14] कुसंगका फल

प्रतिदिन कुछ बगुले आकर एक किसानके खेतकी फसल बरबाद कर जाया करते थे। इसे देखकर किसानने उन बगुलोंको पकड़नेके लिये खेतमें जाल बिछाकर रख दिया। बादमें उसने जाकर देखा तो बहुतसे बगुले उसके जाल में फँसे हुए थे और उनके साथ ही एक सारस भी फँसा हुआ था। सारसने किसानसे कहा, ‘भाई किसान, मैं बगुला नहीं हूँ। मैंने तुम्हारी फसल बरबाद नहीं की है, बल्कि मैं तो खेतीको नुकसान पहुँचानेवाले कीड़ोंको खाकर तुम्हें लाभ ही पहुँचाता हूँ। मुझे छोड़ दो। तुम विचार करके देखो कि मेरी कोई गलती नहीं है। जितने भी पक्षी हैं, मैं उन सबकी अपेक्षा अधिक धर्मपरायण हूँ। मैं कभी किसीका नुकसान नहीं करता। मैं अपने वृद्ध माता-पिताका अतीव सम्मान करता हूँ और विभिन्न स्थानोंमें जाकर प्राणपणसे उनका पालन-पोषण करता हूँ।’
इसपर किसान बोला, ‘सुनो सारस, तुमने जो बातें कहीं, वे सब ठीक हैं, उनपर मुझे जरा भी संदेह नहीं है। परंतु चूँकि तुम फसल बरबाद करनेवालोंके साथ पकड़े गये हो, इसलिये तुम्हें भी उन्हीं लोगोंके साथ सजा भोगनी होगी।’

14] Kusangka fruit
Every day some herons used to come and destroy the crop of a farmer’s field. Seeing this, the farmer spread a net in the field to catch those herons. Later he went and saw that many herons were trapped in his net and a stork was also trapped along with them. The stork said to the farmer, ‘Brother farmer, I am not a heron. I have not ruined your crop, rather I only benefit you by eating insects that harm your crops. leave me. You think and see that I am not at fault. I am more pious than all the birds. I never harm anyone. I respect my old parents very much and go to different places and take care of them with all my heart.’
On this the farmer said, ‘Listen stork, all the things you said are correct, I have no doubt about them. But since you have been caught with those who destroyed the crop, you will also have to be punished along with them.’
