[भज] निताई-गौर राधेश्याम [जप] हरेकृष्ण हरेराम
भक्त हरिदास
अहो बत श्वपचोऽतो गरीयान्
यज्जिह्वाग्रे वर्तते नाम तुभ्यम्।
तेपुस्तपस्ते जुहुवुः सस्नुरार्या
ब्रह्मानूचुर्नाम गृणन्ति ये ते।।
जिनकी तनिक-सी कृपा की कोर के ही कारण यह नाम-रूपात्मक सम्पूर्ण संसार स्थित है, जिनके भ्रूभंगमात्र से ही त्रिगुणात्मिका प्रकृति अपना सभी कार्य बन्द कर देती है, उन अखिलकोटि-ब्रह्माण्डनायक भगवान के नाम-माहात्म्य का वर्णन बेचारी अपूर्ण भाषा कर ही क्या सकती है? हरि-नाम-स्मरण से क्या नहीं हो सकता। भगवन्नाम-जप से कौन-सा कार्य सिद्ध नहीं हो सकता? जिसकी जिह्वा को सुमधुर श्रीहरि के नामरूपी रस का चस्का लग गया है, उसके लिये फिर संसार में प्राप्त वस्तु ही क्या रह जाती है? यज्ञ, याग, जप, तप, ध्यान, पूजा, निष्ठा, योग, समाधि सभी का फल भगवन्नाम में प्रीति होना ही है, यदि इन कर्मों के करने से भगवन्नाम में प्रीति नहीं हुई, तो इन कर्मों को व्यर्थ ही समझना चाहिये। इन सभी क्रियाओं का अन्तिम और सर्वश्रेष्ठ फल यही है कि भगवन्नाम में निष्ठा हो। साध्य तो भगवन्नाम ही है, और सभी कर्म तो उसके साधनमात्र हैं। नाम-जप में देश, काल, पात्र, जाति, वर्ण, समय-असमय, शुचि-अशुचि इन सभी बातों का विचार नहीं होता। तुम जैसी हालत में हो, जहाँ हो, जैसे हो, जिस-किसी भी वर्ण के हो, जैसी भी स्थिति में हो, हर समय और हर काल में श्रीहरि के सुमधुर नामों का संकीर्तन कर सकते हो। नाम-जप से पापी-से-पापी मनुष्य भी परमपावन बन जाता है, अत्यन्त नीच-से-नीच भी सर्वपूज्य समझा जाता है, छोटे-से-छोटा भी सर्वश्रेष्ठ हो जाता है और बुरे-से-बुरा भी महान भगवद्भक्त बन जाता है। कबीरदास जी कहते हैं-
नाम जपत कुष्ठी भलो, चुइ-चुइ गिरै जो चाम।
कंचन देह किस कामकी, जिहि मुख नाहीं राम।।
भक्ताग्रगण्य महात्मा हरिदास जी यवन-कुल में उत्पन्न होने पर भी भगवन्नाम के प्रभाव से भगवद्भक्त वैष्णवों के प्रातःस्मरणीय बन गये। इन महात्मा की भगवन्नाम में अलौकिक निष्ठा थी। महात्मा हरिदास जी का जन्म बंगाल के यशोहर जिले के अन्तर्गत ‘बुड़न’ नाम के एक ग्राम में हुआ था। ये जाति के मुसलमान थे। मालूम होता है, बाल्यकाल में ही इनके माता-पिता इन्हें मातृ-पितृहीन बनाकर परलोकगामी बन गये थे, इसीलिये ये छोटेपन से ही घर-द्वार छोड़कर निरन्तर हरिनाम का संकीर्तन करते हुए विचरने लगे। पूर्व-जन्म के कोई शुभ संस्कार ही थे, भगवान की अनन्य कृपा थी, इसीलिये मुसलमान-वंश में उत्पन्न होकर भी इनकी भगवन्नाम में स्वाभाविक ही निष्ठा जम गयी। भगवान ने अनेकों बार कहा है- ‘यस्याहमनुगृह्णामि हरिष्ये तदधनं शनैः।’ अर्थात जिसे मैं कृपा करके अपनी शरण में लेता हूँ, सबसे पहले धीरे से उसका सर्वस्व अपहरण कर लेता हूँ। उसके पास अपना कहने के लिये किसी भी प्रकार का धन नहीं रहने देता।
