[भज] निताई-गौर राधेश्याम [जप] हरेकृष्ण हरेराम
श्रीजगन्नाथ जी के दर्शन से मूर्छा
तवास्मीति वदन् वाचा तथैव मनसा विदन्।
तत्स्थानमश्रितस्तन्वा मोदते शरणागत।।
अठारहनला पहुँचने पर प्रभु को कुछ-कुछ बाह्य-ज्ञान हुआ। आप वहीं कुछ चिन्तित-से होकर बैठ गये। दोनों आँखों रोते-रोते लाल पड़ गयी थीं। भृकुटी चढ़ी हुई थी। शरीर में सभी सात्त्विक भावों का उद्दीपन हो रहा था। कुछ प्रकृतिस्थ थे, कुछ भावावेश में बेसुध– से थे। उसी मध्य की अवस्था में अपने भक्तों से बहुत ही नम्रता के साथ कहा- ‘भाइयो ! आप लोगों ने मेरे साथ बहुत बड़ा उपकार किया है। इससे बढ़कर और उपकार हो ही क्या सकता है। आप लोगों ने मुझे रास्ते की भाँति-भाँति की विपत्ति से बचाकर यहाँ तक पहुँचा दिया। आप लोग मेरे साथ न होते तो न जाने मैं कहाँ-कहाँ भटकता फिरता, इस बात का निश्चय नहीं था कि मैं यहाँ तक आ भी सकता या नहीं। आप लोगों ने कृपा करके मुझे श्री जगन्नाथ पुरी के दर्शन करा दिये। मैं कृतार्थ हो गया। मैंने आप लोगों को यहाँ तक साथ रखने का विचार किया था। अब आप लोगों की जहाँ इच्छा हो, वहीं जाइये। अब मैं आप लोगों के साथ न रहूँगा।’
नित्यानन्द जी ने अपनी हंसी रोकते हुए कहा- ‘न रखियेगा हम लोगों को साथ, हम साथ रहने को कह ही कब रहे हैं? जब यहाँ तक आये हैं, तो जगन्नाथ जी के दर्शन करने तो चलने देंगे?’
प्रभु ने सिर हिलाते हुए गम्भीर स्वर में कहा- ‘यह नहीं हो सकता। आप लोग मेरे साथ न चलें। यदि आप लोगों को दर्शन करने की इच्छा है, तो या तो मुझसे पीछे जायं या आगे चले जायँ। मेरे साथ नहीं जा सकते। बोलो, आगे जाते हो या पीछे रहते हो?’
कुछ मुसकुराते हुए मुकुन्ददत्त ने कहा- ‘प्रभो ! आप ही आगे चलें, हम तो पीछे ही आये हैं और सब जगही आपके पीछे हो जायँगे।’
बस, इतना ही सुनना था कि महाप्रभु श्रीजगन्नाथ जी के मन्दिर की ओर बड़े ही वेग के साथ दौड़े। मानो किसी अरण्य के मत्त गजेन्द्र ने अपनी उन्मादी अवस्था में किसी ग्राम में प्रवेश किया हो और उसे देखकर मारे भय के ग्राम्य पशु इधर-उधर भागने लगे हों, उसी प्रकार प्रभु को इस उन्मत्तावस्था में मन्दिर की ओर दौड़ते देखकर रास्ते में चलने वाले सभी पथिक इधर-उधर भागने लगे। बहुत-से तो चौंककर दूसरी ओर हट गये। बहुत-से रास्ता छोड़कर एक ओर हट गये और बहुत-से मतिभ्रम हो जाने के कारण पीछे की ही ओर दौड़ने लगे।
महाप्रभु किसी की भी कुछ परवा न करते हुए सीधे मन्दिर की ओर दौड़ते गये। मन्दिर के सिंहद्वार में प्रवेश करके आप सीधे जगमोहन में चले गये और एकदम छलाँग मारकर बात-की-बात में ठीक भगवान के सामने पहुँच गये। सुभद्रा और बलराम के सहित श्रीजगन्नाथ जी के दर्शन करते ही प्रभु का उन्माद पराकाष्ठा को भी पार कर गया। वे महान आवेशों में आकर भगवान के श्रीविग्रह का आलिंगन करने के लिये भीतर मन्दिर की ओर दौड़े। इतने में ही मन्दिर के पहरेदारों ने प्रभु को बीच में ही रोक दिया। प्रहरियों के बीच में आ जाने से प्रभु मुर्च्छित होकर भूमि पर गिर पड़े। उन्हें अपने शरीर का कुछ भी होश नहीं था। चेतन शून्य मनुष्य की भाँति वे निर्जीव-से हुए जगमोहन में पड़े थे। हजारों दर्शनार्थी जगन्नाथ जी के दर्शन को भूलकर इनके दर्शन करने लगे। मन्दिर के बहुत-से यात्री तथा कर्मचारीगण प्रभु को चारों ओर से घेरकर खड़े हो गये। प्रभु अपनी उसी अवस्था में बेहोश पड़े रहे।
