भगवान राम को भगवान शंकर का उपदेश
पद्मपुराण में १६ अध्यायों में भगवान् श्रीराम के प्रति भगवान् शंकर ने जो उपदेश किया है; वह ‘शिव-गीता’ के नाम से प्रसिद्ध है।
जिस समय पिता की आज्ञा प्राप्त कर भगवान् श्रीराम वन में पहुँचे, वहां पंचवटी में यति-वेष धारण कर रावण ने सीता का अपहरण किया। उस समय सीता के वियोग में अत्यन्त दुःखी श्रीराम जी लक्ष्मण के प्रति अपना दुःख प्रकट करके प्राण त्यागने के लिए तत्पर हुये। उसी समय अगस्त्य जी वहां पहुँचे, उन्होंने श्रीराम जी से कहा-
“हे राम ! तुम क्षत्रिय-कुल-भूषण हो, आपका अवतार तो दुष्टों का दमन करने के लिए हुआ है, शत्रुओं को दुष्टता का दण्ड देकर तुम्हें सीताजी को प्राप्त करना चाहिए। सीता को प्राप्त करने के लिए आप शिवाराधना करें। राम ! अनेकों जन्मों के शुभ-कर्मों से शिव-भक्ति प्राप्त होती है, तब निष्काम-भाव से नित्य-नैमित्तिक-कर्मों का अनुष्ठान होता है, उससे चित्त शुद्ध होता है, तब नित्यानित्य का विवेक और दोनों लोकों के भोगों से वैराग्य, पुनः षट्-सम्पत्ति, पुनः मुक्ति की तीव्र कामना, तब संन्यास, फिर श्रोत्रिय-ब्रह्मनिष्ठ गुरु की शरणागति, तब श्रवण-मनन-निदिध्यासन निर्विघ्न होने पर तब आत्मसाक्षात्कार, तब भी ज्ञानी का जबतक प्रारब्ध कर्म है; तबतक शरीर रहता है, पुनः जीवनमुक्ति की प्राप्ति होती है। प्रारब्ध-भोग के अनन्तर तीनों शरीरों को ज्ञानी यहीं छोड़कर कैवल्य मुक्ति पाता है।
अतः चारों पुरुषार्थों की सिद्धि के लिए श्री शंकर जी की आराधना करो, इस आराधना से प्रसन्न होकर प्रत्यक्ष श्रीशंकर जी के दर्शन और आशीर्वाद से रावण पर विजय प्राप्त करोगे। भगवान् शिव आशुतोष हैं, शीघ्र ही प्रसन्न होकर पर्वत के समान महापापों को भस्म कर देते हैं, अतः तुम मुझसे पार्थिव-तत्त्व की दीक्षा लेकर शिवाराधना करो। वे भक्तिपूर्वक दिये हुये पत्र- पुष्प- फल- जल आदि वस्तुओं को ग्रहण करते हैं, यदि जल भी न मिले तो केवल प्रणाम मात्र से ही प्रसन्न होते हैं। वैसे तो भक्तिपूर्वक दिये हुए जल मात्र को भगवान् प्रेम से ग्रहण करते हैं, किन्तु श्रद्धा- भक्ति- विश्वास से रहित वे तीनों लोकों को भी स्वीकार नहीं करते।”
तब श्रीराम ने कहा- “आप मुझे शिव-मन्त्र की दीक्षा दें।”
तब अगस्त्य जी ने श्रीराम जी को विधि-विधान से दीक्षित किया तथा सभी पापों को भस्म करने वाला विरजा होम किया। उनकी आज्ञा से रामजी ने सारे शरीर में भस्म लगाई, रुद्राक्ष धारण करके शिवजी का ध्यान करते हुये स्तुति करने लगे। अनुष्ठान की पूर्ति पर भगवान् शशांकशेखर पार्वती तथा गणों सहित प्रकट हुये। शिवजी ने भगवान् राम को विश्वरूप दिखाया, तब श्रीराम उनकी स्तुति करने लगे। स्तुति के अंत में रामजी कहते हैं-
“हे महाप्रभु ! यदि आप प्रसन्न होकर अपने भक्तों को इस लोक या परलोक की विभूति दे देते हैं अथवा पूरा लोक ही दे देते हैं तो यह आपकी विशेषता नहीं है, क्योंकि ये सब पदार्थ जड़, दुःखरूप एवं नाशवान है, परिणाम में जन्म-मृत्यु का महादुःख देते हैं, अतः हे प्रभु ! यदि आप मुझपर प्रसन्न हैं तो अपनी अनपायिनी अभेद भक्ति को ज्ञान सहित प्रदान कीजिये।”
स्तुति से प्रसन्न हुये श्री शंकर जी रामजी से बोले-
“मैं सम्पूर्ण विद्याओं का स्वामी हूँ, इसीलिए ईशान हूँ, मैं ही सर्व रूप हूँ, सर्वतोमुख, नेत्र, बाहु, चरणों वाला मैं अपनी भुजाओं से पृथ्वी-आकाश को व्याप्त करके स्थित हूँ। अपने हृदय में जो मेरा दर्शन करते हैं, उन्हीं को शान्ति प्राप्त होती है, बहिर्मुखी को नहीं। मैं ही कारणों का महाकारण हूँ, तुम मन की वृत्तियों को रोककर मुझमें लगाओ। जिसको प्राप्त न करके मन सहित वाणी लौट जाती है, वह आनन्दस्वरूप मैं ही हूँ। मुझको जानकर जीव भयभीत नहीं होता, मेरे वचनों में विश्वास करके मेरे ज्ञानी भक्त मेरा ध्यान करते हुए ज्ञान द्वारा मुक्ति प्राप्त करते हैं।
मैं अचिन्त्य शक्ति हूँ, बिना पैर के चलता हूँ, बिना हाथ के ही जगत् को रचता हूँ, बिना आंखों के देखता हूँ, बिना कानों के सुनता हूँ। मैं सबको जानता हूँ, कोई मुझे नहीं जानता। वेद के द्वारा जानने योग्य मैं ही हूँ, वेदान्त का कर्ता मैं ही हूँ। मुझमें पुण्य- पाप- जन्म- मृत्यु- दस इन्द्रियां- अन्तःकरण चतुष्टय- पंच महाभूत नहीं है। मैं निष्कल हूँ, बुद्धि रूपी गुफा में स्थित हूँ- ऐसा जानकर सत्-असत् से विलक्षण अनिर्वचनीय भक्त मेरे स्वरूप को प्राप्त होता है। राम ! इस प्रकार जो मुझे तत्त्व से जानता है, वह कैवल्य-मुक्ति प्राप्त करता है।” ।। जय शिवशंकर जय श्रीराम ।।
