देवताओं का चिकित्सक भगवान धन्वंतरि की जयंती :

पुराण के अनुसार कार्त्तिक कृष्ण पक्ष त्रयोदशी तिथि में समुद्र मंथन के दौरान जब धन्वन्तरि प्रकट हुए, तब उनके हाथो में अमृत से भरा कलश था। आयुर्वेद के जनक भगवान धन्वन्तरि जी देवताओं के चिकित्सक होने के नाते उनको 'चिकित्सा के देवता' माने जाते हैं। इसलिए 'धन तेरस' त्योहार के साथ जुड़कर अबतक देशभर में "धन्वंतरि- जयंती" पालन किया जाता है।। भगवान धन्वंतरि जी रोग- कष्ट से मुक्ति दिलाने के लिए आयुर्वेद- ज्ञान को मानव जाति के साथ साझा किया था। इस कारण से उत्तम स्वास्थ्य- संबर्द्धन के लिए श्रद्धालु लोगों ने उनके शंख, चक्र, जलौका और अमृत कलशधारी चतुर्भुज मूर्ति या चित्र स्थापित कर, यथा विधि में पूजा करते आये हैं। पुराण के अनुसार इनके पिता दिर्घतम और पुत्र केतुमन हैं।।

धन्वंतरि पूजन मंत्र :

ॐ धन्वंतरये नमः॥
ॐ नमो भगवते महासुदर्शनाय वासुदेवाय धन्वंतरये अमृतकलशहस्ताय सर्वभयविनाशाय सर्वरोगनिवारणाय
त्रिलोकपथाय त्रिलोकनाथाय श्री महाविष्णुस्वरूपाय
श्रीधन्वंतरीस्वरूपाय श्रीश्रीश्री औषधचक्राय नारायणाय नमः॥
ॐ नमो भगवते धन्वन्तरये अमृतकलशहस्ताय सर्व आमय विनाशनाय त्रिलोकनाथाय श्रीमहाविष्णुवे नम:।। भावार्थ है-- "परम भगवान् को, जिन्हें सुदर्शन वासुदेव धन्वंतरी कहते हैं, जो अमृत कलश लिये हैं, सर्वभय नाशक हैं, सर्वरोग नाश करते हैं, तीनों लोकों के स्वामी हैं और उनका निर्वाह करने वाले हैं; उन विष्णु स्वरूप धन्वंतरी को नमन है।।"

धन्वंतरी स्तोत्र :

ॐ शंखं चक्रं जलौकां दधदमृतघटं चारुदोर्भिश्चतुर्मिः।
सूक्ष्मस्वच्छातिहृद्यांशुक परिविलसन्मौलिमंभोजनेत्रम्॥
कालाम्भोदोज्ज्वलांगं कटितटविलसच्चारूपीतांबराढ्यम्। वन्दे धन्वंतरिं तं निखिलगदवनप्रौढदावाग्निलीलम्॥

According to the Puranas, when Dhanvantari appeared during the churning of the ocean on Kartik Krishna Paksha Trayodashi Tithi, he had an urn filled with nectar in his hands. Lord Dhanvantari ji, the father of Ayurveda, is considered as the ‘God of Medicine’, being the physician of the gods. Therefore, in association with the festival ‘Dhan Teras’, till now “Dhanvantari-Jayanti” is observed across the country. Lord Dhanvantari ji had shared the knowledge of Ayurveda with mankind to get rid of diseases and sufferings. For this reason, devotees have been worshiping their conch shell, chakra, jaloka and nectar urn by installing a quadrilateral idol or picture for better health. According to the Puranas, his father is Durghatama and son Ketuman.

Dhanvantari Puja Mantra:

ॐ Dhanvantari Namah॥ O Lord, You are the great Sudarsana, Vasudeva, Dhanvantari, the hand of the nectar-pot, the destroyer of all fears, the reliever of all diseases O path of the three worlds, Lord of the three worlds, Sri Mahavishnu Swaroopa O Narayana, the form of Sri Dhanvantari, the wheel of medicine, Sri Sri Sri. Obeisances to the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Dhanvantari, who holds a pitcher of nectar, who destroys all diseases, who is the master of the three worlds, and who is the great Vishnu. The meaning is: “To the Supreme Lord, whom Sudarshan Vasudeva calls Dhanvantari, who holds the nectar urn, who destroys all fears, who destroys all diseases, who is the master of the three worlds and who maintains them; I offer my obeisances to that Vishnu form Dhanvantari ।।

Dhanvantari Stotra:

ॐ The four waves hold the conch, the wheel, the water-pot, the nectar-pot with beautiful arms. The subtle clean shadow of the heart, the robes, the glittering crown, the lotus-eyes. His body was bright like the ocean of time and he was dressed in copper garments I salute that Dhanvantari who plays with the fire of the forests of the whole forest.
