महात्मा इब्राहीमका नियम था कि किसी अतिथिको भोजन कराये बिना भोजन नहीं करते थे। एक दिन उनके यहाँ कोई अतिथि नहीं आया। इसलिये वे स्वयं किसी निर्धन मनुष्यको ढूंढ़ने निकले। मार्गमें उन्हें एक अत्यन्त वृद्ध तथा दुर्बल मनुष्य मिला। उसे भोजनका निमन्त्रण देकर बड़े आदरपूर्वक वे घर ले आये। हाथ पैर धुलवाकर भोजन करने बैठाया।
अतिथिने भोजन सम्मुख आते ही ग्रास उठाया। उसने न तो भोजन मिलनेके लिये ईश्वरको धन्यवाद दिया, न ईश्वरकी बन्दगी की। इब्राहीमको इस व्यवहारसे क्षोभ हुआ। उन्होंने अतिथिसे इसका कारण पूछा। अतिथिने कहा- ‘मैं तुम्हारे धर्मको माननेवाला नहीं हूँ।मैं अग्निपूजक (पारसी) हूँ। अग्निको मैंने अभिवादन कर लिया है।’
‘काफिर कहींका ! चल निकल मेरे यहाँसे!’ इब्राहीमको इतना क्रोध आया कि उन्होंने वृद्धको धक्का देकर उसी समय घरसे निकाल दिया।
‘इब्राहीम ! जिसे इतनी उम्रतक मैं प्रतिदिन खूराक देता रहा हूँ, उसे तुम एक समय भी नहीं खिला सके ! उलटे तुमने निमन्त्रण देकर, घर बुलाकर उसका तिरस्कार किया!’ इस आकाशवाणीको, जो उसी समय हुई, इब्राहीमने सुना। अपने गर्व तथा व्यवहारपर उन्हें अत्यन्त दुःख हुआ ।

It was the rule of Mahatma Ibrahim that he did not eat food without feeding any guest. One day no guest came to his place. That’s why he himself went out to find a poor man. On the way he found a very old and weak man. By inviting him for food, they brought him home with great respect. Washed his hands and feet and made him sit for food.
The guest picked up the grass as soon as he came in front of the food. He neither thanked God for getting food, nor worshiped God. Abraham was enraged by this behaviour. He asked the guest the reason for this. The guest said- ‘I am not a follower of your religion. I am a fire worshiper (Parsi). I have greeted Agni.’
Kafir somewhere! Get out of here!’ Abraham got so angry that he pushed the old man out of the house at the same time.
‘Ibrahim! To whom I have been feeding daily for so long, you could not feed him even for a single time! On the contrary, you insulted him by inviting him home!’ Abraham heard this oracle, which happened at the same time. He was deeply saddened by his pride and behavior.