Lord Shankar’s preaching to Lord Rama
Lord Shankar has preached to Lord Shri Ram in 14 chapters in Padmapurana; He is famous as ‘Shiva-Gita’.
At the time when Lord Shri Ram reached the forest after receiving the orders of the father, Ravana kidnapped Sita by wearing Yeti-Vash in Panchavati. At that time, the very sad in Sita’s disconnection, Shri Ram ji was ready to give up his sorrow towards Lakshmana. At the same time Agastya ji reached there, he told Shri Ram ji-
“O Rama! You are a Kshatriya-Kul-Bhoomhana, your avatar is there to suppress the wicked, you should punish the enemies by punishing Sitaji. To attain Sita, you should do Shivradhana. Rama! Rama! Recruitment from the enjoyment of both the worlds, the intense wishes of re-liberation, then the refuge of the Shrotriya-Brahmin Guru, then the Shravan-Manan-Nidhyasana is uninterrupted, then the knowledge is still unlikely, until the knowledgeable karma is there, then the body is known, the body is known as until the body remains. Leaving Kaivalya, he gets liberation.
Therefore, worship Shri Shankar ji for the accomplishment of the four efforts, pleased with this worship, you will conquer Ravana with the vision and blessings of direct Srishankar. Lord Shiva is Ashutosh, soon pleased and consumes the great centers like a mountain, so you take the initiation of earth-elements and do Shivaradhana. They accept the letter given devotionally- flowers- fruits and water etc. By the way, God accepts the water given devotionally with love, but they do not even accept all the three worlds devoid of reverence and devotion. “
Then Shri Ram said- “You give me the initiation of Shiva-Mantra.”
Then Agastya initiated Sri Rama in a ritual and burnt all sins. At his command, Ramji put ashes in the whole body, Rudraksha and began to meditate on Shiva. On the completion of the ritual, Lord Shashankashekhar Parvati appeared with the groups. Shiva showed Lord Rama Visvaroopa, then Sri Rama began to praise him. At the end of the praise, Ramaji says:
“O Mahaprabhu! If you are happy and give your devotees the best of this world or the hereafter or give the whole world, then it is not your specialty, because all these substances are root, sorrow and perishable, in the result, you give the Mahadu of birth and death in the result, so O Lord! If you are happy with me, then you have given knowledge of your unprovoked devotion.”
Pleased with praise, Shri Shankar ji said to Ramji-
“I am the lord of all the disciplines, that’s why I am a nervous, I am all form, all the eyes, eyes, arms, I am situated in my heart with my arms. I am located in my heart, they get peace in my heart, they get peace, not the extreme. I am the only one. I am not afraid to know me, my knowledgeable devotees believe in my words and attain liberation through knowledge.
I am an amazing power, I walk without my feet, I create the world without my hand, I look without eyes, listen without ears. I know everyone, no one knows me. I am only able to know through Vedas, I am the subject of Vedanta. Virtue in me- sin- death- death- ten senses- conscience Chatushya- Panch is not Mahabhut. I am unable, I am located in the cave of intellect- knowing this, a unique devotee of Sat-Asat attains my form. Ram ! In this way, one who knows me with elements attains Kaivalya-liberation. “Jai Shivshankar Jai Shri Ram.
