शास्त्र कहते हैं कि अठारह दिनों के महाभारत युद्ध में उस समय की पुरुष जनसंख्या का 80% सफाया हो गया था। युद्ध के अंत में संजय कुरुक्षेत्र के उस स्थान पर गए; जहां संसार का सबसे महानतम युद्ध हुआ था।
उसने इधर-उधर देखा और सोचने लगा कि क्या वास्तव में यहीं युद्ध हुआ था?
यदि यहां युद्ध हुआ था तो जहां वो खड़ा है, वहां की जमीन रक्त से सराबोर होनी चाहिए। क्या वो आज उसी जगह पर खड़ा है; जहां महान पांडव और कृष्ण खड़े थे?
तभी एक वृद्ध व्यक्ति ने वहां आकर धीमे और शांत स्वर में कहा, “आप उस बारे में सच्चाई कभी नहीं जान पाएंगे!
संजय ने धूल के बड़े से गुबार के बीच दिखाई देने वाले भगवा वस्त्रधारी एक वृद्ध व्यक्ति को देखने के लिए उस ओर सिर को घुमाया।
“मुझे पता है कि आप कुरुक्षेत्र युद्ध के बारे में पता लगाने के लिए यहां आये हैं, लेकिन आप उस युद्ध के बारे में तब तक नहीं जान सकते, जब तक आप ये नहीं जान लेते हैं कि असली युद्ध है क्या?” बूढ़े आदमी ने रहस्यमय ढंग से कहा।
“तुम महाभारत का क्या अर्थ जानते हो?” तब संजय ने उस रहस्यमय व्यक्ति से पूछा।
वह कहने लगा, “महाभारत एक गाथा मात्र नहीं है, एक वास्तविकता भी है, यह निश्चित रूप से एक दर्शन भी है।”
“क्या आप मुझे बता सकते हैं कि यह दर्शन क्या है?” संजय ने निवेदन किया।
अवश्य जानता हूं, बूढ़े आदमी ने कहना शुरू किया। पांडव कुछ और नहीं, बल्कि आपकी पाँच इंद्रियाँ हैं – दृष्टि, गंध, स्वाद, स्पर्श और श्रवण – और क्या आप जानते हैं कि कौरव क्या हैं?
कौरव ऐसे सौ तरह के विकार हैं, जो आपकी इंद्रियों पर प्रतिदिन हमला करते हैं। आप उनसे लड़ सकते हैं और जीत भी सकते हैं। पर; क्या आप जानते हैं; कैसे?
“जब कृष्ण आपके रथ की सवारी करते हैं!” यह कह वह वृद्ध व्यक्ति बड़े प्यार से मुस्कुराया और संजय अंतर्दृष्टि खुलने पर जो नवीन रत्न प्राप्त हुआ था; उस पर विचार करने लगा…
“कृष्ण आपकी आंतरिक आवाज, आपकी आत्मा, आपका मार्गदर्शक और प्रकाश है। यदि आप अपने जीवन को उनके हाथों में सौप देते हैं तो आपको फिर चिंता करने की कोई भी आवश्कता नहीं है।” वृद्ध आदमी ने कहा।
संजय अब तक लगभग चेतन अवस्था में पहुंच गया था, लेकिन फिर जल्दी से एक और सवाल लेकर आया।
फिर कौरवों के लिए द्रोणाचार्य और भीष्म क्यों लड़ रहे थे?
