जय माँ भगवती महादुर्गा

अनंतकोटि ब्रह्मांडों की अधीश्वरी भगवती श्रीदुर्गा ही सम्पूर्ण विश्व को सत्ता और स्फूर्ति प्रदान करती हैं। इन्हीं की शक्ति से ब्रह्मादि देवता उत्पन्न होते हैं, जिनसे विश्व की उत्पत्ति होती है।

इन्हीं की शक्ति से विष्णु और शिव प्रकट होकर विश्व का पालन और संहार करते हैं। ये ही गोलोक में श्रीराधा, साकेत में श्री सीता, क्षीर सागर में लक्ष्मी, दक्षकन्या सती तथा दुर्गतिनाशिनी दुर्गा हैं।

शिवपुराण के अनुसार भगवती श्रीदुर्गा के आविर्भाव की कथा-

प्राचीन काल में दुर्गम नामक एक महाबली दैत्य उत्पन्न हुआ। उसने ब्रह्माजी के वरदान से चारों वेदों को लुप्त कर दिया। वेदों के अदृश्य हो जाने से सारी वैदिक क्रिया बंद हो गई।

उस समय ब्राह्मण और देवता भी दुराचारी हो गए। न कहीं दान होता था, न तप किया जाता था। न यज्ञ होता था, न होम ही किया जाता था। इसका परिणाम यह हुआ कि पृथ्वी पर सौ वर्षों तक वर्षा बंद हो गई। तीनों लोकों में हाहाकार मच गया। सब लोग अत्यंत दु:खी हो गए। कुआं, बावड़ी, सरोवर, सरिता और समुद्र सभी सूख गए। सभी लोग भूख-प्यास से संतप्त होकर मरने लगे। प्रजा के महान दु:ख को देखकर सभी देवता महेश्वरी योग माया की शरण में गए।

देवताओं ने भगवती से कहा, ‘‘महामाये! अपनी सारी प्रजा की रक्षा करो। सभी लोग अकाल पडऩे से भोजन और पानी के अभाव में चेतनाहीन हो रहे हैं। तीनों लोकों में त्राहि-त्राहि मची है। मां! जैसे आपने शुम्भ-निशुम्भ, चंड-मुंड, रक्तबीज, मधु-कैटभ तथा महिष आदि असुरों का वध करके हमारी रक्षा की थी, वैसे ही दुर्गमासुर के अत्याचार से हमारी रक्षा कीजिए।’’

देवताओं की प्रार्थना सुनकर कृपामयी देवी ने उन्हें अपने अनंत नेत्रों से युक्त स्वरूप का दर्शन कराया! तदनंतर पराम्बा भगवती ने अपने अनंत नेत्रों से अश्रुजल की सहस्रों धाराएं प्रवाहित कीं। उन धाराओं से सब लोग तृप्त हो गए और समस्त औषधियां भी सिंच गईं।

सरिताओं और समुद्रों में अगाध जल भर गया। पृथ्वी पर शाक और फल-मूल के अंकुर उत्पन्न होने लगे। देवी की इस कृपा से देवता और मनुष्यों सहित सभी प्राणी तृप्त हो गए।उसके बाद देवी ने देवताओं से पूछा, ‘‘अब मैं तुम लोगों का और कौन-सा कार्य सिद्ध करूं ?’’

देवताओं ने कहा, ‘‘मां! जैसे आपने समस्त विश्व पर आए अनावृष्टि के संकट को हटाकर सब के प्राणों की रक्षा की है, वैसे ही दुष्ट दुर्गमासुर को मारकर और उसके द्वारा अपहृत वेदों को लाकर धर्म की रक्षा कीजिए।’’

देवी ने ‘एवमस्तु’ कहकर देवताओं को संतुष्ट कर दिया। देवता उन्हें प्रणाम करके अपने स्थान को लौट गए। तीनों लोकों में आनंद छा गया। जब दुर्गमासुर को इस रहस्य का ज्ञान हुआ, तब उसने अपनी आसुरी सेना को लेकर देवलोक को घेर लिया।

करुणामयी मां ने देवताओं को बचाने के लिए देवलोक के चारों ओर अपने तेजोमंडल की एक चारदीवारी खड़ी कर दी और स्वयं घेरे के बाहर आ डटीं। देवी को देखते ही दैत्यों ने उन पर आक्रमण कर दिया।

