आतिथ्यधर्म

भारतवासियोंके समान ही अरब भी अतिथिका सम्मान करनेमें अपना गौरव मानते हैं। अतिथिका स्वागत-सत्कार वहाँ कर्तव्य समझा जाता है। अरबलोगोंकी शूरता प्रसिद्ध है और अपने शत्रुको तो वे क्षमा करना जानते ही नहीं। एक व्यक्तिने एक अरबके पुत्रको मार दिया था। वह अरब अपने पुत्रघातीके खूनका प्यासा हो रहा था और सदा उसकी खोजमें रहता था। संयोग ऐसा बना कि वही व्यक्ति किसी यात्रामें निकला। मार्गमें ही उसे लू लग गयी। ज्वरकी पीड़ासे व्याकुल किसी प्रकार गिरता पड़ता वह जो सबसे पास तम्बू मिला वहाँतक पहुँचा। तम्बूके दरवाजेतक पहुँचते पहुँचते तो वह गिर पड़ा और बेहोश हो गया।

तम्बूके मालिकने अपने दरवाजेपर गिरे बेहोश अतिथिको उठाकर भीतर लिटा दिया। वह उसकीसेवामें लग गया। रात-दिन जागकर भली प्रकार उसने बीमारकी सेवा की। रोगीकी मूर्छा दूर हुई; किंतु उसे स्वस्थ होनेमें कई दिन लगे। उस तम्बूके स्वामी अरबने उसकी सेवा-सत्कारमें कहीं कोई कमी नहीं होने दी।

रोगी जब स्वस्थ हो गया, सबल हो गया और इस योग्य हो गया कि लम्बी यात्रा कर सके, तब उस अरबने कहा—’तुम मेरा सबसे बलवान् ऊँट ले लो और जितनी शीघ्रतासे जा सको, यहाँसे दूर चले जाओ। मेरा आतिथ्य सत्कार पूरा हो गया। मैंने अपना एक कर्तव्य ठीक पूरा किया है। परंतु तुमने मेरे पुत्रकी हत्या की है, तुमसे पुत्रका बदला लेना मेरा दूसरा कर्तव्य है। मैं ठीक दो घंटे बाद अपने दूसरे कर्तव्यके पालनके लिये तुम्हारा पीछा करनेवाला हूँ।’

Like Indians, Arabs also take pride in honoring guests. It is considered a duty to welcome the guest there. The bravery of Arabs is famous and they do not know how to forgive their enemies. A man had killed the son of an Arab. That Arab was thirsting for the blood of his son-in-law and was always in search of him. The coincidence was such that the same person went on a journey. He got heat stroke on the way. Troubled by the pain of fever, somehow he kept falling, he reached the nearest tent he found. On reaching the door of the tent, he fell down and fainted.
The owner of the tent picked up the guest who had fallen unconscious at his door and made him lie inside. He got engaged in his service. Waking up day and night, he served the sick well. The unconsciousness of the patient went away; But it took several days for him to recover. The Arab, the owner of that tent, did not allow any shortage in his service and hospitality.
When the patient became healthy, became strong and was able to travel for a long time, then that Arab said – ‘You take my strongest camel and go away from here as fast as you can. My hospitality is over. I have fulfilled one of my duties properly. But you have killed my son, taking revenge from you is my second duty. I shall follow you exactly two hours later to attend to my second duty.’
