एक बार राधा जी सखी से बोलीं–‘सखी ! तुम श्री कृष्ण की प्रसन्नता के लिए किसी देवता की ऐसी पूजा बताओ जो परम सौभाग्यवर्द्धक हो।’ तब समस्त सखियों में श्रेष्ठ चन्द्रनना ने अपने हदय में एक क्षण तक कुछ विचार किया, फिर बोलीं–‘राधे ! परम सौभाग्यदायक और श्रीकृष्ण की भी प्राप्ति के लिए वरदायक व्रत है–तुलसी की सेवा। तुम्हें तुलसी सेवन का ही नियम लेना चाहिये। क्योंकि तुलसी का यदि स्पर्श अथवा ध्यान, नाम, संकीर्तन, आरोपण, सेचन, किया जाये, तो महान पुण्यप्रद होता है।
हे राधे ! जो प्रतिदिन तुलसी की नौ प्रकार से भक्ति करते हैं, वे कोटि सहस्त्र युगों तक अपने उस सुकृत्य का उत्तम फल भोगते हैं।
मनुष्यों की लगायी हुई तुलसी जब तक शाखा, प्रशाखा, बीज, पुष्प, और सुन्दर दलों, के साथ पृथ्वी पर बढ़ती रहती है तब तक उनके वंश मै जो-जो जन्म लेता है, वे सभी हजारों हजार कल्पों तक श्रीहरि के धाम में निवास करते हैं। जो तुलसी मंजरी सिर पर रखकर प्राण त्याग करता है, वह सैकड़ों पापों से युक्त क्यों न हो यमराज उनकी ओर देख भी नहीं सकते।’
इस प्रकार चन्द्रनना की कही बात सुनकर रासेश्वरी श्री राधा ने साक्षात् श्री हरि को सन्तुष्ट करने वाले तुलसी सेवन का व्रत आरम्भ किया। श्री राधा रानी का तुलसी सेवा व्रत केतकी वन में सौ हाथ गोलाकार भूमि पर बहुत ऊँचा और अत्यन्त मनोहर श्री तुलसी का मन्दिर बनवाया, जिसकी दीवार सोने से जड़ी थीं, और किनारे-किनारे पद्मरागमणि लगी थीं।
वह सुन्दर-सुन्दर पन्ने हीरे और मोतियों के परकोटे से अत्यन्त सुशोभित था, और उसके चारो ओर परिक्रमा के लिए गली बनायीं गई थी, जिसकी भूमि चिन्तामणि से मण्डित थी। ऐसे तुलसी मन्दिर के मध्य भाग में हरे पल्लवों से सुशोभित तुलसी की स्थापना करके श्री राधा ने अभिजित मुहूर्त में उनकी सेवा प्रारम्भ की।
श्री राधा जी ने आश्विन शुक्ला पूर्णिमा से लेकर चैत्र पूर्णिमा तक तुलसी सेवन व्रत का अनुष्ठान किया। व्रत आरम्भ करने उन्होंने प्रतिमास पृथक-पृथक रस से तुलसी को सींचा।
कार्तिक में दूध से, मार्गशीर्ष में ईख के रस से, पौष में द्राक्षा रस से, माघ में बारहमासी आम के रस से, फाल्गुन मास में अनेक वस्तुओ से मिश्रित मिश्री के रस से और चैत्र मास में पंचामृत से उनका सेचन किया, और वैशाख कृष्ण प्रतिपदा के दिन उद्यापन का उत्सव किया।
उन्होंने दो लाख ब्राह्मणों को छप्पन भोगों से तृप्त करके वस्त्र और आभूषणों के साथ दक्षिणा दी। मोटे-मोटे दिव्य मोतियों का एक लाख भार और सुवर्ण का एक कोटि भार श्री गर्गाचार्य को दिया। उस समय आकाश से देवता तुलसी मन्दिर पर फूलो की वर्षा करने लगे।
उसी समय सुवर्ण सिंहासन पर विराजमान हरिप्रिया तुलसी देवी प्रकट हुईं। उनके चार भुजाएँ थीं, कमल दल के समान विशाल नेत्र थे, सोलह वर्ष की सी अवस्था और श्याम काँति थी। मस्तक पर हेममय किरीट प्रकाशित था और कानों में कंचनमय कुंडल झलमला रहे थे गरुड़ से उतरकर तुलसी देवी ने रंग वल्ली जैसी श्री राधा जी को अपनी भुजाओं से अंक में भर लिया और उनके मुखचन्द्र का चुम्बन किया।
तुलसी बोली–‘कलावती राधे ! मैं तुम्हारी भक्ति से प्रसन्न हूँ, यहाँ इन्द्रिय, मन, बुद्धि, और चित् द्वारा जो जो मनोरथ तुमने किया है वह सब तुम्हारे सम्मुख सफल हो।’
इस प्रकार हरिप्रिया तुलसी को प्रणाम करके वृषभानु नन्दिनी राधा ने उनसे कहा–‘देवी ! गोविन्द के युगल चरणों में मेरी अहैतु की भक्ति बनी रहे।’ तब तथास्तु कहकर हरिप्रिया अंतर्धान हो गईं। इस प्रकार पृथ्वी पर जो मनुष्य श्री राधिका के इस विचित्र उपाख्यान को सुनता है वह भगवान को पाकर कृतकृत्य हो गया।
