एक शहर में एक अमीर सेठ रहता था। उसके पास बहुत पैसा था। वह बहुत फैक्ट्रियों का मालिक था।
एक शाम अचानक उसे बहुत बैचेनी होने लगी। डॉक्टर को बुलाया गया सारे जाँच करवा लिये गये। पर कुछ भी नहीं निकला। लेकिन उसकी बैचेनी बढ़ती गयी। उसके समझ में नहीं आ रहा था कि ये क्या हो रहा है । रात हुई, नींद की गोलियां भी खा ली पर न नींद आने को तैयार और ना ही बैचेनी कम होने का नाम ले।
वो रात को उठकर तीन बजे घर के बगीचे में घूमने लगा। घुमते -घुमते उसे लगा कि बाहर थोड़ा सा सुकून है तो वह बाहर सड़क पर पैदल निकल पड़ा।
चलते- चलते हजारों विचार मन में चल रहे थे। अब वो घर से बहुत दूर निकल आया था। और थकान की वजह से वो एक चबूतरे पर बैठ गया। उसे थोड़ी शान्ति मिली तो वह आराम से बैठ गया।
इतने में एक कुत्ता वहाँ आया और उसकी चप्पल उठाकर ले गया। सेठ ने देखा तो वह दूसरी चप्पल उठाकर उस कुत्ते के पीछे भागा। कुत्ता पास ही बनी जुग्गी-झोपड़ीयों में घुस गया। सेठ भी उसके पीछे था, सेठ को करीब आता देखकर कुत्ते ने चप्पल वहीं छोड़ दी और चला गया। सेठ ने राहत की सांस ली और अपनी चप्पल पहनने लगा। इतने में उसे किसी के रोने की आवाज सुनाई दी।
वह और करीब गया तो एक झोपड़ी में से आवाज आ रहीं थीं। उसने झोपड़ी के फटे हुए बोरे में झाँक कर देखा तो वहाँ एक औरत फटेहाल मैली सी चादर पर दीवार से सटकर रो रही हैं। और ये बोल रही है — हे भगवान मेरी मदद कर और रोती जा रहीं है ।
सेठ के मन में आया कि यहाँ से चले जाओ, कहीं कोई गलत ना सोच लें। वो थोड़ा आगे बढ़ा तो उसके दिल में ख़्याल आया कि आखिर वो औरत क्यों रो रहीं हैं, उसको तकलीफ क्या है ? और उसने अपने दिल की सुनी और वहाँ जाकर दरवाजा खटखटाया।
उस औरत ने दरवाजा खोला और सेठ को देखकर घबरा गयी। तो सेठ ने हाथ जोड़कर कहा तुम घबराओं मत, मुझे तो बस इतना जानना है कि तुम रो क्यों रही हो।
वह औरत के आँखों में से आँसू टपकने लगें। और उसने पास ही गोदड़ी में लिपटी हुई उसकी 7-8 साल की बच्ची की ओर इशारा किया। और रोते – रोते कहने लगी कि मेरी बच्ची बहुत बीमार है उसके इलाज में बहुत खर्चा आएगा। और में तो घरों में जाकर झाड़ूपोछा करके जैसे-तैसे हमारा पेट पालती हूँ। मैं कैसे इलाज कराउ इसका ?
सेठ ने कहा— तो किसी से माँग लो। इसपर औरत बोली मैने सबसे माँग कर देख लिया खर्चा बहुत है कोई भी देने को तैयार नहीं। तो सेठ ने कहा तो ऐसे रात को रोने से मिल जायेगा क्या ?
