उपासनामें तन्मयता चाहिये

बादशाह अकबर राजधानीसे बाहर निकले थे। अनेक बार एक-दो विद्वानोंको साथ लेकर बिना किसी धूम -घड़ाके और आडम्बरके प्रजाकी दशाका स्वयं निरीक्षण करने वे निकलते थे। उस दिन नमाजका समय होनेपर बादशाहने मार्गमें ही ‘जायेनमाज’ बिछवा दिया; क्योंकि मार्गको छोड़कर इधर-उधर स्वच्छ भूमि थी नहीं।बादशाह नमाज पढ़ रहे थे। साथके जो एक-दो व्यक्ति थे, वे पासके वृक्षोंकी ओर चले गये। इतनेमें एक स्त्री आयी और बादशाहके ‘जायेनमाज पर पैर रखती आगे चली गयी। बादशाहको क्रोध तो बहुत आया; किंतु वे नमाज पढ़ रहे थे, इसलिये बोले नहीं।

थोड़ी ही देरमें वह स्त्री उधरसे ही लौटी। बादशाह नमाज पूरी कर चुके थे। उन्होंने उस नारीसे पूछा’तू इधर कहाँ गयी थी ?” स्त्रीने कहा- ‘मेरे स्वामी परदेश गये हैं। समाचार मिला था कि आ रहे हैं। मैं उन्हें देखने गयी थी; किंतु समाचार ठीक नहीं निकला ।’

बादशाहने उसे डाँटा– ‘मूर्ख स्त्री ! तुझे जाते समय दीखा नहीं कि मैं नमाज पढ़ रहा हूँ। तू मेरे ‘जायेनमाज’ (नमाज पढ़ते समय नीचे बिछी चद्दर) को कुचलती चली गयी।’उस स्त्रीने उत्तर दिया- ‘जहाँपनाह! मेरा चित्त तो एक सांसारिक पुरुषमें लगा था, इसलिये मैं आपको और आपके ‘जायेनमाज’ को देख नहीं सकी; किंतु आप तो उस समय विश्वके स्वामीकी प्रार्थनामें चित्त लगाये हुए थे, आपने मुझे इधरसे जाते देख कैसे लिया ?’

बादशाहने सिर नीचा करके उस स्त्रीको क्षमा कर दिया । – सु0 सिं0

Emperor Akbar had left the capital. Many times he used to go out with one or two scholars to inspect the condition of the people himself without any fanfare and ostentation. On that day, when it was time for Namaz, the king spread ‘Jain Maaj’ on the road itself; Because there was no clean land here and there except the road. The emperor was offering Namaz. The one or two people who were with him went towards the nearby trees. Meanwhile, a woman came and stepped on the king’s ‘Jain Maj’ and went ahead. The king got very angry; But he was offering Namaz, so he did not speak.
In a short while that woman returned from there. The emperor had completed the prayer. He asked the woman, ‘Where did you go here?’
The king scolded her – ‘Stupid woman! While leaving, you did not see that I was offering Namaz. You went on trampling my ‘jayenmaaz’ (the sheet spread down while offering namaz).’ The woman replied – ‘Jahanpanah! My mind was engaged in a worldly man, that’s why I could not see you and your ‘Jaynamaj’; But at that time you were engrossed in praying to the Lord of the world, how did you see me leaving?’
The king bowed his head and forgave that woman. – Su 0 Sin 0