सबसे पहले भगवान की इनके ऊपर यही एक बड़ी भारी कृपा हुई। अपना कहने के लिये इनके पास एक काठ का कमण्डलु भी नहीं था। भूख लगने पर ये गाँवों से भिक्षा माँग लाते और भिक्षा में जो भी कुछ मिल जाता, उसे चौबीस घंटे में एक ही बार खाकर निरन्तर भगवन्नाम का जप करते रहते। घर छोड़कर ये वनग्राम के समीप बेनापोल नाम के घोर निर्जन वन में फूस की कुटी बनाकर अकेले ही रहते थे। इनके तेज और प्रभाव से वहाँ के सभी प्राणी एक प्रकार की अलौकिक शान्ति का अनुभव करते। जो भी जीव इनके सम्मुख आता वही इनके प्रभाव से प्रभावान्वित हो जाता। ये दिन-रात्रि में तीन लाख भगवन्नामों का जप करते थे, सो भी धीरे-धीरे नहीं, किंतु खूब उच्च स्वर से। भगवन्नाम का ये उच्च स्वर से जप इसलिये करते थे कि सभी चर-अचर प्राणी प्रभु के पवित्र नामों के श्रवण से पावन हो जायँ। प्राणिमात्र की निष्कृति का ये भगवन्नाम को ही एकमात्र साधन समझते थे। इससे थोड़े ही दिनों में इनका यशःसौरभ दूर-दूर तक फैल गया। बड़ी-बड़ी दूर से लोग इनके दर्शन को आने लगे। दुष्ट बुद्धि के ईर्ष्यालु लोगों को इनका इतना यश असह्य हो गया। वे इनसे अकारण ही द्वेष मानने लगे।
उन ईर्ष्यालुओं में वहाँ का एक रामचन्द्र खाँ नाम का बड़ा भारी जमींदार भी था। वह इन्हें किसी प्रकार नीचा दिखाना चाहता था। इनके बढ़े हुए यश को धूलि में मिलाने की बात वह सोचने लगा। साधकों को पतित करने के कामिनी और कांचन- ये ही दो भारी प्रलोभन हैं, इनमें कामिनी का प्रलोभन तो सर्वश्रेष्ठ ही समझा जाता है। रामचन्द्र खाँ ने उसी प्रलोभन के द्वारा हरिदास को नीचा दिखाने का निश्चय किया। किंतु उनकी रक्षा तो उनके साईं ही सदा करते थे। फिर चाहे सम्पूर्ण संसार ही उनका वैरी क्यों न हो जाता, उनका कभी बाल बाँका कैसे हो सकता था? किंतु नीच पुरुष अपनी नीचता से बाज थोड़े ही आते हैं। रामचन्द्र खाँ ने एक अत्यन्त ही सुन्दरी षोडशवर्षीया वेश्या को इनके भजन में भंग करने के लिये भेजा। वह रूपगर्विता वेश्या भी इन्हें पतित करने की प्रतिज्ञा करके खूब सज-धज के साथ हरिदास जी के आश्रम पर पहुँची। उसे अपने रूप का अभिमान था, उसकी समझ थी कि कोई भी पुरुष मेरे रूप-लावण्य को देखकर बिना रीझे नहीं रह सकता। किंतु जो हरिनाम पर रीझे हुए हैं, उनके लिये यह बाहरी सांसारिक रूप-लावण्य परम तुच्छ है, ऐसे हरिजन इस रूप-लावण्य की ओर आँख उठाकर भी न हीं देखते।
अहो! कितना भारी महान त्याग है, कैसा अपूर्व वैराग्य है, कितना अद्भुत इन्द्रियनिग्रह है! पाठक अपने-अपने हृदयों पर हाथ रखकर अनुमान तो करें। सुनसान जंगल, हरिदास की युवावस्था, एकान्त शान्त स्थान, परम रूप-लावण्ययुक्त सुन्दरी और वह भी हरिदास से स्वयं ही प्रणय की भीख माँगे और उस विरक्त महापुरुष के हृदय में किंचिन्मात्र भी विकार उत्पन्न न हो, वे अविचल भाव से उसी प्रकार बराबर श्रीकृष्ण कीर्तन में ही निमग्न बने रहे। मनुष्य की बुद्धि के परे की बात है। वारांगना वहाँ जाकर चुपचाप बैठी रही। हरिदास जी धाराप्रवाहरूप से इस महामन्त्र का जप करते रहे-
हरे राम हरे राम राम राम हरे हरे।
हरे कृष्ण हरे कृष्ण कृष्ण कृष्ण हरे हरे।।
दिन बीता, शाम हुई। रात्रि बीती, प्रातःकाल हुआ। इसी प्रकार चार दिन व्यतीत हो गये। वारांगना रोज आती और रोज ज्यों-की-त्यों ही लौट जाती। कभी-कभी बीच में साहस करके हरिदास जी से कुछ बातें करने की इच्छा प्रकट करती, तो हरिदास जी बड़ी ही नम्रता के साथ उत्तर देते- ‘आप बैठें, मेरे नाम-जप की संख्या पूरी हो जाने दीजिये, तब मैं आपकी बातें सुन सकूँगा।’ किंतु नाम-जप की संख्या दस-बीस या हजार-दो हजार तो थी ही नहीं, पूरे तीन लाख नामों का जप करना था, सो भी उच्च स्वर से गायन के साथ। इसलिये चारों दिन उसे निराश ही होना पड़ा। सुबह से आती, दोपहर तक बैठती, हरिदास जी लय से गायन करते रहते-
