भाव को सम्मान

एक महात्मा जी भक्ति कथाएं सुनाते थे. उनका अंदाज बड़ा सुंदर था औऱ वाणी में ओज था इसलिए उनका प्रवचन सुनने वालों की बड़ी भीड़ होती।उनकी ख्याति दूर-दूर तक हो गई. एक सेठ जी ने भी ख्याति सुनी दान-धर्म-प्रवचन में रूचि रखते थे इसलिए वह भी पहुंचे.

एक दिन उन्होंने अपना वेष बदल रखा था. मैले-कुचैले पहन लिए जैसे कोई मेहनत कश मजदूर हो।प्रतिदिन प्रवचन में आकर वह एक कोने में बैठ जाते और चुपचाप सुनते. प्रवचन में आने वाला एक व्यक्ति कई दिनों बाद आया.
महात्मा जी के पूछने पर बताया कि उसका घर जलकर राख हो गया. उसके पास रहने को घर नहीं है।महात्मा जी ने सबसे कहा- ईश्वर ने कोप किया. वह आपकी परीक्षा लेना चाहते है कि क्या आप अपने साथी की सहायता करेंगे. वह आपकी परीक्षा ले रहे हैं इसलिए जो बन पड़े, सहायता करें।एक चादर घुमाई गई. सबने कुछ न कुछ पैसे डाले. मैले कपड़े में बैठे सेठ ने 10 हजार रूपए दिए. सबकी आंखें फटी रह गईं. वे तो उससे कोई उम्मीद ही नहीं रख रहे थे।सब समझते थे कि वह कंगाल और नीच पुरुष है जो अपनी हैसियत अनुसार पीछे बैठता है. सबने उसके दानशीलता की बड़ी प्रशंसा की. उसके बारे में सब जान चुके थे।

अगले दिन सेठ फिर से उसी तरह मैले कपड़ों में आया और स्वभाव अनुसार पीछे बैठ गया. सब खड़े हो गए और उसे आगे बैठने के लिए स्थान देकर प्रार्थना की पर सेठ ने मना कर दिया।फिर महात्मा जी बोले- सेठ जी आप यहां आएं, मेरे पास बैठिए. आपका स्थान पीछे नहीं।*

सेठ ने उत्तर दिया- सच में संसार में धन की ही पूजा है. आम लोगों की भावनाएं तो भौतिकता से जुड़ी होंगी लेकिन महात्मा जी आप तो संत है. मैले कपड़े वाले को अपने पास बिठाने की आपको तभी सूझी जब मेरे धनी होने का पता चला।

“”माया को माया मिले, कर-कर लंबे हाथ।
तुलसीदास गरीब की, कोई न पूछे बात।।””

महात्मा जी आप माया के प्रभाव में मुझे अपना रहे हैं. क्या यह सत्य है या कोई और कारण है
महात्मा जी बोले- आपको समझने में फेर हुआ है. मैं यह सम्मान आपके धन के प्रभाव में नहीं दे रहा. जरूरत मंद के प्रति आपके त्याग के भाव को दे रहा हूँ।
संतमत विचार-धन तो लोगों के पास होता ही है, दान का भाव नहीं होता. यह उस भाव को सम्मान है।

A Mahatma ji used to tell devotional stories. His style was very beautiful and there was power in his speech, so there would be a large crowd of people listening to his discourses. His fame became far and wide. A Seth ji also heard fame and was interested in charity-discourse, so he also reached.

One day he changed his disguise. He wore untidy clothes as if he was a laborer. Coming to his discourses every day, he would sit in a corner and listen silently. A person who came to the discourse came several days later. On being asked by Mahatma ji, he told that his house was burnt to ashes. He does not have a house to live in. Mahatma ji told everyone – God got angry. He wants to test you whether you will help your partner. He is testing you, so do whatever you can to help. A sheet was rolled. Everyone put some money or the other. Sitting in dirty clothes, Seth gave 10 thousand rupees. Everyone’s eyes were torn apart. They were not keeping any hope from him. Everyone understood that he is a poor and lowly man who sits behind according to his status. Everyone praised his generosity very much. Everyone knew about him.

The next day Seth came again in the same dirty clothes and sat down according to his nature. Everyone stood up and prayed for him to sit in front, but Seth refused. Then Mahatma ji said – Seth ji, you come here, sit near me. Your place is not behind.*

Seth replied- Truly the only worship of wealth is in the world. The feelings of common people will be related to materialism but Mahatma ji, you are a saint. You thought of making the person with dirty clothes sit with you only when I came to know about my richness.

“May Maya be blessed with long arms. Tulsidas is of the poor, no one should ask.

Mahatma ji, you are adopting me under the influence of Maya. is this true or is there some other reason Mahatma ji said – There has been a change in understanding you. I am not giving this honor because of your money. I am giving your sense of sacrifice towards the needy. Santmat thoughts – money is only with the people, there is no sense of charity. It’s an honor to that sentiment.