उसी समय उड़ीसा के महाराज की पाठशाला के प्रधानाध्यापक आचार्य वासुदेव सार्वभौम भगवान के दर्शन के लिये मन्दिर में पधारे थे। भगवान के दर्शन करते-करते ही उनकी दृष्टि महाप्रभु के ऊपर पड़ी। वे महाप्रभु के अद्भुत रूप-लावण्ययुक्त तेजस्वी विग्रह के दर्शनमात्र से ही उनकी ओर अपने-आप ही आकर्षित हो गये। प्रभु की ऐसी उच्चावस्था देखकर वे जल्दी से महाप्रभु के पास जाकर खड़े हो गये। बड़ी देर तक एकटक भाव से वे प्रभु की ओर निहारते रहे। सार्वभौम महाशय न्याय तथा वेदान्तशास्त्र के तो प्रकाण्ड पण्डित थे ही, अलंकार-ग्रन्थों का भी उन्हें अच्छा ज्ञान था। वे विकार, भाव, अनुभाव तथा नायिका आदि के भेद-प्रभेदों से भी परिचित थे। वे शास्त्रदृष्टि से प्रभु की दशा का मिलान करने लगे।
वे खड़े-ही-खड़े मन में सोच रहे थे कि ‘प्रणय’ के इतने उच्च भावों का मनुष्य-शरीर में प्रकट होना तो सम्भव नहीं। इनमें सभी सात्त्विक विकार एक साथ ही उद्दीप्त हो उठे हैं और उन्हें संवरण करने में भी ये समर्थ नहीं हैं, इसलिये इनके इस समय का यह सुदीप्त सात्त्विक भाव एकदम अलौकिक है। प्रणय के उद्रेक में जो अवस्था श्रीराधिका जी की हो जाती थी और शास्त्रों में जो ‘अधिरूढ़ महाभाव’ के नाम से वर्णित की गयी हैं, ठीक वही दशा इस समय इन संन्यासी युवक की है।
भगवान के प्रति इतने प्रगाढ़ प्रणय के भाव तो मैंने आज तक शास्त्रों में केवल पढ़ा ही था, अभी तक उनका किसी पुरुष के शरीर में उदय होते हुए नहीं देखा था। आज प्रत्यक्ष उस महाभाव के दर्शन कर लिये। अवश्य ही ये सन्यासी-वेषधारी युवक कोई अलौकिक दिव्य महापुरुष हैं। देखने से तो ये गौड़देशीय ही मालूम पड़ते हैं।
सार्वभौम महाशय खड़े-खड़े इस प्रकार सोच ही रहे थे कि मध्याह्न के भोग का समीप आ पहुँचा। प्रभु की मूर्च्छा अभी तक भंग नहीं हुई थी, इसलिये भट्टाचार्य महाशय मन्दिर के सेवकों की सहायता से प्रभु को उसी बेहोशी की दशा में अपने घर के लिये उठवा ले गये और उन्हें एक स्वच्छ सुन्दर लिपे-पुते स्थान में ले आकर लिटा दिया। सार्वभौम महाशय घर श्रीजगन्नाथ जी के मन्दिर के दक्षिण बालुखण्ड में मार्कण्डेय सर के समीप था। आज कल जो ‘गंगामाता का मठ’ के नाम से प्रसिद्ध है, उसी अपने सुन्दर घर में प्रभु को रखकर वे उनके शरीर की देख-रेख करने लगे। उन्होंने अपना हाथ प्रभु की नासिका के आगे रखा। बहुत ही धीरे-धीरे प्राणों की गति चलती हुई प्रतीत हुई। इससे भट्टाचार्य महाशय को प्रसन्नता हुई और ये अपने परिवार सहित प्रभु की सेवा-शुश्रूषा करने लगे।
इधर प्रभु के साथी चारों भक्त पीछे-पीछे आ रहे थे। मन्दिर के दरवाजे पर ही उन्होंने पहरेदारों से पूछा- ‘क्यों भाई ! तुम्हें पता है एक गोरे से गौड़देशीय युवक संन्यासी अभी थोड़ी ही देर पहले यहाँ दर्शन करने आये थे?’
