It is about the year 1831, a 12 year old Hindu. The boy appeared at the door of the District Judge of Chittoor. He was the son of a farmer who had been jailed for not paying the revenue on time. The farmer had taken some government land, but there was no crop that year and he had to go to jail according to the then law. Here the father was in jail only that the occasion of his grandfather’s annual Shraddha came. Now his mother started crying because her father was not at home at this time and was in jail, then how should this action happen? This was the reason for Ranganad appearing at the door of the District Judge of Chittoor.
The judge listened to the child’s whole story and said ‘I cannot let your father go without any bail and surety.’
* Always a true story, the boy said with great enthusiasm, ‘ I don’t have money to talk about surety bond. But I myself will remain in jail instead of my father.’
Judge’s heart melted. He signed the papers related to his father’s release and released him. Both father and son reached home the same night. Shradh-Kriya was completed at the right time.
This Ranganad later became the famous Ranganad Shastri who could speak and write well in fifteen languages.
