नियम पालनका लाभ

एक गाँवमें एक साधु आये। उन्हें पता लगा कि गाँवमें एक ऐसा व्यक्ति है जो किसी प्रकारके आचार विचार, व्रत नियमको मानता ही नहीं साधुने उसे बुलवाया और समझाया-‘जीवनमें कोई एक नियम अवश्य होना चाहिये। तुम कोई एक नियम बना लो ऐसा नियम जो तुम्हें सबसे सुगम जान पड़े।’

वह व्यक्ति बोला- ‘मुझसे कोई नियम पालन नहीं हो सकता; किंतु आप कहते ही हैं तो यह नियम बना लेता हूँ कि अपने घरके पास रहनेवाले कुम्हारका मुखदेखकर ही भोजन करूँगा।’

साधुने स्वीकार कर लिया। साधु चले गये और उसका नियम भी चलता रहा; किंतु एक दिन उसे किसी कामसे कुछ रात्रि रहते ही घरसे दूर जाना पड़ा। जब वह लौटा तो दो पहर बीत चुका था। कुम्हार गाँवसे दूर मिट्टी खोदने चला गया था बर्तन बनानेके लिये । परंतु उसे अपना नियम पालन करना था। वह कुम्हारकी खोजमें चल पड़ा; क्योंकि उसे भूख लगी थी और उस कुम्हारका मुख देखे बिना उसे भोजन करना नहीं था।उस दिन मिट्टी खोदते समय कुम्हारको अशर्फियोंसे भरा घड़ा मिला। उस घड़ेकी अशर्फियोंको वह गधेकी बोरीमें भर रहा था, रात्रिमें ले जानेके लिये, इतनेमें यह व्यक्ति पहुँचा। कुछ दूरसे ही कुम्हारका मुख देखकर यह लौटने लगा। कुम्हारको लगा कि इसने उसे अशर्फी भरतेदेख लिया है। दूसरोंसे यह न बता दे, इस भयसे कुम्हारने उसे पुकारा और घड़ेका आधा धन उसे दे दिया। एक साधारण नियमके पालनसे इतना लाभ हुआ, यह देखकर उसी दिनसे वह व्रतादि सभी धार्मिक नियमोंका पालन करने लगा । – सु0 सिं0

A monk came to a village. He came to know that there is such a person in the village who does not follow any kind of ethics, fasting rules, the monk called him and explained – ‘There must be a rule in life. You make a rule, such a rule which you find easiest.’
That person said – ‘ I cannot follow any rules; But as soon as you say, I make it a rule that I will eat only after seeing the face of the potter who lives near my house.’
The monk accepted. The monk went away and his rule also continued; But one day he had to go away from home for a few nights for some work. When he returned it was past two o’clock. The potter had gone away from the village to dig clay for making utensils. But he had to follow his rule. He went in search of the potter; Because he was hungry and didn’t want to eat without seeing the potter’s face. That day while digging the soil, the potter found a pot full of Ashrafis. He was filling the asharfis of that pitcher in the donkey’s sack, to be taken at night, in the meanwhile this person reached. Seeing the potter’s face from a distance, he started returning. The potter thought that he had seen him filling the Ashrafi. Fearing not to tell this to others, the potter called him and gave him half the money of the pot. Seeing that there was so much benefit from following a simple rule, from that very day he started following all religious rules like fasting. – Su 0 Sin 0