पहरेवालों ने जल्दी से कहा- ‘हाँ, हाँ, उन संन्यासी महाराज के तो हमने दर्शन किये थे। बड़े ही सुन्दर हैं, न जाने उन्हें क्या हो गया, वे भगवान के दर्शन करते ही एकदम बेहोश होकर जगमोहन में गिर पड़े। अभी थोड़ी ही देर पहले आचार्य सार्वभौम उन्हें अपने घर ले गये हैं। क्या आप लोग उन्हीं के साथी हैं?’
नित्यानन्द जी ने कहा- ‘हाँ, हम सब उन्हीं के सेवक हैं। तुम लोग हमें भट्टाचार्य सार्वभौम पण्डित के घर का रास्ता बता सकते हो?’
पहरेवालों ने कहा- ‘अभी हाल ही तो गये हैं, जल्दी से जाओगे तो सम्भव है, तुम्हें वे रास्ते में ही मिल जायँ। इधर सामने जाकर दक्षिण की ओर चले जाना। वहीं मार्कण्डेय सर के समीप सार्वभौम पण्डित का ऊँचा-सा बड़ा मकान है। जिससे भी पूछोगे, वही बता देगा। बहुत सम्भव है, वे तुम्हें रास्ते में ही मिल जायँ।’
पहरेवालों के मुख से ऐसी बात सुनकर सभी लोग उसी ओर चलने लगे। उसी समय रास्ते में भट्टाचार्य सार्वभौम के बहनोई गोपीनाथचार्य इन लोगों को मन्दिर से निकलते हुए मिल गये। आचार्य गोपीनाथ नवद्वीप निवासी ही थे, मुकुन्ददत्त से उनका पुराना परिचय था और वे महाप्रभु के प्रति भी श्रद्धाभाव रखते थे। मुकुन्ददत्त ने देखते ही आचार्य को झुककर प्रणाम किया। आचार्य ने मुकुन्ददत्त का बड़े जोरों से आलिंगन करते हुए प्रसन्नता के साथ कहा- ‘अहा ! गायनाचार्य महाशय यहाँ कहाँ? आप यहाँ कब आये? महाप्रभु का समाचार सुनाइये। महाप्रभु तथा उनके सभी भक्त कुशलपुर्वक तो हैं?’
