थे। वे महाशय बड़े ही अश्रद्धालु और नास्तिक प्रकृति के पुरुष थे। इसलिए सार्वभौम ही भिक्षा के समय उन्हें किसी काम से बहार भेज दिया था। महाप्रभु को एकांत में बिठाकर सार्वभौम उन्हें भिक्षा कराने लगे। सार्वभौम की गृहिणी ने अनेक प्रकार की भोज्यसामग्रियाँ प्रभु की भिक्षा के निमित्त बनायी थीं। बीसों प्रकार के साग, अनेकों प्रकार के खट्टे-मीठे अचार तथा मुरब्बे थे। कई प्रकार के चावल, नाना प्रकार की मिठाइयाँ तथा और भी पचासों प्रकार की वस्तुएँ थीं। कुछ तो षाठी की माता ने घर में ही तैयार की थीं, कुछ भगवान के प्रसाद की वस्तुएँ मन्दिर से मँगवा ली थीं। सार्वभौम ने पचासों पात्रों में पृथक्-पृथक् वे पदार्थ प्रभु के सामने परोसे। महाप्रभु उन इतने पदार्थों को देखकर बड़े ही प्रसन्न हुए और आश्चर्य तथा प्रसन्नता प्रकट करते हुए कहने लगे- ‘महान आश्चर्य की बात है। चन्दनेश्वर की माता ने एक दिन में ये इतनी चीजें कैसे तैयार कर लीं। इतनी वस्तुओं को तो बीसों स्त्रियाँ पृथक्-पृथक् सैकड़ों चूल्हों पर भी तैयार नहीं कर सकतीं। भट्टाचार्य सार्वभौम ही धन्य हैं, जिनके घर भगवान को इतनी वस्तुएँ भोग लगती हैं। किन्तु इतनी चीजों को खायेगा कौन, इनसे तो बीसों आदमियों का पेट भर जायगा और फिर भी बच रहेंगी। आप इनमें से थोड़ी-थोड़ी कम कर दीजिये।’
भट्टाचार्य ने कहा- ‘प्रभो! अधिक नहीं है मन्दिर में 56 प्रकार के भोगों से बहुत ही कम है। फिर वहाँ तो बीसों बार भोग लगता है। यहाँ तो मैंने एक ही बार थोड़ा-थोड़ा परोसा है, इसे ही पाकर मुझे कृतार्थ कीजिये।’
महाप्रभु सार्वभौम के आग्रह से प्रसाद पाने लगे। महाप्रभु की जो चीज आधी निबट जाती उसे ही जल्दी से लाकर फिर भट्टाचार्य पूरी कर देते। प्रभु को परोसते समय भी उन्हें अपने जामाता अमोघ का ध्यान बना हुआ था, इसलिये वे पदार्थों को परोसकर जल्दी से दरवाजे पर जा बैठते, जिसमे अमोघ यहाँ आकर किसी प्रकार का विध्न उपस्थित न कर दे। इतने में ही भट्टाचार्य ने अमोघ को आते हुए देखा। दूर से देखते ही उन्होंने उसे दूसरे घर में आने की आज्ञा दी। उस समय तो अमोघ घर में चला गया, किन्तु जब भट्टाचार्य प्रभु के लिये कुछ लेने के लिये दूसरे घर में चले, तब जल्दी से वह प्रभु के पास आ पहुँचा।
महाप्रभु के सामने सैकड़ों प्रकार के व्यंजनों का ढेर देखकर दांतों से जीभ काटता हुआ अमोघ कहने लगा- ‘बाप रे बाप! यह संन्यासी है या कोई आफत का पुतला है। इतना भोजन तो बीस आदमी भी नहीं कर सकते। यह इतना भोजन कैसे कर जायगा ?’ इस बात को सुनते ही सार्वभौम भट्टाचार्य वहाँ जल्दी से आकर उपस्थित हो गये और अमोघ को दस उलटी-सीधी बातें सुनाकर वे प्रभुसे इस अपराध के लिये क्षमा-याचना करने लगे।
महाप्रभु ने बड़ी ही सरलता के साथ कहा- ‘इसमें अमोघ ने अपराध ही क्या किया है, उसने ठीक ही बात कही है। भला, संन्यासी को इतने पदार्थ खिलाकर उसे कोई सदाचारी बने रहने की कैसे आशा कर सकता है ? आपने मुझे इतना अधिक भोजन करा दिया है कि जमीन से उठना भी मेरे लिये अशक्य हो रहा है। अमोघ ने तो बिलकुल सच्ची बात कही है। आप उसकी प्रतारणा न करें। मुझे उसके ऊपर जरा-सा भी क्षोभ नहीं है, आप अपने मन में कुछ और न समझें।’ महाप्रभु इतना कहकर और भिक्षा पाकर अपने स्थान को लौट आये।
महाप्रभु इतना कहकर और भिक्षा पाकर अपने स्थानको लौट आये। सार्वभौम तथा उनकी पत्नीको इस घटनासे बड़ा दुःख हुआ। वे प्रभुके अपमानसे क्षुभित होकर अमोघको कोसने लगे। भट्टाचार्य तथा उसकी पत्नीने कुछ भी नहीं खाया। भट्टाचार्यकी लड़की षाठीदेवी अपने भाग्यको बार-बार कोसने लगी। वह भगवान् से कहती-‘हे दयालो! ऐसे पतिसे तो मेरा पतिहीन रहना अच्छा है। या तो मेरे इस शरीरका अन्त कर दे या ऐसे साधुद्रोही पतिको ही मुझसे पृथक् कर दें।’ अमोघ अपने श्वशुरकी लाल-लाल आँखोंको देखकर बाहर चला गया और उस दिन रात्रिमें भी घर लौटकर नहीं आया। उस दिन मारे चिन्ताके भट्टाचार्यके परिवारभरमें किसीने भोजन नहीं किया। भगवान् की विचित्र लीला तो देखिये, अमोघको अपनी करनीका प्रत्यक्ष फल मिल गया। दूसरे ही दिन उसे भयंकर ‘विषूचिका’ रोग हो गया।
