अपने अनुभवके बिना दूसरेके कष्टका ज्ञान नहीं होता

एक राजकुमारकी शिक्षा पूरी हो चुकी थी। महाराज स्वयं आये थे मन्त्रियोंके साथ गुरुगृहसे अपने कुमारको ले जाने समावर्तन संस्कार समाप्त हुआ और राजकुमारने आचार्यके चरणोंमें प्रणाम किया। आचार्य बोले ‘ठहरो मेरी छड़ी तो लाओ।’

राजकुमारने छड़ी लाकर दी। आचार्यने उस सुकुमार राजकुमारको दो छड़ी कसकर जमा दी।उसकी पीठपर छड़ीके चिह्न उभड़ आये रक्त छलछला उठा। अब आचार्यने आशीर्वाद दिया- ‘वत्स! तुम्हारा मङ्गल हो अब पिताके साथ जाओ।’

विनम्र राजकुमार कुछ नहीं बोला; किंतु राजासे रहा नहीं गया। वे बोले-‘अपराध क्षमा करें! निरपराधको ताड़ना देनेका कारण जाननेकी इच्छा है।’ आचार्यने शान्तिसे कहा – ‘ इसकी शिक्षामें इतनाअभाव रह गया था, दण्डकी तो कोई बात ही नहीं। यह इतना नम्र और सावधान है कि इसे ताड़ना देनेका अवसर ही नहीं आया । परंतु इसे शासक बनना है,दूसरोंको दण्ड देना है। उस समय इसे अनुभव होना चाहिये कि दण्डकी वेदना कैसी होती है । ‘

The education of a prince was complete. Maharaj himself had come with the ministers to take his Kumar from Gurugriha. Acharya said, ‘Wait, bring my stick.’
The prince brought the stick. Acharya gave two sticks tightly to that young prince. The marks of the stick emerged on his back, blood spilled. Now Acharya blessed – ‘ Vats! Good luck to you, now go with your father.’
The humble prince said nothing; But the king could not stay. They said – ‘Pardon the crime! I want to know the reason for chastising the innocent.’ Acharya said calmly – ‘ There was so much lack in his education, there is no question of punishment. It is so meek and careful that there was no occasion to chastise it. But he has to become a ruler, to punish others. At that time it should be experienced that how is the pain of punishment. ,
