मीरा का मार्ग था प्रेम का, पर कृष्ण और मीरा के बीच अंतर था पाच हजार साल का। फिर यह प्रेम किस प्रकार बन सका।
प्रेम के लिए न तो समय का कोई अंतर है और न स्थान का। प्रेम एकमात्र कीमिया है, जो समय को और स्थान को मिटा देती है।
जिससे तुम्हें प्रेम नहीं है वह तुम्हारे पास बैठा रहे, शरीर से शरीर छूता हो, तो भी तुम हजारों मील के फासले पर हो। और जिससे तुम्हारा प्रेम है वह दूर चांद-तारों पर बैठा हो, तो भी सदा तुम्हारे पास बैठा है।
प्रेम एकमात्र जीवन का अनुभव है जहां टाइम और स्पेस, समय और स्थान दोनों व्यर्थ हो जाते हैं।
प्रेम एकमात्र ऐसा अनुभव है जो स्थान की दूरी में भरोसा नहीं करता और न काल की दूरी में भरोसा करता है, जो दोनों को मिटा देता है।
परमात्मा की परिभाषा में कहा जाता है कि वह काल और स्थान के पार है, कालातीत।
प्रेम परमात्मा है-इसी कारण। क्योंकि मनुष्य के अनुभव में अकेला प्रेम ही है जो कालातीत और स्थानातीत है। उससे ही परमात्मा का जोड़ बैठ सकता है।
इससे कोई अंतर नहीं पड़ता कि कृष्ण पाच हजार साल पहले थे। प्रेमी अंतराल को मिटा देता है। प्रेम की तीव्रता पर निर्भर करता है।
मीरा के लिए कृष्ण समसामयिक थे। किसी और को न दिखायी पड़ते हों, मीरा को दिखायी पड़ते थे। किसी और को समझ में न आते हों, मीरा उनके सामने ही नाच रही थी। मीरा उनकी भाव- भंगिमा पर नाच रही थी। मीरा को उनका इशारा-इशारा साफ था।
यह थोड़ा हमें जटिल मालूम पड़ेगा, क्योंकि हमारा भरोसा शरीर में है। शरीर तो मौजूद नहीं था।
कृष्णा ने स्वयं कहा है कि जो मुझे प्रेम करेंगे और जो मेरी बात को समझेंगे, कितना ही समय बीत जाए, मैं उन्हें उपलब्ध रहूंगा।
और जिन्होंने प्रेम नहीं किया, वे सामने बैठे रहे तो भी उपलब्ध नहीं थे।
शरीर समय और क्षेत्र से घिरा है। लेकिन तुम्हारे भीतर जो चैतन्य है, समय और और क्षेत्र का उस पर कोई संबंध नहीं है।
वह बाहर है। वह अतिक्रमण कर गया है। वह दोनों के अतीत है।
जिस कृष्ण को मीरा प्रेम कर रही थी, वे गा देहधारी कृष्ण नहीं थे। वह देह तो पाच हजार साल पहले जा चुकी।
वह तो धूल-धूल में मिल चुकी। इसलिए जानकार कहते हैं कि मीरा का प्रेम राधा के प्रेम से भी बड़ा है। होना भी चाहिए।
अगर राधा प्रसन्न थी कृष्ण को सामने पाकर, तो यह तो कोई बड़ी बात न थी। लेकिन मीरा ने पांच हजार साल बाद भी सामने पाया, यह बड़ी बात थी।
जिन गोपियों ने कृष्ण को मौजूदगी में पाया और प्रेम किया–प्रेम करने योग्य थे वे, उनकी तरफ प्रेम सहज ही बह जाता, वैसा उत्सवपूर्ण व्यक्तित्व पृथ्वी पर मुश्किल से होता है-तो कोई भी प्रेम में पड़ जाता।
लेकिन कृष्ण गोकुल छोड़कर चले गए द्वारका, तो बिलखने लगीं गोपियां, रोने लगा, पीड़ित होने लगीं। गोकुल और द्वारका के बीच का फासला भी वह प्रेम पूरा न कर पाया। वह फासला बहुत बड़ा न था। स्थान की ही दूरी थी, समय की तो कम से कम दूरी न थी।
मीरा को स्थान की भी दूरी थी, समय की भी दूरी थी; पर उसने दोनों का उल्लंघन कर लिया, वह दोनों के पार हो गयी।
प्रेम के हिसाब में मीरा बेजोड़ है। एक क्षण उसे शक न आया, एक क्षण उसे संदेह न हुआ, एक क्षण को उसने ऐसा व्यवहार न किया कि कृष्ण पता नहीं, हों या न हों। वैसी आस्था, वैसी अनन्य श्रद्धा : फिर समय की कोई दूरी-दूरी नहीं रह जाती। दूरी रही ही नहीं।
आत्मा सदा है। जिन्होंने प्रेम का झरोखा देख लिया, उन्हें वह सदा जो आत्मा है, उपलब्ध हो जाती है।
जो अमृत को उपलब्ध हुए हैं-
कृष्ण जब भी उन्हें प्रेम करेंगे, तभी उनके निकट आ जाएंगे। वे तो सदा उपलब्ध हैं, जब भी तुम प्रेम करोगे, तुम्हारी आख खुल जाती है।
