एक बार वृन्दावन में हमारे मन में अकस्मात इच्छा हुई की हम गंगा स्नान करने जायें।
सोमवती अमावस्या आ रही थी त्रयोदशी का दिन था, विचार आया कि कल चतुर्दशी को गंगाजी जायेंगे रात्रि विश्राम करके अमावस्या को प्रातः भोर में स्नान करेंगे और उसके बाद वृन्दावन वापस आ जायेंगे।
वाहन की कोई व्यवस्था नहीं थी तो, महाराजजी के एक कृपापात्र मलहोत्राजी थे, उनसे हमने कहा, सोमवती अमावस्या पर गंगा स्नान की इच्छा हुई है, यदि आप का वाहन सही हो और आप ले चलें तो बहुत कृपा होगी।’
मलहोत्राजी ने कहा, ‘यह तो बहुत अच्छी बात है, बताईये कहाँ चलेंगे ?’
हमने कहा, ‘आज चतुर्दशी का दिन है समय भी अधिक हो गया है तो पास में ही रामघाट है, वहीं ले चलिये।’
मलहोत्राजी बोले, ‘महाराज! रामघाट तो हमने देखा नहीं है, आपकी आज्ञा हो तो शुकतीर्थ चलते हैं, वहीं गंगा स्नान कीजियेगा।’
यह तय करके मलहोत्राजी गाड़ी शुकतीर्थ की ओर ले चले। शुकतीर्थ पहुँचते-पहुँचते शाम हो गयी। शुकतीर्थ पहुँचे तो देखा, तीर्थ में जल बहुत कम है। मलहोत्राजी बोले, ‘महाराजजी’ यहाँ तो जल बहुत कम है, हरिद्वार भी पास ही है तो वहीं चलते हैं।’
हमने कहा, ‘जब उधर ही जाना है तो हरिद्वार क्यों ऋषिकेश गीता भवन ही ले चलिये, वहाँ ठहरने की उचित व्यवस्था भी हो जायेगी और सन्त श्रीरामसुखदासजी का दर्शन भी हो जायेगा। उनका दर्शन करने मात्र से ही गंगा स्नान का फल मिल जायेगा, तथा वहाँ के सभी प्रेमी सन्तों के बीच एक रात का रहना भी हो जायेगा। प्रातः चार बजे गंगा स्नान करेंगे और पाँच बजे स्वामी श्रीरामसुखदासजी की प्रार्थना में सम्मिलित होकर वापस वृन्दावन निकल चलेंगे, तो आप ऋषिकेश ही ले चलिये।’
शुकतीर्थ से मलहोत्राजी गाड़ी ऋषिकेश की ओर ले चले। ऋषिकेश पहुँचते रात्रि का 9:30-10:00 बज गया। सभी लोग जानते थे कि स्वामी का सोने-जागने का समय बहुत विलक्षण था। वे रात्रि 12 बजे के बाद जाग जाते थे, फिर थोड़ी देर अपना चिन्तन लेखन करते थे। उसके बाद कुछ समय विश्राम करके स्नान करके प्रार्थना में आ जाते थे। तो उस समय उनके दर्शन की कोई आशा नहीं थी।
जब उतनी रात्रि में हम गीता भवन पहुँचे तो स्वामीजी के सेवकों से पता चला कि आज स्वामीजी विश्राम में नहीं गये हैं, और अभी तक बैठे हुए हैं। उनके बैठे होने की बात जानकर मन में विचार हुआ कि चलकर पहले स्वामीजी को अभी प्रणाम कर लिया जाय।
राम दुआरे तुम रखवारे, होत न आज्ञा विनु पैठारे
महान सन्तों के सेवकों से भी बनाकर रखनी चाहिये, समय पर बहुत काम आते हैं; तो उस समय नियम तो नहीं था, स्वामीजी के दर्शन का; पर हमने उनके सेवकों से कहा यदि अनुमति हो
तो उनके दर्शन कर लिये जायें। उनके सेवकों ने कहा, ‘आप चलिये हम उनसे मिलवा देते हैं, और हम सीधे स्वामीजी के कक्ष की ओर चल दिये।
जैसे ही हम स्वामीजी के कक्ष में प्रविष्ट हुए तो हमें देखते ही स्वामीजी हाथ उठा-उठाकर खुशी में मारवाड़ी का भजन भजन गाने लगे–’आयाजी-आयाजी म्हारे सन्त पावणा आयाजी।’
भजन गाकर स्वामीजी बोले, ‘कल से मेरे मन में यह बात आ रही थी कि बहुत दिन हो गये आप यहाँ आये नहीं। आपसे मिलने की बहुत तीव्र इच्छा हो रही है। आप आज आयेंगे इसी आशा में हम अभी तक बैठे आपका इन्तजार कर रहे थे। अब आप आ गये हैं, तो दो-चार दिन तो रूकेंगे ही। अभी आप भी विश्राम कीजिये और अब हम भी विश्राम करेंगे।’
स्वामीजी के इतना कहते ही हमें विचार आया कि स्वामीजी जैसे सिद्ध महापुरुष के हृदय में इस दीन-हीन का स्मरण हुआ तभी मेरे मन में गंगा-स्नान की तीव्र इच्छा प्रकट हुई और मैं रामघाट, शुकतीर्थ आदि सब छोड़कर यहाँ स्वामीजी के सम्मुख गीता भवन में आ पहुँचा। मुझे आज यहाँ पहुँचाना ही था क्योंकि स्वामीजी के मन के तार जो मुझे खींच रहे थे। फिर हमने भी प्रातः वृन्दावन प्रस्थान का विचार तुरन्त त्याग दिया और स्वामीजी से आज्ञा मिलने तक का विचार करके विश्राम के लिये चले गये।
