श्रीरामकृष्ण परमहंसदेवके अनुगतोंमें श्रीदुर्गाचरणजी नाग प्रायः नाग महाशयके नामसे जाने जाते हैं। इनके घरकी स्थिति अच्छी नहीं थी। पिता नौकरी करते थे साधारण सी और ये होमियोपैथिक दवा करते थे; लेकिन इनके अधिकांश रोगी गरीब होते थे। नाग महाशय उन्हें ओषधिके अतिरिक्त पथ्यके लिये पैसे भी प्रायः अपने पाससे दे देते थे। इनके पिता जिनके यहाँ नौकरी करते थे उस कुटुम्बकी एक महिलाको इन्होंने कष्टसाध्य रोगसेमुक्त किया। वे लोग सम्पन्न थे; नाग महाशयको उन्होंने कुछ धन देना चाहा, पर इन्होंने केवल बीस रुपये लिये । पिताको यह सब पता लगा तो वे असंतुष्ट हुए।
नाग महाशयने पितासे कहा- ‘पिताजी! चौदह रुपये हुए मेरी सात दिनकी फीसके और छः रुपये औषधका मूल्य। इस प्रकार बीस रुपये ही मेरे हकके हैं। हकसे अधिक लेना तो पाप है। मैं अधिक कैसे ले सकता था।’

Among the followers of Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansdev, Sri Durgacharanji Nag is often known by the name of Nag Mahasaya. The condition of his house was not good. Father used to do a simple job and he used to do homeopathic medicine; But most of his patients were poor. Nag Mahashay used to give him money from his own pocket for his diet apart from medicine. He cured a woman of the family whose father used to work here from a painful disease. They were rich; He wanted to give some money to Nag Mahasaya, but he took only twenty rupees. When the father came to know all this, he was dissatisfied.
Nag Mahashay said to his father – ‘Father! Fourteen rupees became my fees for seven days and six rupees the cost of medicine. Thus only twenty rupees are entitled to me. Taking more than what is entitled is a sin. How could I have taken more.’
