भगवान शिव कहते हैं:- हे देवी ! अब आठवें अध्याय का माहात्म्य सुनो, उसके सुनने से तुम्हें बड़ी प्रसन्नता होगी, लक्ष्मीजी के पूछने पर भगवान विष्णु ने उन्हें इस प्रकार आठवें अध्याय का माहात्म्य बतलाया था।
श्री भगवान बोलेः- दक्षिण में आमर्दकपुर नामक एक प्रसिद्ध नगर है, वहाँ भाव शर्मा नामक एक ब्राह्मण रहता था, जिसने वेश्या को पत्नी बना कर रखा था, वह मांस खाता था, मदिरा पीता, श्रेष्ठ पुरुषों का धन चुराता, परायी स्त्री से व्यभिचार करता और शिकार खेलने में दिलचस्पी रखता था, वह बड़े भयानक स्वभाव का था और और मन में बड़े-बड़े हौंसले रखता था, एक दिन मदिरा पीने वालों का समाज जुटा था, उसमें भाव शर्मा ने भर पेट ताड़ी पी, खूब गले तक उसे चढ़ाया, अतः अजीर्ण से अत्यन्त पीड़ित होकर वह पापात्मा काल-वश मर गया और बहुत बड़ा ताड़ का वृक्ष हुआ।
उसकी घनी और ठंडी छाया का आश्रय लेकर ब्रह्म-राक्षस भाव को प्राप्त हुए कोई पति-पत्नी वहाँ रहा करते थे, उनके पूर्व जन्म की घटना इस प्रकार है, एक कुशीबल नामक ब्राह्मण था, जो वेद-वेदांग के तत्त्वों का ज्ञाता, सम्पूर्ण शास्त्रों के अर्थ का विशेषज्ञ और सदाचारी था, उसकी स्त्री का नाम कुमति था, वह बड़े खोटे विचार की थी, वह ब्राह्मण विद्वान होने पर भी अत्यन्त लोभ-वश अपनी स्त्री के साथ प्रतिदिन भैंस, काल-पुरुष और घोड़े आदि दानों को ग्रहण किया करता था, परन्तु दूसरे ब्राह्मणों को दान में मिली हुई कौड़ी भी नहीं देता था, वे ही दोनों पति-पत्नी काल-वश मृत्यु को प्राप्त होकर ब्रह्म-राक्षस हुए, वे भूख और प्यास से पीड़ित हो इस पृथ्वी पर घूमते हुए उसी ताड वृक्ष के पास आये और उसके मूल भाग में विश्राम करने लगे।
पत्नी ने पति से पूछाः- ‘नाथ! हम लोगों का यह महान दुःख कैसे दूर होगा? ब्रह्म-राक्षस-योनि से किस प्रकार हम दोनों की मुक्ति होगी?
ब्राह्मण ने कहाः- “ब्रह्मविद्या के उपदेश, आध्यात्म तत्व के विचार और कर्म विधि के ज्ञान बिना किस प्रकार संकट से छुटकारा मिल सकता है?
पत्नी ने पूछाः- “किं तद् ब्रह्म किमध्यात्मं किं कर्म पुरुषोत्तम” (पुरुषोत्तम ! वह ब्रह्म क्या है? अध्यात्म क्या है और कर्म कौन सा है?) उसकी पत्नी इतना कहते ही जो आश्चर्य की घटना घटित हुई, उसको सुनो, उपर्युक्त वाक्य गीता के आठवें अध्याय का आधा श्लोक था, उसके श्रवण से वह वृक्ष उस समय ताड के रूप को त्यागकर भाव शर्मा नामक ब्राह्मण हो गया, तत्काल ज्ञान होने से विशुद्ध-चित्त होकर वह पाप के चोले से मुक्त हो गया तथा उस आधे श्लोक के ही माहात्म्य से वे पति-पत्नी भी मुक्त हो गये, उनके मुख से दैवात् ही आठवें अध्याय का आधा श्लोक निकल पड़ा था।
तदनन्तर आकाश से एक दिव्य विमान आया और वे दोनों पति-पत्नी उस विमान पर आरूढ़ होकर स्वर्गलोक को चले गये, वहाँ का यह सारा वृत्तान्त अत्यन्त आश्चर्यजनक था, उसके बाद उस बुद्धिमान ब्राह्मण भाव शर्मा ने आदर-पूर्वक उस आधे श्लोक को लिखा और भगवान जनार्दन की आराधना करने की इच्छा से वह मुक्ति दायिनी काशीपुरी में चला गया, वहाँ उस उदार बुद्धिवाले ब्राह्मण ने भारी तपस्या आरम्भ की, उसी समय क्षीरसागर की कन्या भगवती लक्ष्मी ने हाथ जोड़कर देवताओं के भी देवता जगत्पति जनार्दन से पूछाः “हे नाथ ! आप सहसा नींद त्याग कर खड़े क्यों हो गये?”