मुकुन्ददत्त ने कहा- ‘हम बस, इसी समय चले आ रहे हैं। महाप्रभु ने गृहस्थाश्रम का परित्याग करके संन्यास ग्रहण कर लिया है और हम उन्हीं के साथ-ही-साथ यहाँ आये हैं। अठारहनाला से वे हमसे पृथक होकर एकाकी ही भगवान के दर्शनों के लिये दौड़े आये थे। यहाँ आकर पता चला कि सार्वभौम महाशय उन्हें अपने घर ले गये हैं। हम सार्वभौम महाशय के ही घर ही ओर जा रहे थे, सौभाग्य से आपके ही दर्शन हो गये। हमारी यात्रा सफल हो गयी।’
आचार्य गोपीनाथ ने कहा- ‘ठीक है, मैं आप सबको सार्वभौम के घर ले चलूँगा। चलिये पहले भगवान के दर्शन तो कर आइये।’ मुकुन्ददत्त ने कहा-‘पहले हम महाप्रभु का पूर्णरीत्या समाचार जान लें, तब स्वस्थ होकर निश्चिन्ततापूर्वक दर्शन करेंगे। पहले आप हमें सार्वभौम महाशय के ही यहाँ ले चलिये।’
मुकुन्ददत्त के मुख से ऐसी बात सुनकर आचार्य गोपीनाथ जी बड़े प्रसन्न हुए और उनके साथ सार्वभौम के घर की ओर चलने लगे। नित्यानन्द जी का परिचय पाकर आचार्य ने अवधूत समझकर उनके चरणों में प्रणाम किया और प्रभु के सम्बन्ध की ही बातें करते हुए वे पाँचों ही सार्वभौम के घर पहुँचे।
इन सब लोगों ने जाकर प्रभु को चेतनाशून्य अवस्था में ही पाया। भक्तों ने चारों ओर से प्रभु को घेरकर संकीर्तन आरम्भ कर दिया।
संकीर्तन की सुमधुर ध्वनि कानों में पड़ते ही प्रभु हुंकार मारकर बैठे गये। भक्तिभाव से पुत्र और स्त्री के सहित समीप में बैठकर शुश्रूषा करने वाले सार्वभौम तथा अन्य सभी उपस्थित पुरुषों को प्रभु के उठने से बड़ी भारी प्रसन्नता हुई। सभी के मुरझाये हुए चेहरों पर हलकी-सी प्रसन्नता की लालिमा दिखायी देने लगी। संकीर्तन की ध्वनि से सार्वभौम का वह भव्य गूंजने लगा। प्रभु के कुछ-कुछ प्रकृतिस्थ होने पर सार्वभौम की सम्मति से उनके पुत्र चन्दनेश्वर के साथ नित्यानन्द प्रभृति सभी भक्त श्रीजगन्नाथ जी के दर्शनों को चले गये। वहाँ जाकर उन्होंने भक्तिभाव सहित श्री सुभद्रा तथा बलदेव जी के सहित जगन्नाथ भगवान के दर्शन किये। पुजारी ने प्रसादी, चन्दन तथा माला इन सभी भक्तों के लिये दिया। उसे ग्रहण करके वे लोग अपने सौभाग्य की सराहना करने लगे।
पाठकों ने सार्वभौम भट्टाचार्य का नाम तो पहले ही सुन लिया है, अब उनका संक्षिप्त परिचय दे देना आवश्यक प्रतीत होता है। सार्वभौम महाशय अपने समय के उस प्रान्त में अद्वितीय विद्वान तथा नैयायिक समझे जाते थे। उनके शास्त्रज्ञान की चारों ओर ख्याति थी। इतना सब होने पर भी प्रभु के समागम के पूर्व उनका जीवन भक्ति-विहीन ही था। उनकी अंदर छिपी हुई महान भावुकता तब तक प्रस्फुटित नहीं हुई थी, वह चन्द्रकान्त मणि में छिपे हुए जल की भाँति अव्यक्तभाव से ही स्थित थे। गौरचन्द्र की सुखद शीतल किरणों का संसर्ग पाते ही वह सहसा द्रवित होकर बाहर टपकने लगी और उसी के कारण भट्टाचार्य सार्वभौम का नीरस जीवन सरस बन गया और वे महानन्द सागर में सदा किलो लें करते हुए अलौकिक रस का सुखास्वादन करते हुए अपने जीवन को बिताने लगे।

Saying I am yours, knowing with words as well as with mind. He who takes refuge in that place or takes refuge in it rejoices.
On reaching Atharhanla, the Lord had some external knowledge. You sat there somewhat worried. Both eyes had turned red from crying. Bhrikuti was raised. All the sattvik feelings were getting excited in the body. Some were natural, some were delirious with emotion. In the same middle stage, he said to his devotees very humbly – ‘Brothers! You guys have done me a great favor. What can be a greater favor than this? You people saved me from all kinds of trouble on the way and took me here. If you people were not with me, I don’t know where I would have wandered, I was not sure whether I would be able to come here or not. You people have kindly given me the darshan of Shri Jagannath Puri. I am grateful. I had thought of keeping you guys with me till here. Now go wherever you want. Now I will not be with you guys.
