जब रावण की सेना को हरा कर और सीता जी को लेकर श्री राम चन्द्र जी वापस अयोध्या पहुंचे – तो वहां उन सब के लौटने की ख़ुशी में एक बड़े भोज का आयोजन हुआ।
वानर सेना के सभी लोग भी आमंत्रित थे – लेकिन बेचारे सब ठहरे वानर ? तो सुग्रीव जी ने उन सब को खूब समझाया – देखो – यहाँ हम अतिथि हैं और अयोध्या के लोग हमारे स्वामी। तुम सब यहाँ खूब अच्छे से व्यवहार करना – हम वानर जाति वालों को लोग शिष्टाचार विहीन न समझें, इस बात का ध्यान रखना।
वानर भी अपनी जाति का मान रखने के लिये तत्पर थे, किन्तु एक वानर आगे आया और हाथ जोड़ कर श्री सुग्रीव से कहने लगा, ” प्रभो ! हम प्रयास तो करेंगे कि अपना आचार अच्छा रखें, किन्तु हम ठहरे बन्दर। कहीं भूल चूक भी हो सकती है – तो अयोध्या वासियों के आगे हमारी अच्छी छवि रहे – इसके लिये मैं प्रार्थना करता हूँ कि आप किसी को हमारा अगुवा बना दें, जो न सिर्फ हमें मार्गदर्शन देता रहे, बल्कि हमारे बैठने आदि का प्रबंध भी सुचारु रूप से चलाये, कि कहीं इसी के लिये वानर आपस में लड़ने भिड़ने लगें तो हमारी छवि धूमिल होगी।”
अब वानरों में सबसे ज्ञानी, व श्री राम के सर्वप्रिय तो हनुमान ही माने जाते थे – तो यह जिम्मेदारी भी उन पर आई।
भोज के दिन श्री हनुमान सबके बैठने वगैरह का इंतज़ाम करते रहे , और सब को ठीक से बैठने के बाद श्री राम के समीप पहुंचे, तो श्री राम ने उन्हें बड़े प्रेम से कहा कि तुम भी मेरे साथ ही बैठ कर भोजन करो। अब हनुमान पशोपेश में आ गये।उनकी योजना में प्रभु के बराबर बैठना तो था ही नहीं – वे तो अपने प्रभु के जीमने के बाद ही प्रसाद के रूप में भोजन ग्रहण करने वाले थे। न तो उनके लिये बैठने की जगह ही थी ना ही केले का पत्ता, तो हनुमान बेचारे पशोपेश में थे – ना प्रभु की आज्ञा टाली जाये, ना उनके साथ खाया जाये।
प्रभु तो भक्त के मन की बात जानते हैं । तो वे जान गये कि मेरे हनुमान के लिये केले का पत्ता नहीं है , ना स्थान है। उन्होंने अपनी कृपा से अपने से लगता हनुमान के बैठने जितना स्थान बढ़ा दिया (जिन्होंने इतने बड़े संसार की रचना की हो उन्होंने ज़रा से और स्थान की रचना कर दी)। लेकिन प्रभु ने एक और केले का पत्ता नहीं बनाया।
उन्होंने कहा ” हे मेरे प्रिय हनुमान। यूं मेरे साथ मेरे ही केले के पत्ते में भोजन करो। क्योंकि भक्त और भगवान एक हैं – तो कोई हनुमान को भी पूजे तो मुझे ही प्राप्त करेगा (यही अद्वैत यानी एकेश्वर वाद है।)।”
इस पर श्री हनुमान जी बोले, “हे प्रभु – आप मुझे कितने ही अपने बराबर बतायें, मैं कभी आप नहीं होऊँगा, ना तो कभी हो सकता हूँ – ना ही होने की अभिलाषा है। (यह है द्वैत, यानी जीव और ब्रह्म के बीच की मर्यादा) – मैं सदा सर्वदा से आपका सेवक हूँ, और रहूँगा – आपके चरणों में ही मेरा स्थान था – और रहेगा।तो मैं आपकी थाल में से खा ही नहीं सकता।”
जब हनुमान जी ने प्रभु के साथ भोजन करने से इनकार कर दिया।तब श्री राम ने अपने सीधे हाथ की मध्यमा अंगुली से केले के पत्ते के मध्य में एक रेखा खींच दी – जिससे वह पत्ता एक भी रहा और दो भी हो गया। एक भाग में प्रभु ने भोजन किया -और दूसरे अर्ध में हनुमान को कराया।तो जीवात्मा और परमात्मा के ऐक्य और द्वैत दोनों के चिन्ह के रूप में केले के पत्ते आज भी एक होते हुए भी दो हैं – और दो होते हुए भी एक है।
यानी द्वैत में अद्वैत। यही सृष्टि की व्यवस्था जो ब्रह्म और जीव के संबंध यानी द्वैत में अद्वैत को दर्शाती है। इसे समझ लिया तो जीवन से उद्धार तय है। जय श्री राम
When Shri Ram Chandra ji returned to Ayodhya after defeating Ravana’s army and taking Sita ji – a big feast was organized there in the joy of their return.
All the people of the monkey army were also invited – but all the poor remained apes? So Sugriva ji explained them very well – Look – here we are the guests and the people of Ayodhya are our masters. All of you should behave very well here – We should not consider the people of the monkey race to be without manners, take care of this.
The monkeys were also ready to honor their caste, but a monkey came forward and with folded hands started saying to Shri Sugriva, “Lord! We will try to keep our conduct good, but we remain monkeys. There may be a mistake somewhere. If we can have a good image in front of the people of Ayodhya, I pray that you make someone our leader, who not only guides us, but also manages our seating arrangements smoothly, that somewhere. For this reason, if the monkeys start fighting among themselves, then our image will be tarnished.
Now Hanuman was considered to be the most knowledgeable of the apes, and the most beloved of Shri Ram, so this responsibility also fell on him.
On the day of the banquet, Shri Hanuman kept arranging for everyone’s seating, etc., and after making everyone sit properly, reached near Shri Ram, Shri Ram told him with great love that you also sit with me and eat food. Now Hanuman has come to Pashopesh. His plan was not to sit at par with the Lord – he was going to take food as prasad only after his Lord had died. There was neither a place for him to sit nor a banana leaf, so Hanuman was in a poor mood – neither the command of the Lord should be disobeyed, nor should he eat with him.
GOD knows the mind of the devotee. So they came to know that there is no banana leaf, no place for my Hanuman. By his grace, he increased the seating area of Hanuman as he thought possible (who has created such a huge world, he has created a little more space). But the Lord did not make another banana leaf.
He said, “O my dear Hanuman. Just eat with me in my own banana leaf. Because the devotee and the Lord are one – then if anyone worships Hanuman, he will attain me (this is Advaita i.e. monotheism).”
On this Shri Hanuman ji said, “O Lord – no matter how much you tell me your equal, I will never be you, I can never be – there is no desire to be. ki dignity) – I am your servant forever and ever.
