कहते हैं कि सिकन्दर अपने मित्रोंको अत्यन्त प्यार करता था। पर उसकी मातृभक्ति इतनी प्रबल थी कि वह उनसे हजारगुना माताकी प्रतिष्ठा करता था। एक बारकी बात है कि जब सिकन्दर बाहर था, तब अंटीपेटर नामक उसके एक मित्रने सिकन्दरको एक पत्र लिखा-‘ आपकी माताके हस्तक्षेपसे राजकार्यकापरिचालन बड़ा कठिन हो गया है। उनका स्वभाव आप जानते ही हैं, वे स्त्री होनेपर भी सदा राजकार्यमें हस्तक्षेप करती रहती हैं।’
सिकन्दरने इस पत्रको पढ़ा और हँसकर लिख दिया—’मेरी माताका एक बूँद आँसू तुम्हारी हजारों चिट्ठियोंको पोंछ डाल सकता है। इसका सदा ध्यान रखना।’
It is said that Alexander loved his friends very much. But his motherly devotion was so strong that he used to respect his mother thousand times more than her. Once upon a time, when Alexander was out, one of his friends named Antipater wrote a letter to Alexander – ‘The operation of the state work has become very difficult due to the interference of your mother. You know her nature, even though she is a woman, she always interferes in the affairs of the state.’
Sikandar read this letter and wrote laughingly – ‘My mother’s one drop of tears can wipe away thousands of your letters. Always take care of this.
