योग वशिष्ठ में एक महत्वपूर्ण आख्यायिका आती है, लीला नाम की रानी के पति का देहावसान हो जाता है, पति के निधन से वह अत्यधिक दुःखी होती है। तब ऋषि नारद आकर कहते हैं- जिसके लिए तुम विलाप कर रही हो वे इसी तुम्हारे उद्यान में एक नया परिवेश धारण कर चुके हैं।
वे लीला को अन्तर्दृष्टि देते हैं तो वह देखती है कि उसके पति एक कीटक के रूप में विद्यमान हैं, यही नहीं वहां भी उनके पास कई रानियां हैं और वे उनमें आसक्त दिखे। वह जिनकी याद में धुली जा रही थी उसे उसकी सुध तक नहीं थी। लीला ने अनुभव किया कि यह माया, मोह और आसक्ति मनुष्य का नितान्त भ्रम और अज्ञान है और उससे भी बड़ा अज्ञान है- मृत्यु की कल्पना।
लीला को देवर्षि ने बताया कि एक जगत के भीतर दूसरा जगत और उसके भीतर तीसरा जगत, इसी तरह यह सिलसिला अनन्त काल से जारी है। एक सृष्टि के जीव दूसरी सूक्ष्म सृष्टि वाले जीवों को देख सकने में अक्षम हैं, पर साधना द्वारा विशिष्ट क्षमता अर्जित करके सूक्ष्मतम सृष्टियों में प्रवृष्ट कर उनमें निवास करने वाले सूक्ष्म जीवों का स्वरूप और व्यवहार देखा जा सकता है।
वास्तव में जीव चेतना का एक शरीर से दूसरे शरीर, एक जगत से दूसरे जगत में परिभ्रमण करती रहती है। जब तक वह सत्यलोक या अमरणशील या परमानन्द की स्थिति नहीं प्राप्त कर लेती तब तक यह क्रम चलता रहता है। लीला ने देखा कि प्रत्यक्ष स्थूल सृष्टि के भीतर ही एक और सूक्ष्म सृष्टि है। उसके पति वहीं सूक्ष्म सृष्टि में निवास कर रहे हैं।
उक्त आख्यायिका का तत्वदर्शन बड़े ही महत्व का है। महर्षि वशिष्ठ कहते हैं कि- जिस प्रकार केले के तने के अन्दर एक के बाद एक अनेक पर्तें निकलती चली आती हैं, उसी प्रकार एक सृष्टि में अनन्त सृष्टियों की रचना विद्यमान है।
संसार में व्याप्त प्रत्येक परमाणु में स्वप्न-लोक, छाया लोक और चेतन जगत विद्यमान है, उसी प्रकार उनमें प्रसुप्त जीवन, पिशाच गति तथा चेतन समुदाय की सृष्टियां ठीक इसी दृश्य जगत जैसी ही विद्यमान हैं।

An important story comes in Yoga Vashishtha, the husband of a queen named Leela dies, she is deeply saddened by the death of her husband. Then Rishi Narad comes and says – the one for whom you are lamenting has taken a new environment in this very garden of yours.
He gives insight to Leela and she sees that her husband is present in the form of an insect, not only that he has many queens there too and he seems to be infatuated with them. She didn’t even care about the one in whose memory she was being washed away. Leela realized that this illusion, fascination and attachment is the utter illusion and ignorance of man and even greater ignorance is the imagination of death.
Devarshi told Leela that within one world there is another world and within that there is a third world, this is how this process continues from eternity. The living beings of one world are unable to see the living beings of another subtle world, but by acquiring special ability through spiritual practice, entering the subtlest worlds, the form and behavior of the subtle living beings can be seen.
In fact, the soul keeps on roaming from one body to another, from one world to another. This process goes on till she attains the state of Satyaloka or immortality or bliss. Leela saw that there is another subtle creation within the apparent gross creation. Her husband is residing there in the subtle world.
The philosophy of the said legend is of great importance. Maharishi Vashishtha says that – Just as many layers come out one after the other inside the stem of a banana, in the same way the creation of infinite creations exists in one universe.
The world of dreams, the world of shadows and the conscious world are present in every atom in the world, in the same way the creations of dormant life, vampire movement and conscious community are present in them just like this visible world.
