वृंदावन में बाँकेबिहारी जी मंदिर में बिहारी जी की काले रंग की प्रतिमा है। इस प्रतिमा के विषय में मान्यता है कि इस प्रतिमा में साक्षात् श्रीकृष्ण और राधाजी समाहित हैं इसलिए इनके दर्शन मात्र से राधा-कृष्ण के दर्शन के फल की प्राप्ति होती है।
इस प्रतिमा के प्रकट होने की कथा और लीला बड़ी ही रोचक और अद्भुत है इसलिए प्रत्येक वर्ष मार्गशीर्ष मास की पंचमी तिथि को बाँकेबिहारी मंदिर में बाँकेबिहारी प्रकटोत्सव मनाया जाता है।
बाँकेबिहारी जी के प्रकट होने की कथा-
संगीत सम्राट तानसेन के गुरु स्वामी हरिदास जी भगवान श्रीकृष्ण के अनन्य भक्त थे। वृंदावन में स्थित श्रीकृष्ण की रास-स्थली निधिवन में बैठकर भगवान को अपने संगीत से रिझाया करते थे। भगवान की भक्ति में डूबकर हरिदास जी जब भी गाने बैठते तो प्रभु में ही लीन हो जाते। इनकी भक्ति और गायन से रीझकर भगवान श्रीकृष्ण इनके सामने आ गये। हरिदास जी मंत्रमुग्ध होकर श्रीकृष्ण को दुलार करने लगे।
एक दिन इनके एक शिष्य ने कहा कि, आप अकेले ही श्रीकृष्ण का दर्शन लाभ पाते हैं, हमें भी साँवरे सलोने का दर्शन करवाइये।
इसके बाद हरिदास जी श्रीकृष्ण की भक्ति में डूबकर भजन गाने लगे। राधा-कृष्ण की युगल जोड़ी प्रकट हुई और अचानक हरिदास के स्वर में बदलाव आ गया और गाने लगे –
भाई री सहज जोरी प्रकट भई,
जुरंग की गौर स्याम घन दामिनी जैसे।
प्रथम है हुती अब हूँ आगे हूँ रहि है न टरि है तैसे।
अंग-अंग की उजकाई सुघराई चतुराई सुंदरता ऐसे।
श्री हरिदास के स्वामी श्यामा कुँज बिहारी सम वैसे वैसे।
श्रीकृष्ण और राधाजी ने हरिदास के पास रहने की इच्छा प्रकट की।
हरिदास जी ने कृष्णजी से कहा कि प्रभु मैं तो संत हूँ। आपको लंगोट पहना दूँगा लेकिन माता को नित्य आभूषण कहाँ से लाकर दूँगा।
भक्त की बात सुनकर श्रीकृष्ण मुस्कराए और राधा-कृष्ण की युगल जोड़ी एकाकार होकर एक विग्रह के रूप में प्रकट हुई। हरिदास जी ने इस विग्रह को ‘बाँकेबिहारी’ नाम दिया। बाँके बिहारी मंदिर में इसी विग्रह के दर्शन होते हैं। बाँके बिहारी के विग्रह में राधा-कृष्ण दोनों ही समाए हुए हैं, जो भी श्रीकृष्ण के इस विग्रह का दर्शन करता है, उसकी मनोकामनाएँ पूरी होती हैं।
There is a black colored statue of Bihari ji in the Banke Bihari Ji temple in Vrindavan. It is believed about this statue that Shri Krishna and Radha are included in this statue, so only by seeing them one gets the fruits of seeing Radha-Krishna.
The story and the Leela of the appearance of this idol is very interesting and wonderful, so every year on the fifth day of the month of Margashirsha, the Banke Bihari manifesto festival is celebrated in the Banke Bihari temple.
The story of the appearance of Banke Bihari ji-
Sangeet Samrat Tansen’s guru Swami Haridas ji was an exclusive devotee of Lord Krishna. He used to woo God with his music while sitting in Nidhivan, the Ras-sthali of Shri Krishna located in Vrindavan. Whenever Haridas ji sat down to sing songs by being immersed in the devotion of God, he would get absorbed in the Lord. Lord Krishna came in front of him after being impressed by his devotion and singing. Haridas ji was mesmerized and started caressing Shri Krishna.
One day one of his disciples said that, you alone get the benefit of seeing Shri Krishna, let us also see the evening salon.
After this Haridas ji started singing bhajans by drowning in the devotion of Shri Krishna. The duet of Radha-Krishna appeared and suddenly Haridas’s tone changed and started singing –
Bhai Ri Sahaj Jori appeared, Like Jurang’s Gaur Siam Ghan Damini. The first is Huti, now I am ahead. Such is the lightness of the limbs, the cleverness of beauty. Shree Haridas’s Swami Shyama Kunj Bihari Sam anyway.
Shri Krishna and Radhaji expressed their desire to stay with Haridas.
Haridas ji told Krishna that Lord, I am a saint. I will give you a nappy, but from where will I bring the daily jewelery to the mother?
Hearing the words of the devotee, Shri Krishna smiled and the pair of Radha-Krishna became one and appeared in the form of a Deity. Haridas ji named this Deity as ‘Banke Bihari’. This Deity is seen in the Banke Bihari temple. Both Radha and Krishna are absorbed in the Deity of Banke Bihari, whoever sees this Deity of Shri Krishna, his wishes are fulfilled.