Once in Vrindavan, a sudden desire occurred in our mind that we should go to bathe in the Ganges. Somvati Amavasya was coming, it was the day of Trayodashi, the thought came that tomorrow on Chaturdashi, Gangaji will go to Gangaji, take a night’s rest and take bath in the morning on Amavasya and after that he will come back to Vrindavan. If there was no arrangement for the vehicle, then Maharajji had a benevolent Malhotra, we said to him, I have a desire to bathe in the Ganges on Somvati Amavasya, if your vehicle is right and you take it, it will be very pleased.’ Malhotra said, ‘It is a very good thing, tell me where will you go?’ We said, ‘Today is the day of Chaturdashi, if the time has become too much, then Ramghat is nearby, take it there.’ Malhotra said, ‘Maharaj! We have not seen Ramghat, if you have permission, then go to Shuktirtha, where you will take a bath in the Ganges. After deciding this, Malhotra took the car towards Shuktirtha. By the time we reached Shuktirtha, it was evening. When he reached Shuktirth, he saw that there is very little water in the shrine. Malhotra said, ‘Maharajji’ the water is very less here, Haridwar is also nearby, so let’s go there. We said, ‘When you have to go there, why take Haridwar to Rishikesh Geeta Bhawan only, proper arrangements for staying there will also be made and Sant Shri Ramsukhdasji’s darshan will also be there. Only by seeing them one will get the fruits of bathing in the Ganges, and there will also be a one-night stay among all the loving saints. Will take bath in the Ganges at four in the morning and go back to Vrindavan after attending the prayer of Swami Shri Ramsukhdasji at five o’clock, then you should take it to Rishikesh only.’ From Shuktirth, Malhotra took the car towards Rishikesh. Reaching Rishikesh it was 9:30-10:00 in the night. Everyone knew that Swami’s sleep-wake time was very peculiar. He used to wake up after 12 o’clock in the night, then he used to write his thoughts for a while. After that, after taking rest for some time, he used to take bath and come to prayer. So there was no hope of his darshan at that time. When we reached Gita Bhawan that night, it came to know from Swamiji’s servants that today Swamiji has not gone to rest, and is still sitting. Knowing that he was sitting, there was a thought in the mind that first of all, Swamiji should be bowed down now.
You are the guardian of the door of Ram, but you do not enter without command
The servants of the great sages should also be kept, many works are done on time; So at that time there was no rule, Swamiji’s darshan; But we told his servants if allowed
So go see them. His servants said, ‘Come on, let us introduce him, and we headed straight to Swamiji’s room. As soon as we entered Swamiji’s room, Swamiji raised his hand and started singing the hymn of Marwari in joy – ‘Ayaji-Ayaji Mhare Sant Pavana Aayaji’. Singing a hymn, Swamiji said, ‘Since yesterday, this thing was coming in my mind that it has been a long time that you have not come here. There is a very strong desire to meet you. You will come today, in the hope that we were waiting for you till now. Now that you have come, you will have to stay for two or four days. Now you also take rest and now we will also rest.’ As soon as Swamiji said this, we got the idea that in the heart of a perfect great man like Swamiji, this humility was remembered, only then a strong desire to bathe in the Ganges appeared in my mind and I left all Ramghat, Shuktirtha etc. here in Gita Bhawan in front of Swamiji. Arrive. I had to reach here today because the strings of Swamiji’s mind were pulling me. Then we also immediately abandoned the idea of going to Vrindavan in the morning and went for rest after thinking till we got permission from Swamiji.