इस समाचारको सुनते ही कुछ प्रसन्नता प्रकट करते हुए सार्वभौमने कहा-‘चलो, अच्छा ही हुआ। ‘अत्युग्रपापपुण्यानामिहैव फलमश्नुते’ अत्यन्त उग्र पाप-पुण्योंका फल यहीं इस पृथ्वीपर मिल जाता है। अमोघने जैसा किया वैसा ही उसका प्रत्यक्ष फल पा लिया।’ लोग अमोघको उठाकर सार्वभौमके घर ले आये। आचार्य गोपीनाथने यह संवाद जाकर प्रभुको सुनाया। सुनते ही महाप्रभु सार्वभौमके घर जल्दीसे दौड़े आये। उन्होंने आकर देखा, अमोघ बेसुध हुआ पलंगपर पड़ा है। उसके जीवनकी किसीको भी आशा नहीं है। तब तो महाप्रभु उसके पलंगके पास गये और उसके हृदयपर हाथ रखकर कहने लगे-‘अहा, बच्चोंका हृदय कितना कोमल होता है, फिर कुलीन ब्राह्मणोंका तो कहना ही क्या ? ब्राह्मणोंका स्वच्छ निर्मल अन्तःकरण प्रभुके निवासके ही योग्य होता है। न जाने यह राक्षस मात्सर्य इस अमोघके अन्तःकरण में कहांसे घुस गया।’
प्रभु ने थोड़ी देर चुप रहकर फिर कहा-‘ओ दुष्ट मात्सर्य! सार्वभौम भट्टाचार्यके घरमें रहनेवाले अमोघके अन्तःकरणमें प्रवेश करनेका तुझे साहस कैसे हुआ ? सार्वभौमके भयसे तू अभी भाग जा।’ इतना कहकर प्रभु फिर अमोघको सम्बोधन करके कहने लगे-‘अमोघ! तेरे हृदयमेंसे चाण्डाल मात्सर्य भाग गया, अब तू जल्दीसे उठकर श्रीकृष्णके मधुर नामोंको उच्चारण कर।’ इतना सुनते ही अमोघ सोते हुए मनुष्यकी भाँति जल्दीसे उठकर खड़ा हो गया और ‘श्रीकृष्ण गोविन्द हरे मुरारे! हे नाथ नारायण वासुदेव!!’ आदि भगवान् के नामोंका जोरोंसे उच्चारण करता हुआ नृत्य करने लगा। उसकी इस अद्भुत परिवर्तित दशाको देखकर सभी आश्चर्यचकित होकर प्रभुके श्रीमुखकी ओर निहारने लगे और इसे महाप्रभुका ही परम प्रसाद समझने लगे। अमोघने भी प्रभुके पैरोंमें पड़कर उनसे अपने पूर्वकृत अपराधके लिये क्षमा-याचना की। महाप्रभुने उसे गले लगाकर सान्त्वना प्रदान की। अमोघको अपने कुकृत्यपर बड़ा ही पश्चात्ताप होने लगा। वह अपने अपराधको स्मरण करके दोनों हाथोंसे अपने ही गालोंपर तमाचे मारने लगा। इससे उसके दोनों गाल सूज गये। तब आचार्य गोपीनाथने उसे इस कामसे निवारण किया। महाप्रभुने उसे कृष्ण-कीर्तनका उपदेश दिया। उसी दिनसे अमोघ परम भागवत वैष्णव बन गया और उसकी गणना प्रभुके अन्तरंग भक्तोंमें होने लगी। तब महाप्रभुने गोपीनाथाचार्यको आज्ञा दी कि तुम स्वयं जाकर भट्टाचार्य और उनकी पत्नीको भोजन कराओ। प्रभुकी आज्ञा पाकर आचार्य सार्वभौमको साथ लेकर घर गये और उन्हें भोजन कराया। प्रभुके कहनेपर सार्वभौमने अमोघको क्षमा कर दिया और उस दिनसे बहुत अधिक प्यार करने लगे। अमोघ भी महाप्रभुके चरणोंमें अधिकाधिक प्रीति करने लगा।

Eating in the house of the sovereign, his own blasphemer is infallible. Accepting the crystal wheel, Gaura became his devotee’s calf.
After the departure of the Gaudiya devotees, Sarvabhaum Bhattacharya came near the Lord and requested – ‘Lord! Till now I hesitated to say because of the devotees, but now the devotees are gone. Now I want to make a request, you have to accept it. ‘ Prabhu said sarcastically with some love – ‘Let’s get everything accepted in advance, then tell if this is also a matter, tell me what is the matter, if it is agreeable then I will accept it and if it is not agreeable then I will not’ ‘ Will do it.’ Bhattacharya said- ‘No, there is no such thing. It is worth accepting.