भीष्म हमारे अहंकार का प्रतीक हैं। अश्वत्थामा हमारी वासनाएं हैं; इच्छाएं हैं, जो कि जल्दी नहीं मरतीं। दुर्योधन हमारी सांसारिक वासनाओं का प्रतीक है।
द्रोणाचार्य हमारे संस्कार हैं। जयद्रथ हमारे शरीर के प्रति राग का प्रतीक है कि ‘मैं ये देह हूं’ का भाव। द्रुपद वैराग्य का प्रतीक हैं।अर्जुन मेरी आत्मा हैं, मैं ही अर्जुन हूं और स्वनियंत्रित भी हूं। कृष्ण हमारे परमात्मा हैं।
पांच पांडव पांच नीचे वाले चक्र भी हैं-मूलाधार से विशुद्ध चक्र तक। द्रोपदी कुंडलिनी शक्ति है, वह जागृत शक्ति है, जिसके ५ पति ५ चक्र हैं। ॐ शब्द ही कृष्ण का पांचजन्य शंखनाद है; जो मुझ और आप आत्मा को ढ़ाढ़स बंधाता है कि चिंता मत कर मैं तेरे साथ हूं। अपनी बुराइयों पर विजय पा, अपने निम्न विचारों, निम्न इच्छाओं, सांसारिक इच्छाओं, अपने आंतरिक शत्रुओं यानि कौरवों से लड़ाई कर अर्थात अपनी सांसारिक वासनाओं को त्याग कर और चैतन्य पाठ पर आरूढ़ हो जा। विकार रूपी कौरव अधर्मी एवं दुष्ट प्रकृति के हैं। अपने शरीर रूपी कुरूक्षेत्र के वसनारूपी कौरवों को जीतने के लिए आपको अपनी अंतरात्मा रूपी भगवान श्री कृष्ण की आवाज सुनना होगा; तभी जीत हो सकती है; अन्यथा कौरव रूपी वासनाएं हर पल आपको छलेंगी, धराशाई करेंगी।
श्री कृष्ण का साथ होते ही हमारी नाड़ियों में भगवान की चैतन्य शक्ति भर जाती है। इसलिए उठो, जागो और अपने आपको, अपनी आत्मा को, अपने स्वयं सच को जानो, भगवान को पाओ, यही भगवद प्राप्ति या आत्म साक्षात्कार है, यही इस मानव जीवन का सर्वोच्च लक्ष्य है।
ये शरीर ही धर्म क्षेत्र, कुरुक्षेत्र है। धृतराष्ट्र अज्ञान से अंधा हुआ मन है। अर्जुन आप हो, संजय आपके आध्यात्मिक गुरु हैं।
वृद्ध आदमी ने दुःखी भाव के साथ सिर हिलाया और कहा, “जैसे-जैसे आप बड़े होते हैं, अपने बड़ों के प्रति आपकी धारणा बदल जाती है।
जिन बुजुर्गों के बारे में आपने सोचा था कि आपके बढ़ते वर्षों में वे संपूर्ण थे, अब आपको लगता है वे सभी परिपूर्ण नहीं हैं और उनमें दोष हैं। एक दिन आपको यह तय करना होगा कि उनका व्यवहार आपके लिए अच्छा या बुरा है।
तब आपको यह भी अहसास हो सकता है कि आपको अपनी भलाई के लिए उनका विरोध करना या लड़ना भी पड़ सकता है। यह बड़ा होने का सबसे कठिन हिस्सा है और यही वजह है कि गीता महत्वपूर्ण है।
संजय धरती पर बैठ गया, इसलिए नहीं कि वह थका हुआ था या थक गया था, बल्कि इसलिए कि वह जो समझ लेकर यहां आया था, वो एक-एक कर धराशायी हो रही थीं।
लेकिन फिर भी उसने लगभग फुसफुसाते हुए एक और प्रश्न पूछा, तब कर्ण के बारे में आपका क्या कहना है?
“आह!” वृद्ध ने कहा। आपने अंत के लिए सबसे अच्छा प्रश्न बचाकर रखा हुआ है।
“कर्ण आपकी इंद्रियों का भाई है। वह इच्छा है। वह सांसारिक सुख के प्रति आपके राग का प्रतीक है। वह आप का ही एक हिस्सा है, लेकिन वह अपने प्रति अन्याय महसूस करता है और आपके विरोधी विकारों के साथ खड़ा दिखता है और हर समय विकारों के विचारों के साथ खड़े रहने के कोई न कोई कारण और बहाना बनाता रहता है। क्या आपकी इच्छा; आपको विकारों के वशीभूत होकर उनमें बह जाने या अपनाने के लिए प्रेरित नहीं करती रहती है?” वृद्ध ने संजय से पूछा।
1?संजय ने स्वीकारोक्ति में सिर हिलाया और भूमि की तरफ सिर करके सारी विचार श्रंखलाओं को क्रमबद्ध कर मस्तिष्क में बैठाने का प्रयास करने लगा और जब उसने अपने सिर को ऊपर उठाया, वह वृद्ध व्यक्ति धूल के गुबारों के मध्य कहीं विलीन हो चुका था। लेकिन जाने से पहले वह जीवन की वो दिशा एवं दर्शन दे गया था, जिसे आत्मसात करने के अतिरिक्त संजय के सामने अब कोई अन्य मार्ग नहीं बचा था…

Sanjay turned his head to see an old man clad in saffron robes appearing amidst a large cloud of dust.
