एक पुजारी थे. ईश्वर की भक्ति में लीन रहते. सबसे मीठा बोलते. सबका खूब सम्मान करते. जो जैसा देता है वैसा उसे मिलता है. लोग भी उन्हें अत्यंत श्रद्धा एवं सम्मान भाव से देखते थे.
पुजारी जी प्रतिदिन सुबह मंदिर आ जाते. दिन भर भजन-पूजन करते. लोगों को विश्वास हो गया था कि यदि हम अपनी समस्या पुजारी जी को बता दें तो वह हमारी बात बिहारी जी तक पहुंचा कर निदान करा देंगे.
एक तांगेवाले ने भी सवारियों से पुजारी जी की भक्ति के बारे में सुन रखा था. उसकी बड़ी इच्छा होती कि वह मंदिर आए लेकिन सुबह से शाम तक काम में लगा रहता क्योंकि उसके पीछे उसका बड़ा परिवार भी था.
उसे इस बात काम हमेशा दुख रहता कि पेट पालने के चक्कर में वह मंदिर नहीं जा पा रहा.
वह लगातार ईश्वर से दूर हो रहा है. उसके जैसा पापी शायद ही कोई इस संसार में हो. यह सब सोचकर उसका मन ग्लानि से भर जाता था. इसी उधेड़बुन में फंसा उसका मन और शरीर इतना सुस्त हो जाता कि कई बार काम भी ठीक से नहीं कर पाता. घोड़ा बिदकने लगता, तांगा डगमगाने लगता और सवारियों की झिड़कियां भी सुननी पड़तीं.
तांगेवाले के मन का बोझ बहुत ज्यादा बढ़ गया, तब वह एक दिन मंदिर गया और पुजारी से अपनी बात कही- मैं सुबह से शाम तक तांगा चलाकर परिवार का पेट पालने में व्यस्त रहता हूं. मुझे मंदिर आने का भी समय नहीं मिलता. पूजा- अनुष्ठान तो बहुत दूर की बात है.
पुजारी ने गाड़ीवान की आंखों में अपराध बोध और ईश्वर के कोप के भय का भाव पढ लिया. पुजारी ने कहा- तो इसमें दुखी होने की क्या बात है ?
तांगेवाला बोला- मुझे डर है कि इस कारण भगवान मुझे नरक की यातना सहने न भेज दें. मैंने कभी विधि-विधान से पूजा-पाठ किया ही नहीं, पता नहीं आगे कर पाउं भी या नहीं. क्या मैं तांगा चलाना छोड़कर रोज मंदिर में पूजा करना शुरू कर दूं ?
पुजारी ने गाड़ीवान से पूछा- तुम गाड़ी में सुबह से शाम तक लोगों को एक गांव से दूसरे गांव पहुंचाते हो. क्या कभी ऐसा भी हुआ है कि तुमने किसी बूढ़े, अपाहिज, बच्चों या जिनके पास पास पैसे न हों, उनसे बिना पैसे लिए तांगे में बिठा लिया हो ?
गाड़ीवान बोला- बिल्कुल ! अक्सर ऐसा करता हूं. यदि कोई पैदल चलने में असमर्थ दिखाई पड़ता है तो उसे अपनी गाड़ी में बिठा लेता हूं और पैसे भी नहीं मांगता.
पुजारी यह सुनकर खुश हुए. उन्होंने गाड़ीवान से कहा- तुम अपना काम बिलकुल मत छोड़ो. बूढ़ों, अपाहिजों, रोगियों और बच्चों और परेशान लोगों की सेवा ही ईश्वर की सच्ची भक्ति है.
जिसके मन में करुणा और सेवा की भावना हो, उनके लिए पूरा संसार मंदिर समान है. मंदिर तो उन्हें आना पड़ता है जो अपने कर्मों से ईश्वर की प्रार्थना नहीं कर पाते.
तुम्हें मंदिर आने की बिलकुल जरूरत नहीं है. परोपकार और दूसरों की सेवा करके मुझसे ज्यादा सच्ची भक्ति तुम कर रहे हो.
ईमानदारी से परिवार के भरण-पोषण के साथ ही दूसरों के प्रति दया रखने वाले लोग प्रभु को सबसे ज्यादा प्रिय हैं.यदि अपना यह काम बंद कर दोगे तो ईश्वर को अच्छा नहीं लगेगा पूजा-पाठ, भजन-कीर्तन ये सब मन को शांति देते हैं.मंदिर में हम स्वयं को ईश्वर के आगे समर्पित कर देते हैं.संसार के जीव ईश्वर की संतान हैं और इनकी सेवा करना ईश्वर की सेवा करना ही है..!!

Was a priest. Remained absorbed in devotion to God. Speaks sweetest. Respected everyone very much. One gets what he gives. People also looked at him with utmost reverence and respect.
The priest would come to the temple every morning. Would do bhajan and worship throughout the day. People were convinced that if we told our problem to the priest, he would pass it on to Bihari ji and get it resolved.
A horse rider had also heard about the devotion of the priest from the passengers. He had a great desire to come to the temple but he remained busy working from morning till evening because he also had a large family behind him.
He was always sad about the fact that he was not able to go to the temple to make ends meet.
He is continuously moving away from God. There is hardly anyone in this world who is a sinner like him. Thinking about all this his mind was filled with guilt. Caught in this confusion, his mind and body become so dull that at times he is unable to even work properly. The horse would start bucking, the chariot would start wavering and one would have to hear scoldings from the riders.
The burden on the horse rider’s mind increased a lot, then one day he went to the temple and told the priest – I am busy driving the horse carriage from morning to evening and feeding the family. I don’t even get time to visit the temple. Worship and rituals are a very distant thing.
The priest read the feeling of guilt and fear of God’s wrath in the eyes of the driver. The priest said- So what is there to be sad about?
The horse rider said – I am afraid that because of this God might send me to suffer the tortures of hell. I have never performed puja as per the rituals, I don’t know whether I will be able to do so in future or not. Should I stop driving a tanga and start worshiping in the temple every day?
The priest asked the cart driver – You transport people from one village to another in the cart from morning to evening. Has it ever happened that you have made an old man, a handicapped person, a child or someone who does not have money sit in a carriage without taking any money from him?
The driver said- Of course! I do this often. If someone seems unable to walk, I take him in my car and do not even ask for money.
The priest was happy to hear this. He said to the driver – Don’t leave your work at all. Service to the old, the disabled, the sick, children and distressed people is the true devotion to God.
The whole world is like a temple for those who have a feeling of compassion and service. Those who are unable to pray to God through their actions have to come to the temple.
You don’t need to come to the temple at all. By doing charity and serving others, you are doing truer devotion than me.
People who honestly support their families and are kind to others are most loved by God. If you stop this work, God will not like it. Worship, bhajans and kirtans all give peace to the mind. In the temple we surrender ourselves to God. The living beings of the world are the children of God and serving them is serving God..!!
