भगवान् शिव से बड़ा कोई भगवान विष्णु का भक्त नहीं और भगवान् विष्णु से बड़ा कोई शिव का भक्त नहीं है, इसलिये भगवान् शिव सबसे बड़े वैष्णव और भगवान विष्णु सबसे बड़े शैव कहलाते हैं।
नौ साल के छोटे बालरूप में जब कृष्ण जी ने महारास का उद्घोष किया तो वृन्दावन में पूरे ब्रह्माण्ड के तपस्वी प्राणियों में भयंकर हलचल मच गयी कि काश हमें भी इस महारास में शामिल होने का मौका मिल जाय।
दूर दूर से गोपियाँ जो की पूर्व जन्म में एक से बढ़कर एक ऋषि, मुनि, तपस्वी, योगी, भक्त थे, महारास में शामिल होने के लिए आतुरता से दौड़ें आये, महारास में शामिल होने वालों की योग्यता को परखने की जिम्मेदारी थी, श्री ललिता सखी की, जो स्वयं श्री राधाजी की प्राणप्रिय सखी थीं और उन्ही की स्वरूपा भी थीं।
हमेशा एकान्त में रहकर कठोर तपस्या करने वाले भगवान् शिव को जब पता चला की श्री कृष्ण महारास शुरू करने जा रहें हैं तो वो भी अत्यन्त खुश होकर, तुरन्त अपनी तपस्या छोड़ पहुंचे श्री वृन्दावन धाम और बड़े आराम से सभी गोपियों के साथ रास स्थल में प्रवेश करने लगे, पर द्वार पर ही उन्हें श्री ललिता सखी ने रोक दिया और बोली कि हे महाप्रभु, रास में सम्मिलित होने के लिए स्त्रीत्व जरूरी है।
तब भोलेनाथ ने तुरन्त कहा की ठीक है तो हमें स्त्री बना दो, तब ललिता सखी ने भोलेनाथ का गोपी वेश में श्रृंगार किया और उनके कान में श्री राधाकृष्ण के युगल मन्त्र की दीक्षा दी, चूँकि भोलेनाथ के सिर की जटा और दाढ़ी मूंछ बड़ी बड़ी थी इसलिए ललिता सखी ने उनके सिर पर बड़ा सा घूँघट डाल दिया जिससे किसी को उनकी दाढ़ी मूँछ दिखायी न दे।
महादेव भोलेनाथ के अति बलिष्ठ और बेहद लम्बे चौड़े शरीर की वजह से वो सब गोपियों से एकदम अलग और विचित्र गोपी लग रहे थे, जिसकी वजह से हर गोपी उनको बड़े आश्चर्य से देख रही थी, महादेव को लगा की कहीं श्री कृष्ण उन्हें पहचान ना लें, इसलिये वे सारी गोपियों की भीड़ में सबसे पीछे जाकर खड़े हो गए।
अब कृष्ण जुभी ठहरे मजाकिया स्वाभाव के और उन्हें पता तो चल ही चुका था की स्वयं भोले भण्डारी यहाँ पधार चुके हैं, तब उन्होंने विनोद लेने के लिये कहा कि महारास सबसे पीछे से शुरू किया जायेगा।
इतना सुनते ही भोलेनाथ घबराये और घूँघट में ही दौड़ते दौड़ते सबसे आगे आकर खड़े हो गये, पर जैसे ही वो आगे आये वैसे ही श्री कृष्ण ने कहा की अब महारास सबसे आगे से शुरू होगा।
तब महादेव फिर दौड़कर पीछे पहुचें तो भगवान कृष्ण ने फिर कहा रास पीछे से शुरू होगा तब महादेव फिर दौड़ कर आगे आये, इस तरह कुछ देर तक ऐसे ही आगे-पीछे चलता रहा और बाकी की सभी गोपियाँ आश्चर्य से खड़े होकर श्री कृष्ण और महादेव जी के बीच की लीला देख रही थी।
वे यह सोच रही थीं कि ये कौन सी गोपी है जो डील डौल से तो भारी भरकम है, पर बार बार शर्माकर कभी आगे भाग रही है तो कभी पीछे और, जैसे लग रहा है भि कृष्ण भी इसको जानबूझकर हैरान करने के लिए बार बार आगे पीछे का नाम ले रहें हों, कुछ देर बाद श्री कृष्ण ने कहा कि महारास सबसे पहले इस चंचल गोपी से शुरू होगा जो स्थिर बैठ ही नहीं रही है।
यह कहकर कृष्ण जी ने भोलेनाथ का घूंघट हटा दिया और आनन्द से उद्घोष किया, ‘आओ गोपेश्वर महादेव!’ आपका इस महारास में स्वागत है, और उसके बाद जो महाउत्सव ऐसा हुआ की ऋषि-महर्षि भी हाथ जोड़कर नेति-नेति कहते रहे, इस महारास के महासुख को शब्दों में बयान नहीं किया जा सकता है, तब से आज तक भगवान् शिवशंकर वृन्दावन में गोपेश्वर रूप में ही निवास करते हैं।
वृन्दावन के गोपेश्वर महादेव मन्दिर में जहाँ उनका रोज शाम को गोपी रूप में नित्य रास के लिये श्रृंगार किया जाता है।
गोपेश्वर महादेव का दर्शन और इनकी इस कथा का चिन्तन करने से कृष्ण जी की भक्ति में प्रगाढ़ता आती है और इस कलियुग में भक्ति ही वो सबसे सुलभ तरीका है जो इस लोक के साथ परलोक में भी सुख प्रदान करता हैं। ।। नमो कृष्णाय- नम: शिवाय् ।।

There is no greater devotee of Lord Vishnu than Lord Shiva and there is no greater devotee of Lord Shiva than Lord Vishnu, that is why Lord Shiva is called the greatest Vaishnav and Lord Vishnu is called the greatest Shaivite.
