सच्ची नीयत

एक रातकी बात है। एक चोर किसी घरमें सेंध लगा रहा था। घरके मालिकने एक कुत्ता पाल रखा था। चोरको देखते ही वह जोर-जोरसे भूँकने लगा। चोरने उसको चुप करनेके लिये एक रोटीका टुकड़ा फेंक दिया।’मुझे तुम इस घूससे चुप नहीं कर सकते। यदि मैं भूँकना बंद करूँगा तो अपने मालिकके प्रति अकृतज्ञ सिद्ध होऊँगा और दूसरी बात यह है कि यदि इस समय भूँककर अपने मालिकको नहीं जगा देता हूँतो तुम सारी वस्तुएँ ढो ले जाओगे, मेरा मालिक किस प्रकार मेरा भरण-पोषण कर सकेगा।’ कुत्ता भूँकतारहा। चोरकी दाल नहीं गल सकी और कुत्तेकी ईमानदारीने मालिकके धनकी रक्षा की।

It is a matter of one night. A thief was breaking into a house. The owner of the house kept a dog. On seeing the thief, he started barking loudly. The thief threw a piece of bread to silence him. ‘You cannot silence me with this bribe. If I stop barking, I will prove ungrateful to my master and secondly, if I do not wake up my master by barking at this time, you will carry away all the things, how will my master be able to feed me.’ The dog barked. The thief’s pulse could not be melted and the honesty of the dog protected the money of the owner.
