कृषकका सम्मान हो
अमेरिकाके तृतीय राष्ट्रपति ‘टॉमस जैफरसन’ कृषकों एवं श्रमिकोंका बहुत सम्मान करते थे। स्वयं भी सादगीपूर्ण रीतिसे जीवनयापन करते थे।
एक बार उन्हें होटलमें रुकनेकी आवश्यकता पड़ी। वे एक होटलमें गये और रुकनेके लिये एक कमरा माँगा। उनकी साधारण वेशभूषा देखकर होटलके मालिकने उन्हें किसान समझकर होटलमें ठहरानेसे मना कर दिया।
जैफरसनने भी उससे कुछ नहीं कहा और चुपचाप वहाँसे लौट गये। बादमें जब किसीने होटलके स्वामीको यह बताया कि वह साधारण-सा व्यक्ति और कोई नहीं, अपितु अमेरिकाके प्रथम नागरिक महामहिम जैफरसन थे, तो वह तुरंत एक सेवकके साथ भागा भागा उनके पास गया।
उसने क्षमा-याचनाकर उनसे लौटनेका अनुरोध किया, परंतु राष्ट्रपति जैफरसनने उसका अनुरोध अस्वीकार करते हुए कहा- ‘जिस होटलमें एक अमेरिकी कृषकके लिये स्थान नहीं है, उसमें राष्ट्रपति भला कैसे ठहर सकता है? जिस दिन तुम्हारे होटलमें कृषक सम्मानपूर्वक ठहरने लगेंगे, उस दिन तुम मेरे पास आना, तब मुझे तुम्हारे होटलमें ठहरनेमें खुशी होगी।’
farmer should be respected
America’s third President ‘Thomas Jefferson’ used to respect farmers and laborers a lot. He himself used to lead a simple life.
Once he needed to stay in a hotel. They went to a hotel and asked for a room to stay. Seeing his simple dress, the owner of the hotel refused to let him stay in the hotel considering him a farmer.
Jefferson also did not say anything to him and quietly returned from there. Later, when someone told the owner of the hotel that he was none other than the common man, but His Excellency Jefferson, the first citizen of America, he immediately ran to him with a servant.
He apologized and requested him to return, but President Jefferson rejected his request and said- ‘How can the President stay in a hotel where there is no place for an American farmer? The day when farmers start staying respectfully in your hotel, you come to me on that day, then I will be happy to stay in your hotel.’