When Krishna ji proclaimed Maharas in a nine -year -old child form, there was a fierce stir among the ascetic beings of the entire universe in Vrindavan that we wish we also get a chance to join this Maharas.
Gopis from far and wide, who were great sages, sages, ascetics, yogis and devotees in their previous lives, came running eagerly to join the Maharas. It was the responsibility of testing the abilities of those joining the Maharas, Shri Lalita. Of Sakhi, who was a dear friend of Shri Radhaji herself and was also her embodiment.
When Lord Shiva, who is going to start Shri Krishna Maharas, who is always in solitude by staying in solitude, he was very happy, immediately left his penance, Shri Vrindavan Dham and very comfortably entering the rasa site with all the gopis. Started doing, but at the door, Shri Lalita Sakhi stopped him and said, O Mahaprabhu, femininity is necessary to join Ras.
Then Bholenath immediately said that it is okay so make us a woman, then Lalita Sakhi adorned Bholenath’s gopi and initiated the couple mantra of Shri Radhakrishna in his ear, since Bholenath’s head and beard was very big Therefore, Lalita Sakhi put a big veil on her head so that no one can see her beard mustache.
Due to Mahadev Bholenath’s very strong and extremely tall and broad body, he looked like a completely different and strange Gopi from all the Gopis, due to which every Gopi was looking at him with great surprise. Mahadev felt that Shri Krishna might recognize him. Therefore, he stood at the back of the crowd of Gopis.
Now Krishna Jubhi was a funny nature and he had already come to know that Bhole Bhandari himself has come here, then he asked to take Vinod that Maharas will be started from the back.
On hearing this, Bholenath got scared and ran in his veil and stood at the front, but as soon as he came forward, Shri Krishna said that now Maharasas will start from the front.
Then when Mahadev again ran and reached behind, Lord Krishna again said that the Raas will start from the back, then Mahadev again ran and came forward, like this he kept running back and forth for some time and all the remaining Gopis stood up in surprise and looked at Shri Krishna and Mahadev. Was watching the leela between ji.
She was wondering which Gopi is this who is heavy and tall, but is running shyly, sometimes ahead and sometimes backward, and it seems as if even Krishna is deliberately moving forward again and again to surprise her. Taking the name backwards, after some time Shri Krishna said that the Maharasa will first start with this playful Gopi who is not sitting still.
Saying this, Krishna ji removed the veil of Bholenath and announced with joy, ‘Come Gopeshwar Mahadev!’ You are welcome to this Maharas, and after that the Mahaotsav that has been said that the sage-maharshi also kept saying Neti-Neti, the Mahasukh of this Maharas cannot be described in words, since then till today Lord Shivshankar in Gopeshwar in Vrindavan Reside in the form only.
In Gopeshwar Mahadev Temple of Vrindavan, where he is adorned every day for daily raas in Gopi form.
Darshan of Gopeshwar Mahadev and contemplation of this story deepens the devotion to Lord Krishna and in this Kaliyuga, devotion is the most accessible way which provides happiness in this world as well as in the next world. , Namo Krishnay – Namah Shivay.