The Lord quickly said – ‘ When it is already known that it is worth accepting, then why did you doubt? Well, even if I listen, what is the matter?’
After thinking something Bhattacharya Sarvabhaum slowly said – ‘ I also have a desire and the mother of Shathi (Bhattacharya’s younger daughter) is also lagging behind for a long time that the Lord should be brought to her home continuously for some time and given alms. Why would you accept our alms for more days, but at least for a month, make our new house pure with the dust of your feet. This is my prayer.
The Lord laughed out loud and said – ‘ You used to say, it is something to be accepted. Any sannyasin can accept this fact that for a month continuously he keeps begging at the same person’s place. There is a law for a sannyasin to make ends meet by asking for honey from every house.’
Bhattacharya said – ‘Lord! Let all these things remain. Please accept this prayer and fulfill our wishes and that of all our families.’
Expressing surprise, the Lord said – ‘Acharya! When you will also force me to do such anti-religious work, then the matter of foolish devotees is different. If asked for a day or two, I will also do alms.’ In the end, five days’ alms was fixed after a lot of debate. Bhattacharya wanted to feed the Lord in solitude. That’s why other saints and Mahatma’s who were the companions of the Lord were invited for other days.
At the appointed time, Mahaprabhu reached Bhattacharya’s house to beg. Bhattacharya had a boy named Chandaneshwar and a girl named Shathi. Shathi’s husband Amogh Bhattacharya lived near Sarvabhaum. That gentleman was a man of very irreligious and atheistic nature. That’s why the sovereign had sent him out for some work at the time of begging. After making Mahaprabhu sit in solitude, Sarvabhaum started begging him. The housewife of the universe had made many types of food items for the alms of the Lord. There were twenty types of greens, many types of sweet and sour pickles and jams. There were many types of rice, different types of sweets and fifty other types of things. Some were prepared by Shathi’s mother at home, some were bought from the temple for the offerings of God. The sovereign served those things separately in fifty vessels in front of the Lord. Mahaprabhu was very pleased to see so many things and expressed his surprise and happiness and said – ‘ It is a matter of great surprise. How did Chandaneshwar’s mother prepare so many things in one day? Even twenty women cannot prepare so many things separately on hundreds of stoves. Blessed is Bhattacharya Sarvabhaum, in whose house God enjoys so many things. But who will eat so many things, they will fill the stomach of twenty people and still they will be saved. You reduce some of these.
Bhattacharya said – ‘ Lord! There is not much, there is very little of the 56 types of bhogs in the temple. Then there is enjoyment twenty times. Here, I have served only a little bit at a time, do me a favor by getting this only.’
