बेटेकी सीख
यह उन दिनोंकी बात है, जब न्यायाधीशके रूपमें श्रीमहादेव गोविन्द रानाडेकी ख्याति बढ़ती जा रही थी। कानूनी कार्यवाहीसे जुड़े कामोंमें वे किसीका भी हस्तक्षेप पसन्द नहीं करते थे। एक दिन उनके एक रिश्तेदार घर आये और उनके पिताजीको एक मुकदमेके बारेमें बताते हुए बोले-‘मेरा काम होना ही चाहिये।’
रिश्तेदारकी बात सुनकर रानाडे चुप रहे। उन्हें चुप देखकर वे बोले-‘यदि अभी आप व्यस्त हैं तो मैं फिर कभी आकर आपको अपने सभी दस्तावेज दिखा दूंगा।’ इसके बाद वे चले गये। उनके जानेके बाद महादेव अपने पिताजीसे बोले-‘पिताजी। यहाँ हमारे बहुतसे रिश्तेदार तथा मित्र हैं। हमने उन्हें थोड़ी भी छूट दी तो आये दिन हर कोई अपने कामके लिये यहाँ आयेगा और अपने मुकदमेमें जीतके लिये मुझपर किसी-न-किसी तरहका दबाव डालेगा। अगर हम एक बार इस दलदलमें गिरे तो फिर उलझते चले जायेंगे। किसी भी मुकदमेसे सम्बन्धित व्यक्तिसे घरपर न मिलने तथा उससे व्यक्तिगत बातचीत न करनेका मैंने संकल्प लिया है और न्यायमें सत्यका पक्ष लेना ही मेरा परम कर्तव्य है। मेरे पिता होनेके नाते आप मुझे ईमानदारी, कर्तव्य और जिम्मेदारीसे काम करनेकी प्रेरणा दें, न कि परिचितोंके कामोंको आँख मूँदकर करनेकी ।’ यह सुनकर उनके पिताजी बहुत प्रसन्न हुए और बोले- ‘आजतक मैंने पिताद्वारा बेटोंको शिक्षा देते तो बहुत देखा है, लेकिन एक बेटेद्वारा पिताको जीवनकी इतनी बड़ी सीख देते पहली बार देखा । सचमुच मैं धन्य हूँ, तुम जैसा बेटा पाकर।’ इसके बाद उन्होंने कभी रानाडेके काममें हस्तक्षेप नहीं किया।
son’s lesson
It is a matter of those days, when Shri Mahadev Govind Ranade’s fame as a judge was increasing. He did not like anyone’s interference in the work related to legal proceedings. One day one of his relatives came home and telling his father about a case, said – ‘My work must be done.’
Ranade remained silent after listening to the relative. Seeing him silent, he said – ‘If you are busy now, I will come again sometime and show you all my documents.’ After that they left. After they left, Mahadev said to his father – ‘Father. We have many relatives and friends here. If we give them a little leeway then one day everyone will come here for their work and will put some kind of pressure on me to win in their case. If we fall into this quagmire once, we will keep getting entangled again. I have taken a pledge not to meet the person related to any case at home and not to talk to him personally and it is my ultimate duty to take the side of truth in justice. Being my father, you inspire me to work with honesty, duty and responsibility, and not blindly do the work of acquaintances.’ His father was very happy to hear this and said- ‘Till date I have seen many fathers teaching their sons, but for the first time I have seen a son giving such a great lesson of life to his father. I am really blessed to have a son like you.’ After this he never interfered in Ranade’s work.
