पहले तोलो, फिर बोलो
एक बालक एक ज्ञानी पुरुषके पास गया और उनसे कहा- ‘देव! मैं बहुत पढ़ता हूँ, लिखता हूँ, फिर भी जाने क्यों मुझे ऐसा लगता है कि मैं मूर्ख या अज्ञानी हूँ।’ ज्ञानीने बालकसे पूछा- ‘क्यों; तुम्हें क्रोध आता है?’ बालकने उत्तर दिया- ‘नहीं।’ ज्ञानीने फिर पूछा ‘कभी थोड़ा-बहुत तो आता होगा क्रोध तुम्हें ?’ बालक बोला- ‘आता तो है, परंतु मैं उसे वशमें कर लेता हूँ और पचा लेता हूँ।’ ज्ञानीने कहा- ‘क्या तुम दूसरोंके दोष देखते हो?’ ‘नहीं।’ क्या तुम पहले सोचते हो, फिर बोलते हो ?’ बालकने कहा-‘हाँ, कई बार तो मैं चुप रहता हूँ, बोलता ही नहीं हूँ।’ ज्ञानी पुरुषने कहा ‘तुम कदापि मूर्ख नहीं हो। क्रोध केवल मूखौंको आता है। ऊपरसे वे उसे वशमें नहीं रखते। जो क्रोध आनेपर उसे पचा ले, वह संयमी होता है। दूसरोंका दुर्गुण देखनेवाला, बिना सोचे-समझे बोलनेवाला मूर्ख होता है; क्योंकि मूर्ख पहले बोलता है, फिर उसपर विचार करता है। जो बिना समझे बोलता ही नहीं, चुप रहता है, वह है बुद्धिमान्, जो बिना तोले बोलता ही नहीं, वह बोलनेवाला ज्ञानी होता है। इसलिये कहा गया है पहले तोलो, फिर बोलो। तुम मूर्ख नहीं विद्वान् हो बालक
तोलकर बोलनेवाला ज्ञानी होता है।
weigh first then speak

Anger comes only to fools. On top of that they don’t keep him under control. The one who digests anger when it comes, is self-controlled. The one who sees the bad qualities of others, speaks without thinking is a fool; Because a fool first speaks, then thinks over it. The one who does not speak without understanding, remains silent, he is intelligent, the one who does not speak without weighing, he who speaks is wise. That’s why it has been said, first weigh, then speak. You are not a fool, you are a scholar
