प्रायः भगवान् श्रीकृष्णकी पटरानियाँ व्रजगोपिकाओंके नामसे नाक-भौं सिकोड़ने लगतीं। इनके अहंकारको भङ्ग करनेके लिये प्रभुने एक बार एक लीला रची।नित्य निरामय भगवान् बीमारीका नाटक कर पड़ गये। नारदजी आये। वे भगवान्के मनोभावको समझ गये । उन्होंने बतलाया कि इस रोगकी औषध तो है, परउसका अनुपान प्रेमी भक्तकी चरण-रज ही हो सकती है । रुक्मिणी, सत्यभामा, सभीसे पूछा गया। पर पदरज कौन दे प्रभुको । भगवान्ने कहा- ‘एक बार व्रज जाकर देखिये तो ।’
‘नारदजी श्यामसुन्दरके पाससे आये हैं’ यह सुनते ही श्रीराधाजीके साथ सारी व्रजाङ्गनाएँ बासी मुँह ही दौड़ पड़ीं। कुशल पूछनेपर नारदजीने श्रीकृष्णकी बीमारीकी बात सुनायी। गोपियोंके तो प्राण ही सूख गये। उन्होंने तुरंत पूछा- ‘क्या वहाँ कोई वैद्य नहीं है ?’ ‘वैद्य भी हैं, दवा भी है, पर अनुपान नहीं मिलता।’
‘ऐसा क्या अनुपान है ?’
‘अनुपान बहुत दुर्लभ है; उसे कौन दे ? है तो वह सभीके पास, पर कोई उसे देना नहीं चाहता सम्पूर्ण जगत् में चक्कर लगा आया, पर व्यर्थ ।
‘सभीके पास है! क्या हमलोगोंके पास भी है ?”
‘है क्यों नहीं, पर तुम भी दे न सकोगी।’
‘प्रियतम श्रीकृष्णको न दे सकें, ऐसी हमारे पास कोई वस्तु ही नहीं रह सकती।’
‘अच्छा, तो क्या श्रीकृष्णको अपने चरणोंकी धूलि दे सकोगी ? यही है वह अनुपान, जिसके साथ दवा देनेसे उनकी बीमारी दूर होगी ! ‘
‘यह कौन-सी बड़ी कठिन बात है, मुनि महाराज !
लो, हम पैर बढ़ाये देती हैं; जितनी चाहिये, चरण-धूलि अभी ले जाओ।’
‘अरी यह क्या करती हो ?’ नारदजी घबराये। ‘क्या तुम यह नहीं जानती कि श्रीकृष्ण भगवान् हैं? भला, उन्हें खानेको अपने पैरोंकी धूल ? क्या तुम्हें नरकका भय नहीं है ?’
‘नारदजी! हमारे सुख-सम्पत्ति, भोग, मोक्ष- सब कुछ हमारे प्रियतम श्रीकृष्ण ही हैं। अनन्त नरकोंमें जाकर भी हम श्रीकृष्णको स्वस्थ कर सकें-उनको तनिक-सा भी सुख पहुँचा सकें तो हम ऐसे मनचाहे नरकका नित्य भजन करें। हमारे अघासुर (अघ+ असुर), नरकासुर (नरक+असुर) तो उन्होंने कभीके मार रखे हैं।’
नारदजी विह्वल हो गये। उन्होंने श्रीराधारानी तथा उनकी कायव्यूहरूपा गोपियोंकी परम पावन चरणरजकी पोटली बाँधी, अपनेको भी उससे अभिषिक्त किया। लेकर नाचते हुए द्वारका पधारे। भगवान्ने दवा ली। पटरानियाँ यह सब सुनकर लज्जासे गड़-सी गयीं। उनका प्रेमका अहंकार समाप्त हो गया। वे समझ गयीं कि हम उन गोपियोंके सामने सर्वथा नगण्य हैं। उन्होंने उन्हें मन-ही-मन निर्मल तथा श्रद्धापूत मनसे नमस्कार किया।

Often the concubines of Lord Shri Krishna used to shrink their nose and eyebrows at the name of Vrajgopikas. To break their ego, the Lord once created a leela. The eternally incorporeal God pretended to be sick. Naradji came. He understood the attitude of God. He told that there is a medicine for this disease, but its answer can only be the feet of a loving devotee. Rukmini, Satyabhama, everyone was asked. But who will give Padraj to the Lord? God said- ‘Go to Vraj once and see.’
On hearing this, ‘Naradji has come from Shyamsundar’, all the Vrajanganas with Shriradhaji ran with stale mouth. On asking Kushal, Naradji told about Shri Krishna’s illness. The souls of the gopis dried up. He immediately asked – ‘Is there no doctor there?’ ‘There are doctors, there are medicines, but there is no proportion.’
‘What is this ratio?’
‘The ratio is very rare; who will give it to him Everyone has it, but no one wants to give it. I went around the whole world, but in vain.
‘everyone has! Do we have it too?”
‘Why not, but you also will not be able to give.’
‘We cannot have anything that we cannot give to our beloved Shri Krishna.’
‘Ok, then can you give the dust of your feet to Shri Krishna? This is the ratio, with which giving medicine will cure their disease! ,
‘What a difficult thing this is, Muni Maharaj!
Lo, we extend our legs; Take as much dust as you want now.’
‘Hey what do you do?’ Naradji got scared. ‘Don’t you know that Shri Krishna is God? Well, the dust of your feet to eat them? Are you not afraid of hell?’
Naradji! Our happiness, wealth, enjoyment, salvation – everything is our beloved Shri Krishna only. Even after going to eternal hells, we can make Shri Krishna healthy – if we can give him even a little bit of happiness, then we should worship such a desired hell daily. Our Aghasura (Agh + Asura), Narakasura (Hell + Asura) have been killed by them sometime back.’
Naradji became restless. He tied a bundle of His Holiness Charanraj of Shriradharani and Her Kayavyuharupa gopis, also anointed himself with it. Came to Dwarka dancing with it. God took the medicine. The queens were covered with shame after hearing all this. His ego of love ended. She understood that she is very insignificant in front of those Gopis. He greeted him with a pure heart and a reverent heart.
