एक पहुंचे हुए महात्मा थे। एक दिन महात्मा जी ने सोचा कि उनके बाद भी धर्मसभा चलती रहे इसलिए क्यों न अपने एक शिष्य को इस विद्या में पारंगत किया जाए। उन्होंने एक शिष्य को इसके लिए प्रशिक्षित किया। अब शिष्य प्रवचन करने लगा।
सभा में एक सुंदर युवती आने लगी। वह उपदेश सुनने के साथ प्रार्थना, कीर्तन, नृत्य आदि समारोह में भी सहयोग देती।
लोगों को उस युवती का युवक संन्यासी के प्रति लगाव खटकने लगा। एक दिन कुछ लोग महात्माजी के पास आकर बोले – प्रभु आपका शिष्य भ्रष्ट हो गया है।’
महात्मा जी बोले – चलो हम स्वयं देखते हैं। महात्मा जी आए, सभा आरंभ हुई। युवा संन्यासी ने उपदेश शुरू किया। युवती भी आई। उसने भी रोज की तरह सहयोग दिया।
सभा के बाद महात्मा जी ने लोगों से पूछा – ‘क्या युवक संन्यासी प्रतिदिन यही सब करता है। और कुछ तो नहीं करता?
लोगों ने कहा – बस यही सब करता है।
महात्मा जी ने फिर पूछा – क्या उसने तुम्हें गलत रास्ते पर चलने का उपदेश दिया? कुछ अधार्मिक करने को कहा?
सभी ने कहा – नहीं।
महात्माजी बोले – तो फिर शिकायत क्या है? कुछ धीमे स्वर उभरे कि ‘इस युवती का इस संन्यासी के साथ मिलना- जुलना अनैतिक है’।
महात्माजी ने कहा – ‘मुझे दुख है कि तुम्हारे ऊपर उपदेशों का कोई असर नहीं पड़ा। तुमने ये जानने की कोशिश नहीं की वो युवती है कौन। वह इस युवक की बहन है।
चूंकि तुम सबकी नीयत ही गलत है इसलिए तुमने उन्हें गलत माना।
सभी लज्जित हो गए।
जब नियत ही खोटी हो तो उपदेश का असर कैसे होगा? जय जय श्री राधे
One was the visiting Mahatma. One day Mahatma ji thought that even after him, the Dharm Sabha continued, so why should not one of his disciples be expert in this discipline. He trained a disciple for this. Now the disciple started preaching.
A beautiful young woman started coming to the meeting. She would also help in listening to preaching, prayer, kirtan, dance etc.
The young man of the young woman started to affect the monk. One day some people came to Mahatmaji and said – Lord your disciple has become corrupt. ‘
Mahatma ji said – Let us see ourselves. Mahatma ji came, the meeting started. The young monk started the teachings. The girl also came. He also supported it as usual.
After the meeting, Mahatma ji asked the people – ‘Does the young man do this every day. Does nothing else?
People said – that’s all do this.
Mahatma ji again asked – did he preach you to walk on the wrong path? Asked to do something irreligious?
Everyone said – no. Mahatmaji said – then what is the complaint? Some slow voices emerged that ‘it is immoral to meet this girl with this monk’.
Mahatmaji said – ‘I am sad that the teachings had no effect on you. You do not try to know who is a young woman. She is the sister of this young man.
Since your intention is wrong, you considered them wrong.
All were ashamed.