श्री भगवान बोलेः- हे देवी! काशीपुरी में भागीरथी के तट पर बुद्धिमान ब्राह्मण भाव शर्मा मेरे भक्ति-रस से परिपूर्ण होकर अत्यन्त कठोर तपस्या कर रहा है, वह अपनी इन्द्रियों के वश में करके गीता के आठवें अध्याय के आधे श्लोक का जप करता है, मैं उसकी तपस्या से बहुत संतुष्ट हूँ, बहुत देर से उसकी तपस्या के अनुरूप फल का विचार का रहा था, प्रिये ! इस समय वह फल देने को मैं उत्कण्ठति हूँ।
पार्वती जी ने पूछाः- भगवन! श्रीहरि सदा प्रसन्न होने पर भी जिसके लिए चिन्तित हो उठे थे, उस भगवद् भक्त भाव शर्मा ने कौन-सा फल प्राप्त किया?
श्री महादेवजी बोलेः- हे देवी! द्विजश्रेष्ठ भाव शर्मा प्रसन्न हुए भगवान विष्णु के प्रसाद को पाकर आत्यन्तिक सुख (मोक्ष) को प्राप्त हुआ तथा उसके अन्य वंशज भी, जो नरक यातना में पड़े थे, उसी के शुद्ध कर्म से भगवद्धाम को प्राप्त हुए, पार्वती! यह आठवें अध्याय का माहात्म्य थोड़े में ही तुम्हे बताया है, इस पर सदा विचार करना चाहिए।

Shri Bhagwan said:- In the south there is a famous town named Amardakpur, there lived a Brahmin named Bhav Sharma, who had taken a prostitute as his wife, he used to eat meat, drink alcohol, steal the wealth of superior men, commit adultery with a foreign woman. and was interested in hunting, he was of a very fearful nature and had great spirits in his mind, one day the society of drinkers was gathered, Bhav Sharma drank toddy in his stomach, offered it till his throat, Therefore, suffering greatly from indigestion, that sinful soul died due to time and a huge palm tree grew.
Taking shelter of its thick and cold shadow, some husband and wife who attained the Brahma-demonic spirit used to live there, the incident of their previous birth is as follows, there was a brahmin named Kushibal, who was the knower of the elements of Vedas and Vedangas, all the scriptures. He was an expert and virtuous, his wife’s name was Kumati, she had very bad thoughts, even though she was a Brahmin scholar, she used to take buffalo, Kaal-purush and horse etc. But he did not give even a penny received in charity to other brahmins, both of them husband and wife, having died due to time, became brahma-rakshasas, they were suffering from hunger and thirst, roaming on this earth under the same palm tree. came near and started resting in its root part.
The wife asked the husband:- ‘Nath! How will this great sorrow of our people be overcome? How will both of us be liberated from Brahma-Rakshas-Yoni?
The brahmin said:- “How can one get rid of trouble without the teachings of Brahmavidya, the thoughts of the spiritual element and the knowledge of the method of action?
The wife asked:- “Kin tad brahm kimdhyatma ki karma purushottam” (Purushottam! What is that Brahman? What is spirituality and what is action?) Listen to the astonishing incident that happened as soon as his wife said this, the above sentence is from the Gita. There was half a verse of the eighth chapter, by hearing that tree at that time renounced the form of a toad and became a brahmin named Bhava Sharma, by having instant knowledge, he became free from the clutches of sin and became free from the clutches of sin and by the greatness of that half verse. Those husband and wife also became free, half a verse of the eighth chapter had come out of their mouths from the divine.
After that a divine plane came from the sky and both the husband and wife boarded that plane and went to heaven, the whole story there was very amazing, after that the intelligent Brahmin Bhav Sharma wrote that half verse respectfully and God With the desire to worship Janardana, he went to the liberated Kashipuri, where that liberal-minded Brahmin started heavy penance, at the same time Bhagwati Lakshmi, the daughter of Kshirsagar, with folded hands asked Jagatpati Janardan, the god of the gods: “Oh Nath! Why did you stand up after giving up sleep?”
Shri Bhagwan said:- O Goddess! Bhav Sharma, a wise brahmin on the banks of Bhagirathi in Kashipuri, is doing a very severe penance, full of my devotion, he chants half a verse of the eighth chapter of the Gita under the control of his senses, I am very satisfied with his penance. For a long time, according to his penance, the idea of fruits was there, dear! At this time I am eager to give that fruit.
Parvati ji asked:- Lord! For whom Shri Hari was always happy, what was the result of Bhava Sharma, a devotee of God, for whom he was worried?
Shri Mahadevji said:- O Goddess! Dwijshreshtha Bhava Sharma was pleased, after receiving the prasad of Lord Vishnu, he attained ultimate happiness (salvation) and his other descendants, who were in hell torment, also attained the abode of God, Parvati! The importance of this eighth chapter has been told to you in a short time, it should always be considered.