हरे राम हरे राम राम राम हरे हरे।
हरे कृष्ण हरे कृष्ण कृष्ण कृष्ण हरे हरे।।
बेचारी बैठे-बैठे स्वयं भी इसी मन्त्र को कहती रहती। शाम को आती तो आधी रात्रि तक बैठी रहती। हरिदास जी का जप अखण्डरूप से चलता रहता-
हरे राम हरे राम राम राम हरे हरे।
हरे कृष्ण हरे कृष्ण कृष्ण कृष्ण हरे हरे।।
चार दिन निरन्तर हरिनामस्मरण से उसके सभी पापों का क्षय हो गया। पापों के क्षय हो जाने से उसकी बुद्धि एकदम बदल गयी, अब तो उसका हृदय उसे बार-बार धिक्कार देने लगा। ऐसे महापुरुष के निकट मैं किस बुरे भाव से आयी थी, इसका स्मरण करके वह मन-ही-मन अत्यन्त ही दुःखी होने लगी। अन्त में उससे नहीं रहा गया। वह अत्यन्त ही दीन भाव से हरिदास जी के चरणों में गिर पड़ी और आँखों से आँसू बहाते हुए गद्गदकण्ठ से कहने लगी- ‘महाभाग! सचमुच ही आप पतितपावन हैं। आप जीवों पर अहैतु की कृपा ही करते हैं। आप परम दयालु हैं, अपनी कृपा के लिये आप पात्र-अपात्र का विचार न करके प्राणिमात्र के प्रति समान भाव से दया करते हैं। मुझ-जैसी पतिता, लोकनिन्दिता और खोटी बुद्धिवाली अधम नारी के ऊपर भी आपने अपनी असीम अनुकम्पा प्रदर्शित की। भगवन! मैं खोटी बुद्धि से आपके पास आयी थी, किंतु आपके सत्संग के प्रभाव से मेरे वे भाव एकदम बदल गये।
श्रीहरि के सुमधुर नामों के श्रवणमात्र से ही मेरे कलुषित विचार भस्मीभूत हो गये। अब मैं आपके चरणों की शरण हूँ, मुझ पतिता अबला का उद्धार कीजिये। मेरे घोर पापों का प्रायश्चित बताइये, क्या मेरी भी निष्कृति का कोई उपाय हो सकता है, इतना कहते-कहते वह हरिदास के चरणों में लोटने लगी। हरिदास जी ने उसे आश्वासन देते हुए कहा- ‘देवि! उठो, घबड़ाने की कोई बात नहीं। श्रीहरि बड़े दयालु हैं, वे नीच, पामर, पतित- सभी प्रकार के प्राणियों का उद्धार करते हैं। उनके दरबार में भेद-भाव नहीं। भगवन्नाम के सम्मुख भारी-से-भारी पाप नहीं रह सकते। भगवन्नाम में पापों को क्षय करने की इतनी भारी शक्ति है कि चाहे कोई कितना भी घोर पापी-से-पापी क्यों न हो, उतने पाप वह कर ही नहीं सकता, जितने पापों को मेटने की हरिनाम में भक्ति है। तुमने पापकर्म से जो पैसा पैदा किया है, उसे अभ्यागतों को बाँट दो और निरन्तर हरिनाम का कीर्तन करो। इसी से तुम्हारे सब पाप दूर हो जायँगे और श्रीभगवान के चरणों में तुम्हारी प्रगाढ़ प्रीति हो जायगी। बस-
हरे राम हरे राम राम राम हरे हरे।
हरे कृष्ण हरे कृष्ण कृष्ण कृष्ण हरे हरे।।
इस महामन्त्र में ही सब सामर्थ्य विराजमान है। इसी का निरन्तर जप करती रहो। अब इस कुटिया में हम नहीं रहेंगे, तुम्ही इसमें रहो।’ उस वेश्या को ऐसा उपदेश करके महाभागवत हरिदास जी सीधे शान्तिपुर चले गये और वहाँ जाकर अद्वैताचार्य जी के समीप अध्ययन और श्रीकृष्ण का संकीर्तन में सदा संलग्न रहने लगे।
इस वारवनिता ने भी हरिदास जी के आदेशानुसार अपना सर्वस्व दान करके अकिंचनों का-सा वेश धारण कर लिया। वह फटे-पुराने चिथड़ों को शरीर पर लपेटकर और भिक्षान्न से उदरनिर्वाह करके अपने गुरुदेव के चरणचिह्नों का अनुसरण करने लगी। थोड़े ही समय में उसकी भक्ति की ख्याति दूर-दूर तक फैल गयी। बहुत-से लोग उसके दर्शन के लिये आने लगे। वह हरिदासी के नाम से सर्वत्र प्रसिद्ध हो गयी। लोग उसका बहुत अधिक आदर करने लगे। महापुरुषों ने सत्य ही कहा है कि महात्माओं का खोटी बुद्धि से किया हुआ सत्संग भी व्यर्थ नहीं जाता। सत्संग की महिमा ही ऐसी है।
