सुख भोगे जो कथा सुने विश्वास
पच्चीसवां अध्याय लिखे यह दास * तीर्थ में दान और व्रत आदि सत्कर्म करने से मनुष्य के पाप नष्ट हो जाते हैं परन्तु तू तो प्रेत के शरीर में है, अत: उन कर्मों को करने की अधिकारिणी नहीं है। इसलिए मैंने जन्म से लेकर अब तक जो कार्तिक का व्रत किया है उसके पुण्य का आधा भाग मैं तुझे देता हूँ, तू उसी से सदगति को प्राप्त हो जा। इस प्रकार कहकर धर्मदत्त ने द्वादशाक्षर मन्त्र का श्रवण कराते हुए तुलसी मिश्रित जल से ज्यों ही उसका अभिषेक किया त्यों ही वह प्रेत योनि से मुक्त हो प्रज्वलित अग्निशिखा के समान तेजस्विनी एवं दिव्य रूप धारिणी देवी हो गई और सौन्दर्य में लक्ष्मी जी की समानता करने लगी। तदन्तर उसने भूमि पर दण्ड की भाँति गिरकर ब्राह्मण देवता को प्रणाम किया और हर्षित होकर गदगद वाणी में कहा –
हे द्विजश्रेष्ठ! आपके प्रसाद से आज मैं इस नरक से छुटकारा पा गई। मैं तो पाप के समुद्र में डूब रही थी और आप मेरे लिए नौका के समान हो गये। वह इस प्रकार ब्राह्मण से कह रही थी कि आकाश से एक दिव्य विमान उतरता दिखाई दिया। वह अत्यन्त प्रकाशमान एवं विष्णुरूपधारी पार्षदों से युक्त था। विमान के द्वार पर खड़े हुए पुण्यशील और सुशील ने उस देवी को उठाकर श्रेष्ठ विमान पर चढ़ा लिया तब धर्मदत्त ने बड़े आश्चर्य के साथ उस विमान को देखा और विष्णुरुपधारी पार्षदों को देखकर साष्टांग प्रणाम किया। पुण्यशील और सुशील ने प्रणाम करने वाले ब्राह्मण को उठाया और उसकी सराहना करते हुए कहा – हे द्विजश्रेष्ठ! तुम्हें साधुवाद है, क्योंकि तुम सदैव भगवान विष्णु के भजन में तत्पर रहते हो, दीनों पर दया करते हो, सर्वज्ञ हो तथा भगवान विष्णु के व्रत का पालन करते हो। तुमने बचपन से लेकर अब तक जो कार्तिक व्रत का अनुष्ठान किया है, उसके आधे भाग का दान देने से तुम्हें दूना पुण्य प्राप्त हुआ है और सैकड़ो जन्मों के पाप नष्ट हो गये हैं। अब यह वैकुण्ठधाम में ले जाई जा रही है। तुम भी इस जन्म के अन्त में अपनी दोनों स्त्रियों के साथ भगवान विष्णु के वैकुण्ठधाम में जाओगे और मुक्ति प्राप्त करोगे। धर्मदत्त! जिन्होंने तुम्हारे समान भक्तिपूर्वक भगवान विष्णु की आराधना की है वे धन्य और कृतकृत्य हैं। इस संसार में उन्हीं का जन्म सफल है। भली-भांति आराधना करने पर भगवान विष्णु देहधारी प्राणियों को क्या नहीं देते हैं? उन्होंने ही उत्तानपाद के पुत्र को पूर्वकाल में ध्रुवपद पर स्थापित किया था। उनके नामों का स्मरण करने मात्र से समस्त जीव सदगति को प्राप्त होते हैं। पूर्वकाल में ग्राहग्रस्त गजराज उन्हीं के नामों का स्मरण करने से मुक्त हुआ था।
तुमने जन्म से लेकर जो भगवान विष्णु को सन्तुष्ट करने वाले कार्तिक व्रत का अनुष्ठान किया है, उससे बढ़कर न यज्ञ है, न दान और न ही तीर्थ है। विप्रवर! तुम धन्य हो क्योंकि तुमने जगद्गुरु भगवान विष्णु को प्रसन्न करने वाला कार्तिक व्रत किया है, जिसके आधे भाग के फल को पाकर यह स्त्री हमारे साथ भगवान लोक में जा रही है।

Thereupon he fell on the ground like a punishment and bowed down to the Brahman deity and said in a gleeful voice with joy –
O best of two! Today I got rid of this hell by your prasad. I was drowning in the sea of sin and you became like a boat to me. She was thus telling the brahmin that a divine plane appeared to descend from the sky. He was very bright and full of Vishnu-formed councilors. The virtuous and Sushil, standing at the gate of the plane, lifted the goddess and boarded the superior plane, then Dharmadutt looked at that plane with great surprise and prostrated upon seeing the councilors in the form of Vishnu. Virtuous and Sushil picked up the brahmin who bowed down and applauded him and said – O Dwijashrestha! Thank you, because you are always ready to worship Lord Vishnu, have mercy on the poor, are omniscient and observe the fast of Lord Vishnu. By donating half of the Karthik fast that you have performed since childhood till now, you have attained double virtue and the sins of hundreds of births have been destroyed. Now it is being taken to Vaikunth Dham. At the end of this birth you too will go to Vaikunth Dham of Lord Vishnu with your two women and you will attain liberation. Dharmadutt! Those who worship Lord Vishnu with devotion like you are blessed and grateful. His birth in this world is successful. What does Lord Vishnu not give to the incarnate beings after worshiping them well? He had installed the son of Uttanapada on the Dhruvapad in the past. By mere remembrance of their names, all living beings attain salvation. In the past, Gajraj, who was possessive, was freed from remembering his names.
There is no yajna, no charity, and no pilgrimage greater than the one you have performed since birth to satisfy Lord Vishnu. Vipravar! Blessed are you because you have observed the Kartik fast, which pleases Jagadguru Lord Vishnu, after getting the fruit of half of which this woman is going with us to the Lord’s world.
