परंपराओं और ऐतिहासिक धरोहरों की भूमि भारत के हृदय में कई ऐसे भी राज दफ़्न हैं, जो कहानियां बनकर आज भी सुने और सुनाए जाते हैं। आज हम आपको भगवान जगन्नाथ की मूर्ति और भगवान श्रीकृष्ण की मौत से जुडी एक ऐसी ही कहानी से परिचित करवा रहे है।
हिन्दू धर्म के बेहद पवित्र स्थल और चार धामों में से एक जगन्नाथ पुरी की धरती को भगवान विष्णु का स्थल माना जाता है। जगन्नाथ मंदिर से जुड़ी एक बेहद रहस्यमय कहानी प्रचलित है, जिसके अनुसार मंदिर में मौजूद भगवान जगन्नाथ की मूर्ति के भीतर स्वयं ब्रह्मा विराजमान हैं।
ब्रह्मा कृष्ण के नश्वर शरीर में विराजमान थे और जब कृष्ण की मृत्यु हुई तब पांडवों ने उनके शरीर का दाह-संस्कार कर दिया लेकिन कृष्ण का दिल (पिंड) जलता ही रहा। ईश्वर के आदेशानुसार पिंड को पांडवों ने जल में प्रवाहित कर दिया। उस पिंड ने लट्ठे का रूप ले लिया।
राजा इन्द्रद्युम्न, जो कि भगवान जगन्नाथ के भक्त थे, को यह लट्ठा मिला और उन्होंने इसे जगन्नाथ की मूर्ति के भीतर स्थापित कर दिया। उस दिन से लेकर आज तक वह लट्ठा भगवान जगन्नाथ की मूर्ति के भीतर है। हर 12 वर्ष के अंतराल के बाद जगन्नाथ की मूर्ति बदलती है लेकिन यह लट्ठा उसी में रहता है।
इस लकड़ी के लट्ठे से एक हैरान करने वाली बात यह भी है कि यह मूर्ति हर 12 साल में एक बार बदलती तो है लेकिन लट्ठे को आज तक किसी ने नहीं देखा।
मंदिर के पुजारी जो इस मूर्ति को बदलते हैं, उनका कहना है कि उनकी आंखों पर पट्टी बांध दी जाती है और हाथ पर कपड़ा ढक दिया जाता है। इसलिए वे ना तो उस लट्ठे को देख पाए हैं और ही छूकर महसूस कर पाए हैं। पुजारियों के अनुसार वह लट्ठा इतना सॉफ्ट होता है मानो कोई खरगोश उनके हाथ में फुदक रहा है।
पुजारियों का ऐसा मानना है कि अगर कोई व्यक्ति इस मूर्ति के भीतर छिपे ब्रह्मा को देख लेगा तो उसकी मृत्यु हो जाएगी।
इसी वजह से जिस दिन जगन्नाथ की मूर्ति बदली जानी होती है, उड़ीसा सरकार द्वारा पूरे शहर की बिजली बाधित कर दी जाती है। यह बात आज तक एक रहस्य ही है कि क्या वाकई भगवान जगन्नाथ की मूर्ति में ब्रह्मा का वास है।

The land of Jagannath Puri, the most sacred place of Hinduism and one of the four Dhams, is considered to be the site of Lord Vishnu. There is a very mysterious story associated with the Jagannath temple, according to which Brahma himself is seated inside the idol of Lord Jagannath present in the temple.
Brahma was seated in Krishna’s mortal body and when Krishna died, the Pandavas cremated his body but Krishna’s heart (pind) continued to burn. According to the order of God, the Pandavas threw the body into the water. That body took the form of a log. King Indradyumna, who was a devotee of Lord Jagannath, found this log and installed it inside the idol of Jagannath. From that day till today that log is inside the idol of Lord Jagannath. The idol of Jagannath changes after the interval of every 12 years but this log remains in it.
One surprising thing from this wooden log is that this idol changes once in every 12 years, but no one has seen the log till date.
The priests of the temple who change this idol say that they are blindfolded and their hands are covered with cloth. That’s why they have neither been able to see that log nor have they been able to feel it by touching it. According to the priests, that log is so soft as if a rabbit is hopping in their hands.
The priests believe that if a person sees Brahma hidden inside this idol, then he will die.
For this reason, the day when Jagannath’s idol is to be replaced, the entire city’s electricity is cut off by the Orissa government. It remains a mystery till date whether Brahma really resides in the idol of Lord Jagannath. Long live Shri Krishna
