यह बहुत पुराने समय की बात है । एक गांव में एक सेठजी रहते थे । वह श्रीकृष्णजी के परम भक्त थे । सेठजी निरंतर श्रीकृष्णजी का जाप करते रहते थे । भगवान को सदैव अपने हृदय में बसाए रखते थे ।
प्रतिदिन सेठजी गांव के श्रीकृष्णजी के मंदिर में जाते थे । जब वह घर से निकलते थे, उस समय वह मन में विचार करते थे कि वह आज श्रीकृष्ण भगवान की पूजा अवश्य करेंगे और उन्हें भोग लगाएंगे । परंतु वह श्रीकृष्णजी को भोग नहीं लगा पाते थे, क्योंकि जब भी सेठजी श्रीकृष्णजी के मंदिर की ओर निकलते थे, तो रास्ते में ही उन्हेें नींद आ जाती और वह वहीं सो जाते थे । जैसे ही वह सो जाते, तब उनके साथ लाये हुए सारे पकवान चोरी हो जाते थे ।
नींद से उठने के बाद जब सेठजी को पता चलता कि उनके सारे पकवान तो चोरी हो गए हैं, तब उन्हें बहुत दुःख होता था और वह भगवान श्रीकृष्ण जी से शिकायत करते हुए कहते थे, ‘हे राधेश्याम, प्रतिदिन मेरे साथ ऐसा क्यों होता है ? मैं एक दिन भी आपको भोग क्यों नहीं लगा पाता ?’
सेठजी की बात सुनकर श्रीकृष्णजीने कहा, ‘हे वत्स दाने दाने पर लिखा होता है, खानेवाले का नाम । प्रतिदिन तुम मेरे लिए जो पकवान लेकर आते हो, उन पर मेरा नाम नहीं लिखा होता, इसलिए वह भोग मुझ तक नहीं पहुंचता ।’
श्रीकृष्णजी की बात सुनकर सेठजीने कहा, ‘प्रभु, कल तो मैं आपको अवश्य भोग लगाकर ही रहुंगा ।
दूसरे दिन सेठजी सुबह नहा धोकर तैयार हो गए और अपनी पत्नी से चार डिब्बे भर कर बढिया स्वादिष्ट पकवान बनाने के लिए कहा । पत्नी ने पकवान बनाकर डब्बे भरकर सेठजी को दे दिए । सेठजी उसे लेकर मंदिर के लिए निकल पडे । चलते हुए सेठजी ने निश्चय किया कि आज सोना नहीं है और मैं कान्हाजी को अवश्य भोग लगाऊंगा ।
उन्हें मंदिर जाते समय मार्ग में एक भूखा बच्चा दिखाई दिया । सेठजी को देखकर वह उनके पास आया और खाने के लिए मांगने लगा । उस बच्चे की आयु लगभग ५-६ वर्ष थी । वह बच्चा तो जैसे हड्डियों का ढांचा था । सेठजी को उस भूखे बच्चे पर दया आ गई और उन्होंने उस बच्चे को एक लड्डू दे दिया । उस बच्चे को लड्डू देते ही बहुत से बच्चों की भीड लग गई । वे सभी बच्चे भूखे दिखाई दिए । सेठजी को उनपर दया आ गई तथा सेठजी ने सभी पकवान उन भूखे बच्चों में बांट दिए । तत्पश्चात उन्हें स्मरण हुआ कि आज तो कान्हाजी को अवश्य ही भोग लगाना था; परंतु मंदिर पहुंचने से पहले ही सारे पकवान समाप्त हो चुके थे । मंदिर पहुंचकर वह कान्हाजी की मूर्ति के सामने हाथ जोडकर बैठ गए ।
सेठजी को ऐसे बैठे देख कान्हाजी उनके सामने प्रकट हो गए और सेठजी को चिढाते हुए कहा, ‘लाओ मेरा भोग शीघ्रता से दे दो । मुझे बहुत भूख लगी है । मुझे पकवान खिलाओ । सेठजीने पूरा घटनाकम्र कान्हाजी को बता दिया । कान्हाजी ने मुस्कुराते हुए कहा, ‘मैंने तुमसे कहा था ना, दाने दाने पर लिखा है खानेवाले का नाम । उन पकवानों पर जिनका नाम लिखा हुआ था, उन्होंने वह पकवान खा लिए । तुम व्यर्थ की चिंता क्यों करते हो ?
