4 साल से किशनगढ़ गाँव में बारिश की एक बूँद तक नहीं गिरी थी। सभी बड़े परेशान थे। हरिया भी अपने बीवी-बच्चों के साथ जैसे-तैसे समय काट रहा था।
एक दिन बहुत परेशान होकर वह बोला, “अरे ओ मुन्नी की माँ, जरा बच्चों को लेकर पूजा घर में तो आओ…”
बच्चों की माँ 6 साल की मुन्नी और 4 साल के राजू को लेकर पूजा घर में पहुंची।
हरिया हाथ जोड़ कर भगवान् के सामने बैठा था, वह रुंधी हुई आवाज़ में अपने आंसू छिपाते हुए बोला, “सुना है भगवान् बच्चों की जल्दी सुनता है…चलो हम सब मिलकर ईश्वर से बारिश के लिए प्रार्थना करते हैं…”
सभी अपनी-अपनी तरह से बारिश के लिए प्रार्थना करने लगे।
मुन्नी मन ही मन बोली-
भगवान् जी मेरे बाबा बहुत परेशान हैं…आप तो सब कुछ कर सकते हैं…हमारे गाँव में भी बारिश कर दीजिये न…
पूजा करने के कुछ देर बाद हरिया उठा और घर से बाहर निकलने लगा।
“आप कहाँ जा रहे हैं बाबा।”, मुन्नी बोली।
“बस ऐसे ही खेत तक जा रहा हूँ बेटा…”, हरिया बाहर निकलते हुए बोला।
“अरे रुको-रुको…अपने साथ ये छाता तो लेते जाओ”, मुन्नी दौड़ कर गयी और खूंटी पर टंगा छाता ले आई।”
छाता देख कर हरिया बोला, “अरे! इसका क्या काम, अब तो शाम होने को है…धूप तो जा चुकी है…”
मुन्नी मासूमियत से बोली, “अरे बाबा अभी थोड़ी देर पहले ही तो हमने प्रार्थना की है….
कहीं बारिश हो गयी तो…”
मुन्नी का जवाब सुन हरिया स्तब्ध रह गया।
कभी वो आसमान की तरफ देखता तो कभी अपनी बिटिया के भोले चेहरे की तरफ…
उसी क्षण उसने महसूस किया कि कोई आवाज़ उससे कह रही हो-
प्रार्थना करना अच्छा है। लेकिन उससे भी ज़रूरी है इस बात में विश्वास रखना कि तुम्हारी प्रार्थना सुनी जायेगी और फिर उसी के तरह काम करना….
हरिया ने फौरन अपनी बेटी को गोद में उठा लिया, उसके माथे को चूमा और छाता अपने हाथ में घुमाते हुए आगे बढ़ गया।
मित्रों, हम सभी प्रार्थना करते हैं पर हम सभी अपनी प्रार्थना में पूर्णतः विश्वास नहीं करते। और ऐसे में हमारी प्रार्थना बस शब्द बन कर रह जाती है…वास्तविकता में नहीं बदलती। सभी धर्मों में विश्वास की शक्ति का उल्लेख है, कहते भी हैं कि ” दृढ विश्वास हो तो इंसान पहाड़ भी हिला सकता है। और यही सत्य है, दशरथ मांझी के रूप में हमारे सामने इसका एक प्रत्यक्ष प्रमाण भी है।
इसलिए अपनी पूजा को सही मायने में सफल होते देखना चाहते हैं तो ईश्वर में विश्वास रखें और ऐसे दर्शाए करें मानो आपको प्रार्थना सुनी ही जाने वाली हो…और जब आप लगातार ऐसा करेंगे तो भगवान् आपकी ज़रूर सुनेगा!

Not even a drop of rain had fallen in Kishangarh village for 4 years. Everyone was very upset. Hariya was also passing time with his wife and children.
One day, being very upset, he said, “Hey, O Munni’s mother, at least come to the house of worship with the children…”
The children’s mother reached the house of worship with 6-year-old Munni and 4-year-old Raju.
Hariya was sitting in front of God with folded hands, he said in a hoarse voice hiding his tears, “I have heard that God listens to children quickly…Let us all together pray to God for rain…”
Everyone started praying for rain in their own way.
Munni spoke in her mind-
God, my father is very upset…you can do everything…let it rain in our village too…
After some time of worship, Hariya got up and started coming out of the house.
“Where are you going baba?” Munni said.
“Son, I am just going to the farm like this…”, Hariya said while coming out.
“Hey wait, wait… at least take this umbrella with you”, Munni ran and brought the umbrella hanging on the peg.
Seeing the umbrella, Hariya said, “Hey! What is the use of this, now it is about to be evening…the sun has already gone…”
Munni said innocently, “Hey Baba, we have prayed just a while back…. If it rains somewhere…”
Hariya was shocked to hear Munni’s answer.
Sometimes he looks at the sky, sometimes at the innocent face of his daughter…
At that very moment he felt a voice saying to him-
It is good to pray. But more important than that is to believe that your prayer will be answered and then act accordingly….
Hariya at once took his daughter in his arms, kissed her on the forehead and went on, twirling the umbrella in his hand. Friends, we all pray but not all of us believe completely in our prayers. And in such a situation our prayer becomes just words…does not turn into reality. The power of faith is mentioned in all the religions, it is also said that “If you have strong faith, a person can even move a mountain. And this is the truth, we have a direct proof of this in the form of Dasaratha Manjhi.
So if you want to see your worship truly successful, then have faith in God and act as if your prayer is about to be heard…and when you do this consistently, God will surely hear you!