Nityanand ji restrained his laughter and said- ‘Don’t keep us together, when are you asking us to stay together? Since you have come this far, will you allow us to go to visit Jagannathji?’
Prabhu shook his head and said in a serious voice – ‘This cannot be. You guys don’t go with me. If you guys want to have darshan, then either go behind me or go ahead. Can’t go with me Tell me, do you go ahead or stay behind?’
Smiling somewhat, Mukundadatta said – ‘Lord! You go ahead, we have come behind and will follow you everywhere.’
All I had to hear was that Mahaprabhu ran with great speed towards the temple of Shri Jagannathji. As if a drunken Gajendra of a forest had entered a village in his frenzied state and upon seeing him, the animals of the village started running hither and thither in fear, similarly all the wayfarers walking on the way seeing the Lord running towards the temple in this frenzied state Started running here and there. Many were startled and moved to the other side. Many left the path and went to one side and many started running backwards due to hallucinations.
Mahaprabhu kept running straight towards the temple without caring about anyone. After entering the Sinhdwar of the temple, you went straight to Jagmohan and in a very quick jump reached right in front of God in conversation. On seeing Lord Jagannath along with Subhadra and Balarama, the ecstasy of the Lord crossed its limits. They came in great passion and ran towards the temple inside to embrace the Deity of the Lord. Meanwhile, the guards of the temple stopped the Lord midway. On coming in between the guards, the Lord fainted and fell on the ground. He had no consciousness of his body. Like a man without consciousness, he was lying in lifeless Jagmohan. Thousands of visitors forgot the darshan of Jagannath ji and started visiting him. Many passengers and employees of the temple stood surrounding the Lord from all sides. Prabhu remained unconscious in his same condition.
At the same time, Acharya Vasudev, the headmaster of the school of the Maharaja of Orissa, had come to the temple to have the darshan of the Universal Lord. As soon as he saw God, his vision fell on Mahaprabhu. They automatically got attracted towards Mahaprabhu just by having a darshan of the wonderful form-elegant Deity. Seeing such an exalted state of the Lord, he quickly went and stood near Mahaprabhu. For a long time, he kept looking at the Lord with a lonely feeling. Sarvabhaum Mahasaya was not only a great scholar of justice and Vedanta Shastra, he also had good knowledge of Alankar texts. He was also familiar with the distinctions between disorder, feeling, experience and heroine etc. They started matching the condition of the Lord with the scriptures.
While standing, he was thinking in his mind that it is not possible for such high feelings of ‘love’ to manifest in the human body. All the sattvik disorders have arisen in him at the same time and he is not even able to control them, so this well-lit sattvik feeling of his time is absolutely supernatural. The condition which Shriradhika ji used to be in when she was in love and which is described in the scriptures as ‘Adhirudh Mahabhav’, exactly the same is the condition of this monk youth at this time.
Till date, I had only read about the feelings of such intense love towards God in the scriptures, till now I had not seen them emerging in the body of any man. Today, I saw that greatness directly. Surely this monk-dressed young man is some supernatural divine great man. By looking at them, they seem to be of Gaudeshiya only.
The universal gentleman was standing and thinking in this way that the mid-day meal had come near. Prabhu’s unconsciousness had not yet broken, so Bhattacharya Mahasaya, with the help of the servants of the temple, took Prabhu to his home in the same state of unconsciousness and brought him to a clean, beautifully wrapped place and made him lie down. Sarvabhaum Mahashay Ghar was near the Markandeya head in the south Balukhand of Shri Jagannathji’s temple. Now-a-days, which is famous as ‘Gangamata’s Math’, keeping the Lord in his beautiful house, he started taking care of his body. He placed his hand in front of the nostrils of the Lord. The speed of life seemed to be moving very slowly. This pleased Bhattacharya Mahasaya and he along with his family started serving the Lord.