सेठजी ने कहा, ‘हे प्रभु, मैंने बडे अंहकार से कहा था, आज आपको भोग लगा कर ही रहुंगा । परंतु मुझसे उन बच्चों की भूख नहीं देखी गई और मैं सब भूल गया । कान्हाजी पुन: मुस्कुराए और वह सेठजी को उन बच्चों के पास ले गए, जहां सेठ ने उन्हें खाना खिलाया था, और सेठजी से बोले , ‘जरा देखो, कुछ नजर आ रहा है क्या ?’
उस दृश्य को देखते ही सेठजी की आंखों से अश्रु बहने लगे । सेठजी को दिखाई दिया कि स्वयं कान्हाजी, उन भूखे बच्चों के बीच में खाना खाने के लिए लडते हुए दिखाई दिए । कान्हाजी ने सेठजी से कहा, ‘तुम उन बच्चों में मुझे देख रहे हो । मैं ही वो पहला बच्चा हूं जिसकी भूख तुमने मिटाई है । मैं हर जीव में हूं, कण-कण में भी मैं ही हूं ।’
कान्हाजी की यह बात सुनकर सेठजी का भ्रम दूर हो गया और वह भगवान के चरणों में गिर पडे और कृतज्ञता व्यक्त की ।
This is a very old time. A Sethji lived in a village. He was a great devotee of Shri Krishna. Sethji used to chant Shri Krishnaji continuously. He always kept God in his heart.
Every day Sethji used to go to the temple of Shri Krishnaji in the village. When he used to leave the house, at that time he used to think in his mind that today he will definitely worship Lord Krishna and offer him bhog. But he could not offer bhog to Shri Krishna, because whenever Sethji used to go towards Shri Krishnaji’s temple, he would fall asleep on the way and he used to sleep there. As soon as he fell asleep, all the dishes he had brought with him were stolen.
After getting up from sleep, when Sethji came to know that all his dishes had been stolen, then he used to feel very sad and complaining to Lord Krishna, he used to say, ‘O Radheshyam, why does this happen to me every day? Why can’t I offer you bhog even for a day?’
Hearing Sethji’s words, Shri Krishna said, ‘O Vatsa, it is written on the grain, the name of the eater. The dishes that you bring for me every day, my name would not have been written on them, so that enjoyment does not reach me.
Hearing the words of Shri Krishna, Sethji said, ‘Lord, tomorrow I will definitely stay with you by offering bhog.
The next day Sethji got ready after taking a bath in the morning and asked his wife to fill four cans and prepare a delicious dish. The wife made a dish and filled the boxes and gave it to Sethji. Sethji took him and left for the temple. While walking, Sethji decided that there is no sleep today and I will definitely offer Bhog to Kanhaji.
On his way to the temple, he saw a hungry child on the way. Seeing Sethji, he came to him and started asking for food. The age of that child was about 5-6 years. That child was like a bone structure. Sethji took pity on that hungry child and gave a laddoo to that child. As soon as the laddoos were given to that child, there was a crowd of many children. All those children appeared hungry. Sethji took pity on him and Sethji distributed all the dishes among those hungry children. After that he remembered that today Kanhaji must have offered food; But all the dishes were finished before reaching the temple. After reaching the temple, he sat down with folded hands in front of Kanhaji’s idol.
Seeing Sethji sitting like this, Kanhaji appeared in front of him and teasing Sethji said, ‘Bring me my food quickly. I am very hungry . Feed me the dish Sethji told the entire incident to Kanhaji. Kanhaji smiled and said, ‘I told you not, the name of the eater is written on the grain. Those dishes whose name was written on them, they ate that dish. Why do you worry in vain?
Sethji said, ‘O Lord, I told with great arrogance, I will live by offering you today only. But I did not see the hunger of those children and I forgot everything. Kanhaji smiled again and he took Sethji to the children where Seth had fed him, and said to Sethji, ‘Look, is there anything?’
Tears started flowing from Sethji’s eyes as soon as he saw that scene. It was seen to Sethji that Kanhaji himself was seen fighting for food among those hungry children. Kanhaji said to Sethji, ‘You are seeing me in those children. I am the first child whose hunger you have satisfied. I am in every living being, I am also in every particle.’
Hearing this from Kanhaji, Sethji’s confusion was dispelled and he fell at the feet of the Lord and expressed his gratitude.