इधर रामचन्द्र खाँ ने अपने कुकृत्य का फल यहीं पर प्रत्यक्ष पा लिया। नियत समय पर बादशाह को पूरा लगान न देने के अपराध में उसे भारी दण्ड दिया गया। बादशाह के आदमियों ने उसके घर में आकर अखाद्य पदार्थों को खाया और उसे स्त्री-बच्चे सहित बाँधकर वे राजा के पास ले गये, उसे और भी भाँति-भाँति की यातनाएँ सहनी पड़ीं। सच है, जो जैसा करता है उसे उसका फल अवश्य ही मिलता है।

Oh, the dog-eater is worse than that The name that is on the tip of your tongue is yours. They performed austerities and offered sacrifices to the noble Those who chant the name of Brahma said
Because of the core of whose little grace this name-form whole world exists, whose Trigunatmika Prakriti stops all its work by the mere breaking of the brow, what can poor imperfect language describe the name-greatness of that Supreme Lord of all universes? Can What cannot be done by chanting the name of Hari. Which work cannot be accomplished by chanting the Lord’s name? Whose tongue has got the taste of the sweet name of Shri Hari, for him then what remains in the world? Yajna, yag, chanting, penance, meditation, worship, devotion, yoga, samadhi all result in love in the name of the Lord, if by doing these deeds there is no love in the name of the Lord, then these deeds should be considered in vain. The ultimate and best result of all these activities is to have faith in the name of the Lord. The end is only the name of the Lord, and all actions are only its means. Country, time, character, caste, character, time-untimely, good-bad, all these things are not considered in chanting the name. In whatever condition you are, wherever you are, whatever caste you are in, in whatever condition you are, you can chant the melodious names of Sri Hari at all times and at all times. By chanting the name, even the most sinful person becomes the most pure, the most lowly person is considered to be worshipable, the smallest person becomes the best and the worst person becomes a great devotee of the Lord. . Kabirdas ji says-
Naam japat kushti bhalo, chui-chui girai jo cham. Of what use is the Kanchan body, where Ram is not the face.