इसी बीच देवी के दिव्य शरीर से काली, तारा, छिन्नमस्ता, श्रीविद्या, भुवनेश्वरी, भैरवी, बगलामुखी, धूमावती, त्रिपुरसुंदरी और मातंगी ये दस महाविद्याएं अस्त्र-शस्त्र लिए निकलीं तथा असंख्य मातृकाएं भी प्रकट हुईं। उन सबने अपने मस्तक पर चंद्रमा का मुकुट धारण कर रखा था। इन शक्तियों ने देखते ही देखते दुर्गमासुर की सौ अक्षौहिणी सेना को काट डाला।

इसके बाद देवी ने दुर्गमासुर का अपने तीखे त्रिशूल से वध कर डाला और वेदों का उद्धार कर उन्हें देवताओं को दे दिया। दुर्गमासुर को मारने के कारण उनका दुर्गा नाम प्रसिद्ध हुआ। शताक्षी और शाकम्भरी भी उन्हीं के नाम हैं। दुर्गतिनाशिनी होने के कारण भी वे दुर्गा कहलाती हैं।

Goddess Sri Durga, the mistress of infinite universes, gives power and vitality to the entire world. By the power of these Brahma and other gods are born, from whom the world is created.

With their power, Vishnu and Shiva appear and maintain and destroy the world. These are Shri Radha in Golok, Shri Sita in Saket, Lakshmi in Kshir Sagar, Dakshananya Sati and Durgatinashini Durga.

According to Shiva Purana, the story of the appearance of Goddess Sri Durga-

In ancient times, a mighty demon named Durgam was born. With the boon of Lord Brahma, he destroyed all four Vedas. Due to the disappearance of the Vedas, all Vedic activities stopped.

At that time Brahmins and gods also became wicked. There was neither charity nor penance. Neither Yagya nor Homa was performed. The result was that rain stopped on Earth for a hundred years. There was an uproar in all three worlds. Everyone became extremely sad. The well, stepwell, lake, stream and sea all dried up. Everyone started dying due to hunger and thirst. Seeing the great sorrow of the people, all the gods took refuge in Maheshwari Yoga Maya.

The gods said to Bhagwati, “Mahamaya! Protect all your people. All the people are becoming unconscious due to lack of food and water due to famine. There is chaos in all three worlds. Mother! Just as you protected us by killing the demons Shumbh-Nishumbh, Chand-Mund, Raktabeej, Madhu-Kaitabh and Mahish etc., similarly protect us from the atrocities of Durgamasura.

Hearing the prayers of the gods, the merciful goddess showed them her form with infinite eyes. Thereafter, Paramba Bhagwati released thousands of streams of tears from her infinite eyes. Everyone was satisfied with those streams and all the medicines were also watered.

The rivers and seas were filled with immense water. Saplings of vegetables and fruits started growing on the earth. With this grace of the Goddess, all the living beings including Gods and humans were satisfied. After that the Goddess asked the Gods, “Now what other task should I accomplish for you people?”

The gods said, “Mother! Just as you have saved everyone’s lives by removing the threat of drought from the entire world, similarly save the religion by killing the evil Durgamasura and bringing back the Vedas kidnapped by him.”

The goddess satisfied the gods by saying ‘Evamastu’. The gods saluted him and returned to their place. There was joy in all three worlds. When Durgamasura came to know about this secret, he surrounded Devlok with his demonic army.

To save the gods, the compassionate mother erected a boundary wall of her radiance around the Devlok and herself stood outside the circle. As soon as they saw the goddess, the demons attacked her.

Meanwhile, ten Mahavidyas namely Kali, Tara, Chhinnamasta, Srividya, Bhuvaneshwari, Bhairavi, Baglamukhi, Dhumavati, Tripurasundari and Matangi emerged from the divine body of the Goddess carrying weapons and innumerable Matrikas also appeared. All of them were wearing moon crown on their heads. These powers, in no time, destroyed the hundred Akshauhini army of Durgamasura.

After this, the goddess killed Durgamasura with her sharp trident and rescued the Vedas and gave them to the gods. Her name Durga became famous because she killed Durgamasura. Shatakshi and Shakambhari are also his names. She is also called Durga because she is Durgatinashini.