With the request of Mahaprabhu Sarvabhaum, he started receiving prasad. Whatever Mahaprabhu’s work was half done, Bhattacharya would have brought it quickly and then completed it. Even while serving the Lord, he was thinking of his son-in-law Amogh, so after serving the food, he would quickly sit at the door, so that Amogh would not come here and cause any kind of disturbance. Meanwhile, Bhattacharya saw Amogh coming. Seeing him from a distance, he ordered him to come to another house. At that time Amogh went to the house, but when Bhattacharya went to another house to get something for Prabhu, he quickly reached Prabhu.
Seeing a pile of hundreds of dishes in front of Mahaprabhu, biting his tongue, Amogh started saying- ‘Father, Father! Is he a sannyasin or an effigy of disaster. Even twenty people cannot eat that much food. How will it be able to eat so much?’ On hearing this, Sarvabhaum Bhattacharya hurriedly appeared there and after narrating ten wrong things to Amogh, he started apologizing to the Lord for this crime.
Mahaprabhu said very simply – ‘ What crime has Amogh committed in this, he has said the right thing. Well, after feeding so many things to a monk, how can one expect him to remain virtuous? You have given me so much food that even getting up from the ground is becoming impossible for me. Amogh has said absolutely true thing. Don’t molest her. I don’t have the slightest grudge against him, don’t think anything else in your mind.’ Mahaprabhu returned to his place after saying this and getting alms.
Mahaprabhu returned to his place after saying this and getting alms. Sarvabhuma and his wife were deeply saddened by this incident. They started cursing Amogh after being angry with the insult of the Lord. Bhattacharya and his wife did not eat anything. Bhattacharya’s daughter Shathidevi started cursing her fate again and again. She used to say to God – ‘O merciful! It is better for me to remain husbandless than such a husband. Either put an end to this body of mine or separate such a traitorous husband from me.’ Amogh went out after seeing the red eyes of his father-in-law and did not return home that day even at night. That day no one in the entire family of Chintake Bhattacharya had food. Look at the strange leela of God, Amogh got the visible result of his actions. The very next day he got a terrible ‘Vishuchika’ disease.
Expressing some happiness on hearing this news, the universal said – ‘ Come on, it’s good. ‘Atyugrapaappunyanamihaiva phalamshnute’, the fruit of extremely fierce sins and virtues is found here on this earth. As Amoghne did, so did he get its visible fruit. People picked up Amogh and brought him to the house of the universal. Acharya Gopinath went and narrated this dialogue to the Lord. On hearing this, Mahaprabhu hurriedly ran to the house of Sarvabhaum. He came and saw, Amogh was lying unconscious on the bed. No one has any hope for his life. Then Mahaprabhu went to his bed and put his hand on his heart and said – ‘Aha, children’s heart is so soft, then what to say about elite Brahmins? The clean and pure conscience of Brahmins is only eligible for the abode of the Lord. Don’t know from where this demonic jealousy entered the heart of this innocent.
The Lord remained silent for a while and then said – ‘O wicked Matsarya! How did you dare to enter the heart of Amogha who lives in the house of Sarvabhaum Bhattacharya? Out of fear of the universal, run away now.’ Having said this, the Lord then addressed Amogh and said – ‘Amogh! Chandal jealousy has fled from your heart, now you get up quickly and chant the sweet names of Shri Krishna.’ On hearing this, Amogh got up quickly like a sleeping man and said ‘Shri Krishna Govind Hare Murare! Hey Nath Narayan Vasudev!!’ Adi started dancing loudly chanting the names of God. Everyone was surprised to see his wonderful changed condition and started looking at the face of the Lord and considered it as the supreme prasad of Mahaprabhu. Amoghne also fell at the feet of the Lord and apologized to him for his earlier crime. Mahaprabhu consoled him by hugging him. Amogh started feeling very remorseful for his misdeeds. Remembering his crime, he started slapping his own cheeks with both hands. This made both his cheeks swollen. Then Acharya Gopinath saved him from this work. Mahaprabhu preached Krishna-Kirtan to him. From that day onwards Amogha became Param Bhagwat Vaishnava and he was counted among the intimate devotees of the Lord. Then Mahaprabhu ordered Gopinathacharya to go himself and feed Bhattacharya and his wife. After getting the permission of the Lord, Acharya went home taking Sarvabhaum with him and fed him. At the behest of the Lord, the universal forgave Amogh and started loving him very much from that day. Amogh also started loving more and more at the feet of Mahaprabhu.