Bhagatgraganya Mahatma Haridas ji, even after being born in Yavan-kul, became the morning memorial of Bhagwad devotee Vaishnavas by the influence of Bhagwannaam. This Mahatma had supernatural loyalty in the name of God. Mahatma Haridas ji was born in a village named ‘Budan’ under Yashohar district of Bengal. He was a Muslim by caste. It is known that in his childhood, his parents had made him mother-fatherless and became alokagami, that’s why he left his house from childhood and started wandering continuously chanting Harinam. There were some auspicious rites in the previous birth, there was a unique grace of God, that’s why even after being born in a Muslim dynasty, he naturally got faith in the name of God. God has said many times- ‘Yasyahamnugrihnami Harishye Taddhanam Shanai:’ That is, the one whom I take refuge in My mercy, first of all I slowly abduct everything. He doesn’t let any kind of money remain with him to call his own.
First of all, this was a great grace of God on him. He didn’t even have a wooden kamandalu to call his own. When hungry, he used to bring alms from the villages and whatever he got in alms, he used to eat it only once in twenty-four hours and kept chanting the name of God continuously. Leaving his home, he used to live alone in a deserted forest named Benapole near Vanagram by making a thatched hut. Due to their sharpness and effect, all the living beings there would experience a kind of supernatural peace. Whatever creature comes in front of him gets affected by his influence. He used to chant three lakh names of God day and night, that too not slowly, but very loudly. He used to chant the Lord’s name loudly so that all living beings become pure by listening to the holy names of the Lord. He used to consider the Lord’s name as the only means for the salvation of the soul. Due to this, his fame spread far and wide in a few days. People started coming from far and wide to see him. His fame became unbearable for the envious people of evil mind. They started hating him without any reason.
Among those jealous there was also a big landlord named Ramchandra Khan. He wanted to humiliate them in some way. He started thinking about reducing their increased fame to dust. Kamini and Kanchan – these are the two heavy temptations to make the sadhaks fall, of which the temptation of Kamini is considered to be the best. Ramchandra Khan decided to humiliate Haridas by the same temptation. But his Sai always used to protect him. Then even if the whole world becomes his enemy, how could he ever lose his hair? But lowly men rarely desist from their meanness. Ramchandra Khan sent a very beautiful sixteen-year-old prostitute to disturb him in his hymns. That proud prostitute also reached Haridas ji’s ashram with a lot of decorations, pledging to make them fall. He was proud of his appearance, he understood that no man can live without seeing my beauty. But for those who are engrossed in the name of Harinam, this external worldly beauty is very insignificant, such Harijans do not even raise their eyes to look at this beauty.
