दृश्यन्ते रथमारूढा देव्यः क्रोधसमाकुलाः।
शंख चक्रं गदां शक्तिं हलं च मुसलायुधम्।।१३।।
खेटकं तोमरं चैव परशुं पाशमेव च।
कुन्तायुधं त्रिशूलं च शार्ङ्गमायुधमुत्तमम्।।१४।।
दैत्यानां देहनाशाय भक्तानामभयाय च।
धारयन्त्यायुधानीत्थं देवानां च हिताय वै।।१५।।
नमस्तेऽस्तु महारौद्रे महाघोरपराक्रमे।
महाबले महोत्साहे महाभयविनाशिनि।।१६।।
त्राहि मां देवि दुष्प्रेक्ष्ये शत्रूणां भयवर्धिन।
प्राच्यां रक्षतु मामैन्द्री आग्नेय्यामग्निदेवता।।१७।।
दक्षिणेऽवतु वाराही नैर्ऋत्यां खड्गधारिणी।
प्रतीच्यां वारुणी रक्षेद् वायव्यां मृगवाहिनी।।१८।।
अर्थ-
ये सम्पूर्ण देवियाँ क्रोध में भरी हुई हैं और भक्तों की रक्षा के लिये रथ पर बैठी दिखायी देती हैं। ये शंख, चक्र, गदा, शक्ति, हल, और मूसल, खेटक और तोमर, परशु तथा पाश, कुन्त और त्रिशूल एवं उत्तम शार्ङ्गधनुष आदि अस्त्र-शस्त्र अपने हाथों में धारण करती हैं। दैत्यों के शरीर का नाश करना, भक्तों को अभयदान देना और देवताओं का कल्याण करना- यही उनके शस्त्र- धारण का उद्देश्य है।
कवच आरम्भ करने के पहले इस प्रकार प्रार्थना करनी चाहिये- महान् रौद्ररूप, अत्यंत घोर पराक्रम, महान् बल और महान् उत्साहवाली देवि ! तुम महान् भय का नाश करनेवाली हो, तुम्हें नमस्कार है।
तुम्हारी ओर देखना भी कठिन है। शत्रुओं का भय बढ़ानेवाली जगदम्बिके ! मेरी रक्षा करो। पूर्व दिशा में ऐन्द्री (इंद्रशक्ति) मेरी रक्षा करें। अग्निकोण में अग्निशक्ति, दक्षिण दिशा में वाराही तथा नैर्ऋत्यकोण में खड्गधारी मेरी रक्षा करें। पश्चिम दिशा में वारूणी और वायव्यकोण में मृग पर सवारी करनेवाली देवी मेरी रक्षा करें।

For the destruction of the bodies of the demons and for the fearlessness of the devotees. They thus hold weapons for the welfare of the gods.
“Obeisances to you who are very fierce and of great dreadful prowess O mighty and very enthusiastic, destroyer of great fear.
Save me, O goddess, invisible, increasing the fear of my enemies. May Indra protect me in the east and may the goddess of fire protect me in the south.
May Varaha holding a sword protect me in the south and in the southwest Varuni should protect the west and Mrigavahini should protect the northwest.
Meaning- All these goddesses are full of anger and are seen sitting on the chariot to protect the devotees. She holds conch, chakra, mace, shakti, plough, and pestle, khetak and tomar, parshu and pash, kunt and trishul and perfect sharngdhanush etc. in her hands. To destroy the bodies of the demons, to give refuge to the devotees and to do welfare of the deities – this is the purpose of their arms.
Before starting the Kavach, one should pray in this way – Goddess with great ferocity, extreme prowess, great strength and great enthusiasm! You are the destroyer of great fear, salutations to you.
It’s hard to even look at you. Jagdambike who instills fear in the enemies! protect me. May Aindri (Indrashakti) protect me in the east. Let Agnishakti in the fire angle, Varahi in the south and Khadgadhari in the southwest protect me. May Varuni in the west and the goddess who rides on a deer protect me in the north.
