पहले एक परमात्मा ही थे, वे ही परमात्मा संसार रूप से प्रकट हो गए एकोऽहं बहुस्याम् और अन्त में सब लीन होकर एक परमात्मा ही शेष रह जायेंगे शिष्यते शेष संज्ञः जो आदि-अन्त में होता है, वही मध्य में होता है और जो आदि-अन्त में नहीं होता, वह बीच में भी नहीं ही होता है। जैसे सोने से बने गहने पहले सोना थे, अन्त में गलाकर एक कर दें तो सोना ही रह जाएगा, तो बीच में गहने दिखते हुए भी वे सोना-रूप ही थे। गहनों का रूप, आकृति, तोल, उपयोग, मुल्य अलग-अलग होते हुए भी धातु चीज से सोना ही है।
इस रीति से सज्जनों हम मानें चाहे नहीं मानें, जानें चाहे नहीं जानें— यह संसार परमात्म-स्वरूप ही है। जिसकी दृष्टि में सब कुछ वासुदेव ही है, ऐसा महात्मा दुर्लभ है।
हरि दुर्लभ नहीं जगत में, हरिजन दुर्लभ होय।
हरि हेर्-याँ सब जग मिले, हरिजन कहीं एक होय॥
रे मत हरि सों प्रीत कर हरिजन सों कर हेत।
हरि रीझैं जग देत है हरिजन हरि हि देत॥
हरिजन (सन्त-महात्मा) क्या देते हैं— कि ‘सब कुछ वासुदेव ही है’, ऐसे हरिजन हरि को ही दे देते हैं। आपके अपना नाम, जाति, माता-पिता आदि माने हुए ही हैं, मेरे कहने से सब कुछ भगवान् ही हैं, ऐसा मान लो। सब परमात्मा से ही उत्पन्न हुए हैं, परमात्मा में ही स्थित हैं और परमात्मा में ही लीन हो जायेंगे। अभी वर्तमान में कलियुग चल रहा है तो भगवान् कलियुग की लीला कर रहे हैं; लीला को देखकर भगवद्भाव में कमी नहीं आनी चाहिए।
महाभारत में वर्णन आता है— भीष्मजी, कुन्ती माता और विदुरजी भगवान् को जितना तत्त्व से जानते थे, उतना युधिष्ठिर भी नहीं जानते थे, लेकिन युद्ध में भीष्मजी ने अर्जुन के साथ ऐसा युद्ध किया, भगवान् को ऐसे जोर से बाण मारे कि भगवान् का कवच टूट गया, हाथों से घोड़ों की लगाम पकड़ना मुश्किल हो गया। युद्ध ऐसा किया, लेकिन भीष्मजी के भगवद्भाव में कहीं भी कमी नहीं थी। भगवान् कहते हैं— मैं संसार में नहीं हूँ, संसार मेरे में नहीं है, सब कुछ मैं ही मैं हूँ। — यह राजविद्या सब विद्याओं की राजा है।