Hey! What a tremendous great renunciation, what a unique dispassion, what a wonderful control over the senses! Readers can at least guess by placing their hands on their hearts. The deserted forest, the youth of Haridas, the lonely quiet place, the beauty of supreme beauty and that too begged for love from Haridas herself and the heart of that disillusioned great man should not have the slightest disturbance, they continued to chant Shri Krishna Kirtan in the same way. Remain engrossed in me. It is beyond the intellect of man. Varangana went there and sat quietly. Haridas ji kept chanting this great mantra fluently-
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare. Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare.
Day passed, evening came. The night passed, it was morning. Four days passed like this. Varangana used to come everyday and used to return everyday. Sometimes in the middle, she expressed her desire to talk something to Haridas ji, then Haridas ji would answer with great humility – ‘You sit, let the number of chanting my name be completed, then I will be able to listen to you. ’ But the number of chanting was not ten-twenty or thousand-two thousand, the whole three lakh names had to be chanted, that too with loud singing. That’s why he had to be disappointed all the four days. Coming from morning, sitting till afternoon, Haridas ji used to sing rhythmically-
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare. Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare.
The poor thing herself used to recite the same mantra while sitting. If she used to come in the evening, she would sit till midnight. The chanting of Haridas ji goes on continuously-
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare. Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare.
All his sins were destroyed by chanting Harinam continuously for four days. Due to the decay of sins, his intelligence changed completely, now his heart started cursing him again and again. Remembering with what bad feeling I had come near such a great man, she started feeling very sad inside herself. In the end he could not stand it. She fell at the feet of Haridas ji in a very humble sense and while shedding tears from her eyes started saying in a loud voice – ‘Great! Really you are the purifier of the sinful ones. You only show mercy to the living beings without any reason. You are the most merciful, for your grace, you show mercy to all living beings equally, without considering the deserving or ineligible. You showed your infinite mercy even on a degenerate woman like me, a public slanderer and a lowly woman with false intelligence. God! I had come to you with a wrong mind, but due to the influence of your satsang, my feelings changed completely.
My impure thoughts were reduced to ashes just by hearing the melodious names of Sri Hari. Now I am the refuge of your feet, save me the father of Abla. Tell me the atonement for my heinous sins, can there be any solution for my abstinence, saying this she started rolling at the feet of Haridas. Haridas ji assured her and said – ‘ Goddess! Wake up, there’s nothing to worry about. Sri Hari is very kind, He saves all kinds of creatures from the lowly, the palmer, the fallen. There is no discrimination in his court. The heaviest of sins cannot remain in front of the name of the Lord. The name of the Lord has such a great power to destroy sins that no matter how grave a sinner is, he cannot commit as many sins as there is devotion in the name of Harin. Distribute the money you have earned from your sinful deeds to the visitors and keep chanting Harinam. By this all your sins will be removed and you will have deep love for the Lord’s feet. enough-

All the power resides in this great mantra. Keep chanting this continuously. Now we will not stay in this cottage, you stay in it.’ After giving such advice to that prostitute, Mahabhagwat Haridas ji went straight to Shantipur and after going there he started studying near Advaitacharya ji and always engaged in chanting of Shri Krishna.
This Varvanita also donated her everything as per the order of Haridas ji and dressed like Akinchan. She started following the footsteps of her Gurudev by draping tattered rags on her body and living on alms. Within a short time the fame of his devotion spread far and wide. Many people started coming to see him. She became famous everywhere by the name of Haridasi. People started respecting him a lot. Great men have told the truth that even the satsang done by great men with a wrong mind does not go in vain. Such is the glory of satsang.
Here, Ramchandra Khan directly got the result of his misdeeds. He was punished heavily for the crime of not paying the full rent to the king at the appointed time. The king’s men came to his house and ate inedible things and after tying him along with his wife and children, they took him to the king, he had to endure many more tortures. It is true, whatever one does, he definitely gets the result.