Here all the four devotees who were the companions of the Lord were coming one after the other. At the door of the temple, he asked the guards – ‘Why brother! Do you know that a fair-skinned young sanyasi from Gaudesh had come here just a short while ago to have darshan?’
The guards quickly said – ‘Yes, yes, we had seen that Sanyasi Maharaj. He is very beautiful, don’t know what happened to him, as soon as he saw God, he fainted and fell in Jagmohan. Acharya Sarvabhaum has taken him to his home just a short while ago. Are you his companions?’
Nityanand ji said- ‘Yes, we all are his servants. Can you show us the way to Bhattacharya Sarvabhaum Pandit’s house?’
The guards said – ‘He has just gone, if you go soon, it is possible that you will meet him on the way. Go here in front and go south. On the other hand, near Markandeya Sir, there is a tall big house of Sarvabhaum Pandit. Whoever you ask, he will tell. It is quite possible that they will meet you on the way.’
Hearing such a thing from the mouth of the guards, all the people started walking in that direction. At the same time, on the way, Gopinathcharya, the brother-in-law of Bhattacharya Sarvabhaum, met these people coming out of the temple. Acharya Gopinath was a resident of Nabadwip, he had an old acquaintance with Mukundadatta and he also had reverence for Mahaprabhu. Mukundadatta bowed down to the Acharya as soon as he saw it. Acharya embraced Mukundadatta very loudly and said with happiness- ‘Aha! Where is Gayanacharya sir here? when did you come here Tell the news of Mahaprabhu. Are Mahaprabhu and all his devotees doing well?
Mukundatta said – ‘ We are just coming at this time. Mahaprabhu has renounced the householder’s home and taken sannyas and we have come here along with him. Separated from us from Atharanala, he had come running alone to have darshan of God. After coming here, I came to know that Sarvabhaum sir has taken him to his home. We were on our way to Sarvabhaum Mahashay’s house, luckily we got to see you. Our journey was successful.
Acharya Gopinath said- ‘Okay, I will take you all to the house of the universal. Let’s go and have darshan of God first.’ Mukundadatta said – ‘First we get to know the complete news of Mahaprabhu, then we will have darshan after being healthy. First you take us to the sovereign gentleman’s place.’
Acharya Gopinath ji was very happy to hear such a thing from Mukundadatta’s mouth and started walking with him towards the house of Sarvabhaum. After getting the introduction of Nityanand ji, Acharya bowed down at his feet considering him as an avadhoot and all five of them reached the house of the sovereign, talking only about the relation of the Lord.
All these people went and found the Lord in an unconscious state. The devotees surrounded the Lord from all sides and started chanting.
As soon as the melodious sound of Sankirtan reached his ears, the Lord sat down humming. The sovereign and all the other present men, who sat nearby with devotion, along with the son and the wife, were overjoyed at the rising of the Lord. A slight blush of happiness began to appear on everyone’s withered faces. With the sound of sankirtan, that grandeur of the universal started echoing. With the consent of the Almighty, Nityanand Prabhruti along with his son Chandaneshwar, all the devotees went to see Shri Jagannath ji after the Lord became somewhat natural. Going there, he had darshan of Lord Jagannath along with Shri Subhadra and Baldev ji with devotion. The priest gave prasadi, sandalwood and garlands to all these devotees. By accepting it, they started appreciating their good fortune.
Readers have already heard the name of Sarvabhaum Bhattacharya, now it seems necessary to give his brief introduction. Sarvabhaum Mahasaya was considered a unique scholar and judge in that province of his time. His scriptures were famous all around. In spite of all this, before meeting with the Lord, his life was devoid of devotion. The great sentimentality hidden inside him had not erupted till then, he was situated in unmanifested form like the water hidden in the Chandrakant gem. As soon as it came in contact with the pleasant cool rays of Gaurchandra, it suddenly liquefied and started dripping out and because of that Bhattacharya Sarvabhaum’s monotonous life became mustard and he started spending his life enjoying the pleasure of supernatural juice, always taking kilos in Mahanand Sagar.
