कर्ण एक महान योद्ध और दानी राजा था। लेकिन कर्ण ने कुरुक्षेत्र में अपने भाइयों (पांडवो) को छोड़कर कौरवों का साथ दिया था।
कुंती और सूर्य का पुत्र था कर्ण, कुंती ने कर्ण को अविवाहित होते हुए जन्म दिया था। एक रथ सारथी ने कर्ण का पालन किया था, जिसके कारण कर्ण को सूतपुत्र कहा जाता था। अविवाहित माता से जन्म और रथ सारथि के पालन के कारण कर्ण को समाज में ना तो सम्मान मिला और ना अपना अधिकार मिला। कर्ण के सुतपुत्र होने के कारण द्रोपदी, जिसको कर्ण अपनी जीवन संगनी बनाना चाहता था, उसने कर्ण से विवाह से इंकार कर दिया था।
इन सब कारणों से ही कर्ण पांडवों से नफरत करता था और कुरुक्षेत्र युद्ध में कौरवों का साथ दिया था।
भगवान कृष्ण कर्ण की मौत का कारण बने। भगवान कृष्ण ने ही अर्जुन को कर्ण के वध का तरीका बताया था।
एक दानवीर राजा होने के कारण भगवान कृष्ण ने कर्ण के अंतिम समय में उसकी परीक्षा ली और कर्ण से दान माँगा तब कर्ण ने दान में अपने सोने के दांत तोड़कर भगवान कृष्ण को अर्पण कर दिए। इस दानवीरता से प्रसन्ना होकर भगवान कृष्ण ने कर्ण को वरदान मांगने को कहा। कर्ण ने वरदान रूप में अपने साथ हुए अन्याय को याद करते हुए भगवान कृष्ण के अगले जन्म में उसके वर्ग के लोगो के कल्याण करने को कहा। दूसरे वरदान रूप में भगवान कृष्ण का जन्म अपने राज्य लेने को माँगा और तीसरे वरदान के रूप में अपना अंतिम संस्कार ऐसा कोई करे जो पाप मुक्त हो।
वरदान देते हुए भगवान कृष्ण ने सारे वरदान स्वीकार कर लिए, परन्तु तीसरे वरदान से भगवान कृष्ण दुविधा में आ गए और ऐसी जगह सोचने लगे, जहाँ पाप ना हुआ हो। परन्तु भगवान कृष्ण को ऐसा कोई जो पाप मुक्त हो यह समझ नहीं आया। वरदान देने के वचन बद्धता थी इसलिए कर्ण का अंतिम संस्कार भगवान कृष्ण अपने ही हाथो से किया और कर्ण को दिए वरदान को पूरा किया। इस तरह दानवीर कर्ण का अधर्म का साथ देने के बावजूद भगवान कृष्ण को कर्ण का अंतिम संस्कार कर उनको वीरगति के साथ बैकुंठ धाम भेजना पड़ा था।

Karna was a great warrior and a charitable king. But Karna sided with Kauravas leaving his brothers (Pandavas) at Kurukshetra.
Karna was the son of Kunti and Surya, Kunti gave birth to Karna while unmarried. A charioteer followed Karna, due to which Karna was called Sutaputra. Due to his birth from an unmarried mother and upbringing as a charioteer, Karna neither got respect nor his rights in the society. Draupadi, whom Karna wanted to be his life partner, refused to marry Karna because he was the son of Karna.
For all these reasons, Karna hated the Pandavas and supported the Kauravas in the Kurukshetra war.
Lord Krishna became the cause of Karna’s death. It was Lord Krishna who told Arjuna the method of killing Karna.
Being a charitable king, Lord Krishna tested Karna in his last moments and asked for donation from Karna, then Karna broke his gold teeth in charity and offered them to Lord Krishna. Pleased with this charity, Lord Krishna asked Karna to ask for a boon. Remembering the injustice done to him in the form of a boon, Karna asked Lord Krishna to do welfare of the people of his class in his next birth. As a second boon, he asked for the birth of Lord Krishna to take his kingdom and as a third boon, someone who is free from sin should perform his last rites.
While giving the boon, Lord Krishna accepted all the boons, but with the third boon, Lord Krishna got confused and started thinking of a place where there was no sin. But Lord Krishna did not understand such a person who is free from sin. There was a commitment to give a boon, so Lord Krishna performed the last rites of Karna with his own hands and fulfilled the boon given to Karna. In this way, Lord Krishna had to perform the last rites of Karna and send him to Vaikunth Dham along with Veergati, despite supporting the unrighteousness of Danveer Karna. Glory to Sanatana Dharma
