एक बार राजा भोज की सभा में एक व्यापारी ने प्रवेश किया ।
राजा भोज की दृष्टि उस पर पड़ी तो उसे देखते ही अचानक
उनके मन में विचार आया कि कुछ ऐसा किया जाए ताकि इस
व्यापारी की सारी संपत्ति छीनकर राजकोष में जमा कर दी
जाए । व्यापारी जब तक वहां रहा भोज का मन रह रहकर
उसकी संपत्ति को हड़प लेने का करता ।
कुछ देर बाद व्यापारी चला गया । उसके जाने के बाद राजा
को अपने राज्य के ही एक निवासी के लिए आए ऐसे विचारों
के लिए बड़ा खेद होने लगा ।
राजा भोज ने सोचा कि मैं तो प्रजा के साथ न्यायप्रिय रहता
हूं । आज मेरे मन में ऐसा कलुषित विचार क्यों आया ?
उन्होंने अपने मंत्री से सारी बात बताकर समाधान पूछा ।
मन्त्री ने कहा- इसका उत्तर देने के लिए आप मुझे कुछ
समय दें ।
राजा मान गए।
मंत्री विलक्षण बुद्धि का था । वह इधर-उधर के सोच-विचार
में समय न खोकर सीधा व्यापारी से मैत्री गाँठने पहुंचा ।
व्यापारी से मित्रता करने के बाद उसने पूछा- मित्र तुम चिन्तित
क्यों हो ? भारी मुनाफे वाले चन्दन का व्यापार करते हो, फिर
चिंता कैसी ?
व्यापारी बोला- मेरे पास उत्तम कोटि के चंदन का बड़ा भंडार
जमा हो गया है। चंदन से भरी गाडियां लेकर अनेक शहरों के
चक्कर लगाए पर नहीं बिक रहा है । बहुत धन इसमें फंसा
पडा है । अब नुकसान से बचने का कोई उपाय नहीं है ।
व्यापारी की बातें सुनकर मंत्री ने पूछा- क्या हानि से बचने का
कोई उपाय नहीं? व्यापारी हंसकर कहने लगा-
अगर राजा भोज की मृत्यु हो जाए तो उनके दाह-संस्कार के
लिए सारा चन्दन बिक सकता है । अब तो यही अंतिम मार्ग
दिखता है ।
व्यापारी की इस बात से मंत्री को राजा के उस प्रश्न का उत्तर
मिल चुका था जो उन्होंने व्यापारी के संदर्भ में पूछा था।
मंत्री ने कहा- तुम आज से प्रतिदिन राजा का भोजन पकाने
के लिए चालीस किलो चन्दन राजरसोई भेज दिया करो । पैसे
उसी समय मिल जाएंगे ।
व्यापारी यह सुनकर बड़ा खुश हुआ । प्रतिदिन और नकद
चंदन बिक्री से तो उसकी समस्या ही दूर हो जाने वाली थी ।
वह मन ही मन राजा के दीर्घायु होने की कामना करने लगा
ताकि राजा की रसोई के लिए चंदन लंबे समय तक बेचता
रहे ।
एक दिन राजा अपनी सभा में बैठे थे । वह व्यापारी दोबारा
राजा के दर्शनों को वहां आया । उसे देखकर राजा के मन में
विचार आया कि यह कितना आकर्षक व्यक्ति है । इसे कुछ
पुरस्कार स्वरूप अवश्य दिया जाना चाहिए।

राजा ने मंत्री से कहा-यह व्यापारी पहली बार आया था तो उस
दिन मेरे मन में कुछ बुरे भाव आए थे और मैंने तुमसे प्रश्न किया
था । आज इसे देखकर मेरे मन के भाव बदल गए । इसे दूसरी
बार देखकर मेरे मन में इतना परिवर्तन कैसे हो गया ?

मन्त्री ने उत्तर देते हुए कहा-महाराज ! मैं आपके दोनों ही
प्रश्नों का उत्तर आज दे रहा हूं । यह जब पहली बार आया
था तब यह आपकी मृत्यु की कामना रखता था । अब यह
आपके लंबे जीवन की कामना करता रहता है । इसलिए
आपके मन में इसके प्रति दो तरह की भावनाओं ने जन्म
लिया है । जैसी भावना अपनी होती है, वैसा ही प्रतिबिम्ब
दूसरे के मन पर पडने लगता है ।
मित्रो, यह एक सत्य है । मैं इसे प्रकृती की देन या प्राकृतिक
सत्य कहूँगा हम किसी व्यक्ति का मूल्यांकन कर रहे होते हैं
तो उसके मन में उपजते भावों का उस मूल्यांकन पर गहरा
प्रभाव पड़ता है । इसलिए जब भी किसी से मिलें तो एक
सकारात्मक सोच के साथ ही मिलें । ताकि आपके शरीर से
सकारात्मक ऊर्जा निकले और वह व्यक्ति उस सकारात्मक
ऊर्जा से प्रभावित होकर आसानी से आप के पक्ष में विचार
करने के लिए प्रेरित हो सके क्योंकि जैसी दृष्टि होगी, वैसी सृष्टि होगी