“I know you have come here to find out about the Kurukshetra war, but you cannot know about that war unless you know what the real war is?” the old man said mysteriously.
“What do you know the meaning of Mahabharata?” Then Sanjay asked that mysterious person.
He began to say, “Mahabharata is not just a legend, it is also a reality, it is certainly a philosophy as well.”
“Can you tell me what this philosophy is?” Sanjay requested.
Of course I know, began the old man. The Pandavas are nothing but your five senses – sight, smell, taste, touch and hearing – and do you know what the Kauravas are?
Kauravas, there are hundred types of disorders that attack your senses every day. You can fight them and win too. But; Do you know; How?
“When Krishna rides your chariot!” Saying this the old man smiled lovingly and the new gem that Sanjay had received when the insight opened; started thinking about it…
“Krishna is your inner voice, your soul, your guide and light. If you put your life in his hands, you have nothing to worry about.” said the old man.
Sanjay was almost conscious by now, but then quickly came up with another question.
Then why were Dronacharya and Bhishma fighting for the Kauravas?
Bhishma is the symbol of our ego. Ashwatthama is our desires; There are desires, which do not die soon. Duryodhana is the symbol of our worldly desires.
Dronacharya is our culture. Jayadratha is the symbol of attachment towards our body that feeling of ‘I am this body’. Drupada is the symbol of dispassion. Arjuna is my soul, I am Arjuna and I am self-controlled. Krishna is our Supreme Soul.
The five Pandavas are also the five lower chakras – from Muladhara to Vishuddha Chakra. Draupadi is the Kundalini Shakti, she is the awakened Shakti, who has 5 husbands and 5 chakras. The word Om is the five-born conch shell of Krishna; The one who gives courage to me and you soul that don’t worry I am with you. Overcome your evils, your low thoughts, low desires, worldly desires, fight with your inner enemies i.e. Kauravas i.e. give up your worldly desires and get fixed on the Chaitanya Path. Kauravas in the form of vices are unrighteous and evil in nature. To win over the lustful Kauravas of Kurukshetra in the form of your body, you have to listen to the voice of Lord Shri Krishna in the form of your inner self; Only then can there be victory; Otherwise the lusts in the form of Kauravas will deceive you every moment and destroy you.
As soon as Shri Krishna is with us, the divine energy of God fills our nadis. So get up, wake up and know yourself, your soul, your own truth, find God, that is God realization or self realization, that is the highest goal of this human life.
This body itself is the Dharma Kshetra, Kurukshetra. Dhritarashtra has a mind blinded by ignorance. Arjuna is you, Sanjaya is your spiritual master.
The old man nodded sadly and said, “As you grow up, your perception of your elders changes.
The elders whom you thought were perfect in your growing up years, now you feel that they are not perfect and have flaws. One day you have to decide whether their behavior is good or bad for you.
Then you may also realize that you may have to oppose or even fight them for your own good. This is the hardest part of growing up and that is why the Gita is important.
Sanjay sat down on the ground, not because he was tired or exhausted, but because the understanding he had come here with was collapsing one by one.
But still he asked another question almost in a whisper, what about Karna then?
“Ahh!” said the old man. You saved the best question for last.
“Karna is the brother of your senses. He is desire. He symbolizes your craving for worldly pleasures. He is a part of you, but he feels wronged to himself and stands with your opposite vices and every Time keeps on making one or the other reason and excuse to stand with the thoughts of vices. Doesn’t your desire keep on motivating you to succumb to the vices or adopt them?” The old man asked Sanjay.

Sanjay nodded in acceptance and turned his head towards the ground and tried to sort out all the thought chains in his brain and when he raised his head, the old man had disappeared somewhere in the clouds of dust. But before leaving, he had given that direction and philosophy of life, except to imbibe it, there was no other way left in front of Sanjay…