तो औरत ने कहा कल एक संत यहाँ से गुजर रहे थे तो मैने उनको मेरी समस्या बताई तो उन्होंने कहा बेटा—तुम सुबह 4 बजे उठकर अपने ईश्वर से माँगो। बोरी बिछाकर बैठ जाओ और रो -गिड़गिगिड़ा के उससे मदद माँगो वो सबकी सुनता है तो तुम्हारी भी सुनेगा।
मेरे पास इसके अलावा कोई चारा नहीं था। इसलिए में उससे माँग रही थीं और वो बहुत जोर से रोने लगी। ये सब सुनकर सेठ का दिल पिघल गया और उसने तुरन्त फोन लगाकर एम्बुलेंस बुलवायी और उस लड़की को एडमिट करवा दिया। डॉक्टर ने डेढ़ लाख का खर्चा बताया तो सेठ ने उसकी जवाबदारी अपने ऊपर ले ली, और उसका इलाज कराया । और उस औरत को अपने यहाँ नौकरी देकर अपने बंगले के सर्वेन्ट क्वाटर में जगह दी। और उस लड़की की पढ़ाई का जिम्मा भी ले लिया ।
वो सेठ कर्म प्रधान तो था पर नास्तिक था। अब उसके मन में सैकड़ो सवाल चल रहे थे।
क्योंकि उसकी बैचेनी तो उस वक्त ही खत्म हो गयी थी जब उसने एम्बुलेंस को बुलवाया था। वह यह सोच रहा था कि आखिर कौन सी ताकत है जो मुझे वहाँ तक खींच ले गयीं ? क्या यहीं ईश्वर हैं ? और यदि ये ईश्वर है तो सारा संसार आपस में धर्म, जात -पात के लिये क्यों लड़ रहा है।
क्योंकि ना मैने उस औरत की जात पूछी और ना ही ईश्वर ने जात -पात देखी । बस ईश्वर ने तो उसका दर्द देखा और मुझे इतना घुमाकर उस तक पहुंचा दिया । अब सेठ समझ चुका था कि कर्म के साथ सेवा भी कितनी जरूरी है क्योंकि इतना सुकून उसे जीवन में कभी भी नहीं मिला था।
तो दोस्तों मानव और प्राणी सेवा का धर्म ही असली इबादत या भक्ति हैं। यदि ईश्वर की कृपा या रहमत पाना चाहते हो तो इंसानियत अपना लो और समय-समय पर उन सबकी मदद करो जो लाचार या बेबस है । क्योंकि ईश्वर इन्हीं के आस-पास रहता हैं।
There lived a rich Seth in a city. He had lots of money. He was the owner of many factories.
One evening suddenly he started feeling very restless. The doctor was called, all the tests were done. But nothing came out. But his restlessness increased. He didn’t understand what was happening. It was night, I ate sleeping pills, but I am neither ready to sleep nor take the name of less restlessness. He got up in the night and started walking in the garden of the house at three o’clock. While roaming around, he felt that there was a little peace outside, so he started walking on the road outside. Thousands of thoughts were running in my mind while walking. Now he had come far away from home. And due to fatigue, he sat on a platform. When he got some peace, he sat down comfortably. In the meantime a dog came there and took away his slippers. When Seth saw it, he picked up the other sandal and ran after that dog. The dog entered the huts built nearby. Seth was also behind him, seeing Seth coming closer, the dog left the slipper there and left. Seth heaved a sigh of relief and started wearing his slippers. Just then he heard the sound of someone crying.
When he went closer, the sound was coming from a hut. When she looked into the torn sack of the hut, she saw a woman crying next to the wall on a torn soiled sheet. And it is saying – Oh my God, help me and keep crying. It came to Seth’s mind that go away from here, don’t think anything wrong. When he moved a little further, a thought came in his heart that why the woman is crying, what is her problem? And he listened to his heart and went there and knocked on the door. The woman opened the door and was terrified to see Seth. So Seth said with folded hands, don’t panic, I just want to know why you are crying. Tears started dripping from the woman’s eyes. And she pointed to her 7-8 year old baby girl wrapped in her lap nearby. And started crying and crying that my daughter is very sick, her treatment will cost a lot. And I go to the houses and sweep our stomachs like this. How do I treat it?
Seth said– then ask someone. On this the woman said, I asked for the most and saw that the cost is a lot, no one is ready to pay. So Seth said then what will you get by crying on such a night? So the woman said that yesterday a saint was passing through here, so I told him my problem, then he said son— you wake up at 4 in the morning and ask your God. Sit down on a sack and ask him for help by crying and pleading, if he listens to everyone, he will listen to you too.
I had no choice but to. So I was asking her and she started crying very loudly. Hearing all this, Seth’s heart melted and he immediately called and called an ambulance and got the girl admitted. When the doctor told the cost of one and a half lakhs, Seth took the responsibility on himself, and got him treated. And by giving that woman a job here, she gave a place in the servant quarter of her bungalow. And also took the responsibility of education of that girl.
That Seth was karma-oriented but an atheist. Now hundreds of questions were running in his mind. Because his restlessness was over when he had called an ambulance. He was thinking that what is the force that pulled me there? Is there God here? And if this is God then why is the whole world fighting among themselves for religion, caste and caste.
Because neither I asked the caste of that woman nor did God see the caste. Just God saw his pain and turned me around and brought him to him. Now Seth had understood how important service is along with work because he had never got so much peace in his life. So friends, the religion of human and animal service is the real worship or devotion. If you want to get the grace or mercy of God, then adopt humanity and from time to time help all those who are helpless or helpless. Because God lives around them.