Once Radha ji said to the sakhi – ‘Sakhi! For the happiness of Shri Krishna, please tell the worship of any deity which is very fortunate. The most fortunate and a boon for the attainment of Shri Krishna is the fast – the service of Tulsi. You should follow the rule of consuming Tulsi only. Because if Tulsi is touched or meditated, name, sankirtana, implantation, sechan, then it is of great merit. O Radhe! Those who worship Tulsi in nine ways every day, they enjoy the best fruits of their good deeds for hundreds of thousands of ages. As long as the Tulsi planted by human beings continues to grow on the earth with branches, branches, seeds, flowers, and beautiful parties, then all those who take birth in their descendants, they all reside in the abode of Shri Hari for thousands of kalpas. Huh. Yamraj cannot even look at him who sacrifices his life by keeping Tulsi Manjari on his head, even if he is full of hundreds of sins.
Thus listening to Chandranana’s words, Raseshwari Shri Radha started the fast of consuming Tulsi, which satisfies Shri Hari directly. Shri Radha Rani’s Tulsi Seva Vrat Constructed a very high and very beautiful temple of Shri Tulsi on a hundred cubits round ground in Ketki forest, whose walls were studded with gold, and on the banks were the Padmaragmani. The beautiful emerald was adorned with a garland of diamonds and pearls, and a lane was built around it for circumambulation, the land of which was decorated with chintamani. Shri Radha started his service in Abhijit Muhurta by establishing Tulsi adorned with green Pallavas in the central part of such Tulsi temple. Shri Radha ji performed the rituals of Tulsi Seven Vrat from Ashwin Shukla Purnima to Chaitra Purnima. To start the fast, he watered Tulsi with different juices every month. In Kartik with milk, in Margashirsha with sugarcane juice, in Pausha with draksha juice, in Magha with perennial mango juice, in the month of Phalgun with sugar candy juice mixed with many things and in Chaitra month with Panchamrita, and Vaishakh Krishna Udyapan was celebrated on the day of Pratipada.
He satisfied two lakh brahmins with fifty-six bhog and gave dakshina along with clothes and ornaments. He gave one lakh loads of pearls and a whole lot of gold to Shri Gargacharya. At that time the gods from the sky started showering flowers on the Tulsi temple.
At the same time, Haripriya Tulsi Devi, who was seated on the golden throne, appeared. He had four arms, huge eyes like a lotus party, the age of sixteen years and the radiance of shyam. Hemaya Kirit was illuminated on the head and Kanchanamaya coils were twinkling in the ears. After descending from the Garuda, Tulsi Devi, like Rang Valli, filled Shri Radha ji with her arms in the number and kissed her face. Tulsi said – ‘Kalavati Radhe! I am pleased with your devotion, may all the desires that you have done here with the senses, mind, intellect and chit be successful before you.’ Thus worshiping Haripriya Tulsi, Vrishabhanu Nandini Radha said to him – ‘Goddess! May my devotion to Ahaitu remain in the couple feet of Govind. Thus the man on earth who listens to this strange anecdote of Shri Radhika becomes an act of gratitude after finding God.
