हिंदू धर्म में स्वास्तिक का बहुत बड़ा महत्व है। हिंदू लोग किसी भी शुभ कार्य को आरंभ करने से पहले स्वास्तिक का चिन्ह बनाकर उसकी पूजा करते हैं। मान्यता है कि ऐसा करने से कार्य सफल होता है। स्वास्तिक के चिन्ह को मंगल का प्रतीक माना जाता है।
स्वास्तिक शब्द को ‘सु’ और ‘अस्ति’ का मिश्रण योग माना गया है। ‘सु’ का अर्थ है शुभ और ‘अस्ति’ से तात्पर्य है होना। इसका मतलब स्वास्तिक का मौलिक अर्थ है ‘शुभ हो’, ‘कल्याण हो’।
स्वास्तिक का अर्थ होता है- कल्याण या मंगल। इसी प्रकार स्वास्तिक का अर्थ होता है- कल्याण या मंगल करने वाला। स्वास्तिक एक विशेष तरह की आकृति है, जिसे किसी भी कार्य को करने से पहले बनाया जाता है। माना जाता है कि यह चारों दिशाओं से शुभ और मंगल चीजों को अपनी तरफ आकर्षित करता है।
चूंकि स्वास्तिक को कार्य की शुरुआत और मंगल कार्य में रखते हैं, अतः यह भगवान् गणेश का रूप भी माना जाता है। माना जाता है कि इसका प्रयोग करने से व्यक्ति को सम्पन्नता, समृद्धि और एकाग्रता की प्राप्ति होती है। इतना ही नहीं जिस किसी पूजा उपासना में स्वास्तिक का प्रयोग नहीं किया जाता, वह पूजा लम्बे समय तक अपना प्रभाव नहीं रख पाती है।
स्वास्तिक का वैज्ञानिक महत्व-
यदि आपने स्वास्तिक सही तरीके से बनाया हुआ है तो उसमें से ढेर सारी सकारात्मक उर्जा निकलती है।
१- यह उर्जा वस्तु या व्यक्ति की रक्षा, सुरक्षा करने में मददगार होती है।
२- स्वास्तिक की उर्जा का अगर घर, अस्पताल या दैनिक जीवन में प्रयोग किया जाय तो व्यक्ति रोगमुक्त और चिंता मुक्त रह सकता है।
३- गलत तरीके से प्रयोग किया गया स्वास्तिक भयंकर समस्याएं भी पैदा कर सकता है।
स्वास्तिक का प्रयोग कैसे करें-
१- स्वास्तिक की रेखाएं और कोण बिलकुल सही होने चाहिए।
२- भूलकर भी उलटे स्वास्तिक का निर्माण और प्रयोग न करें।
३- लाल और पीले रंग के स्वास्तिक ही सर्वश्रेष्ठ होते हैं।
४- जहां-जहां वास्तु दोष हो वहां घर के मुख्य द्वार पर लाल रंग का स्वास्तिक बनायें।
५- पूजा के स्थान, पढाई के स्थान और वाहन में अपने सामने स्वास्तिक बनाने से लाभ मिलता है।
स्वास्तिक की चार रेखाओं की चार पुरुषार्थ, चार आश्रम, चार लोक और चार देवों यानि कि भगवान ब्रह्मा, विष्णु, महेश (भगवान शिव) और गणेश से तुलना की गई है। स्वास्तिक की चार रेखाओं को जोड़ने के बाद मध्य में बने बिंदु को भी विभिन्न मान्यताओं द्वारा परिभाषित किया जाता है।
लाल रंग से ही स्वास्तिक क्यों बनाया जाता है-
लाल रंग व्यक्ति के शारीरिक और मानसिक स्तर को जल्दी प्रभावित करता है। यह रंग शक्ति का प्रतीक माना जाता है। सौर मण्डल में मौजूद ग्रहों में से मंगल ग्रह का रंग भी लाल है। यह एक ऐसा ग्रह है जिसे साहस, पराक्रम, बल व शक्ति के लिए जाना जाता है। यही वजह है कि स्वास्तिक बनाते समय सिर्फ लाल रंग का ही उपयोग करने की सलाह दी जाती है।

The four lines of Swastika have been compared to four Purusharthas, four Ashrams, four worlds and four gods i.e. Lord Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh (Lord Shiva) and Ganesha. The point formed in the middle after connecting the four lines of Swastika is also defined by various beliefs.
Why is Swastika made with red color only?
Red color quickly affects the physical and mental level of a person. This color is considered a symbol of power. Among the planets present in the solar system, Mars is also red in colour. It is a planet which is known for courage, bravery, strength and power. This is the reason why it is advised to use only red color while making Swastika.
