बारहसिंगाका अनुभव
एक बारहसिंगा था। एक बार वह एक झरनेमें पानी पीने लगा। पानीमें उसने अपनी परछाई देखी। अपने लम्बे और डालियोंकी तरह फैले हुए सींग देखकर उसे अपनी सूरत बहुत मोहक लगी। उसने सोचा, मेरे सींग कितने खूबसूरत हैं। इतनेमें उसकी नजर अपने पैरोंपर पड़ी। उसे लगा कि अगर मेरी खूबसूरतीमें कोई कमी है तो वह सूखी लकड़ी जैसे इन पैरोंकी है।
इतनेमें उसने बन्दूककी आवाज सुनी। वह घबराया और जान लेकर भागा। कुछ ही देरमें वह बहुत दूर चला गया। उसने छुटकारेकी साँस ली। यह सोचकर कि आसपास कोई शिकारी नहीं है, वह बेखटके घास चरने लगा। इतनेमें अचानक पीछेसे शिकारी आता दिखायी पड़ा।
बारहसिंगा तो हक्का-बक्का होकर भागा। चौकड़ियाँ भरता हुआ वह बढ़ा जा रहा था। घबराहटके मारे भागता दौड़ता हुआ वह जटाओंवाले एक बरगदके नीचे जा पहुँचा। संयोग कुछ ऐसा हुआ कि उसके लम्बे सींग वरगदकी जटाओंमें उलझ गये, सींगोंको निकालनेके लिये वह जितना ही जोर लगाता, सींग जटाओंमें उतने ही अधिक उलझते जाते ।
इतनेमें शिकारी आ पहुँचा और उसने संकटमें फँसे बारहसिंगेको मार गिराया।
मरते-मरते उस बाखने मनमें क्या सच्चा ? अरे! जिन पैरो में निन्दा करता था, उन्होंने तो मुझे दुश्मनके पंजेसे बचा लिया था, लेकिन जिन सोपस मैं मोहित हुआ था, आखिर के ही मेरे प्राण लेनेवाले बने।
तात्पर्य यह है कि जो वस्तु, व्यक्ति अथवा गुण देखने में मोहक हो, आवश्यक नहीं कि वह सदैव उपयोगी ही सिद्ध हो। इसी प्रकार जो वस्तु हमें देखने में सामान्य लगती है, कई बार वही मौकेपर काम आती है।

There was a reindeer. Once he started drinking water from a spring. He saw his reflection in the water. Seeing his long and spreading horns like branches, he found his face very attractive. How beautiful are my horns, he thought. Meanwhile, his eyes fell on his feet. He felt that if there is any lack in my beauty then it is in these dry wood like feet.
Meanwhile, he heard the sound of the gun. He panicked and ran for his life. In no time he went far away. He breathed a sigh of relief. Thinking that there was no hunter around, he defiantly started grazing on the grass. Suddenly a hunter appeared from behind.
The reindeer ran away in a daze. He was increasing while filling squares. Running away in panic, he reached under a banyan tree with matted hair. Coincidentally it happened that his long horns got entangled in the cobwebs of the banyan tree, the more he tried to pull out the horns, the more the horns got entangled in the cobwebs.
Meanwhile, the hunter arrived and killed the deer in distress.
While dying, what was true in that heart? Hey! The feet which I used to blaspheme had saved me from the clutches of the enemy, but the soaps which I was infatuated with, became the last ones to take my life.
The meaning is that the object, person or quality that is attractive to see, it is not necessary that it will prove to be useful always. Similarly, the thing which seems normal to us, sometimes comes in handy on the same occasion.
